This CD is one of the most flukey and important live-blues documents you can find, rating right up there with B.B. King's "Live at the Regal" and the live Piano Red material from 1955. Recorded off the P.A. system at a 1961 show at the Sage Armory in Mobile, Alabama, it captures Slim Harpo in his only live concert document. Harpo's vocals are a little pushed back in the resulting recording, but his harmonica is caught really well (check out the playing and the clarity on the slow blues "You Know I Love You"), as are the guitars of Rudolph Richard and James Johnson, Willie "Tomcat" Parker's sax, and Sammy K. Brown's drums.

Luckily, there's not much audience noise, so what we get is a close-up look at how the blues legend sounded on stage, doing classics like "I'm a King Bee", "Got Love if You Wants It", "Rainin' in My Heart" (his then-current hit), and songs like "Big Boss Man" and "Boogie Chillun", made famous by others. If the sound were slightly better, this would rate even higher, but any real fan should own this. (Note: 11 of the 20 tracks have appeared previously in the United States, spread among two Slim Harpo compilations devoted to his work). /Bruce Eder, AllMusic

English band formed in 1968 in Birmingham, England, by frontman Graham Vickery (aka Shakey Vick). Shakey Vick started playing blues harmonica in the late fifties. In 1963, he formed his first band, teaming up with Chris Youlden. In 1967, Vick gathered "Big City Blues Band" and began performing in clubs in London, including the "Marquee". During this period, he worked with many American artists including "Champion" Jack Dupree, Arthur "Big Boy" Crudup and Johnny Shines. Around this same time, he received an offer to join "Savoy Brown", but he was forced to withdraw as the band's manager Harry Simmonds was able to offer only half the sum which Vick required to maintain his wife and child. He played a few gigs with the "Savoy Brown" and continued to work with the "Big City Blues Band". In 1969 they changed the band name to "Shakey Vick" and released their first album "Little Woman You're So Sweet".

Personnel tracks 1-11: Shakey Vick (vocals, harmonica); Allen Vincent (lead and rhythm guitar); John McDade (saxophones); Robert Davis (bass); John Hunt (drums).

Personnel tracks 12-15: Shakey Vick (vocals, harmonica); Jimmy Roche (guitar); Al Vincent (guitar); Roger Sutton (bass, vocals); Tony Balch (drums).

Chicken Shack evolved from a Stourbridge, UK based band called Sounds Of Blue who were performing in the West Midlands area by early 1964. The original members included singer and pianist Christine Perfect, bass guitarist Andy Sylvester, guitarist Stan Webb, and saxophonist Chris Wood. Following a host of drummers, Dave Bidwell became their permanent one in 1966/67. While touring the UK in 1967, opening for Fleetwood Mac, Christine met John McVie, whom she later married. She eventually left and replaced Peter Green in Fleetwood Mac. She was replaced by Paul Raymond.

In 1970 Stan Webb had a falling-out with Mike Vernon which resulted in the group being dropped by their record label. There were also disagreements within the group which resulted in the departure of Dave Bidwell and Paul Raymond who both left to join the famous London blues outfit Savoy Brown. Undaunted, Stan Webb continued with a new line-up which included bass guitarist John Glassock from Jethro Tull and Paul Hancox on drums but by the mid 1970's and after various other personnel changes, Chicken Shack finally disbanded.

Originally released in 1970, this is a 2004 reissue with 13 bonus tracks including single A-sides, B-sides and 9 BBC Sessions On Air 1968-1970.

Blues on the South Side is probably the best album slide guitarist Homesick James ever laid down (originally for Prestige in 1964). The stylistic similarities to his cousin, the great Elmore James, are obvious, but Homesick deviates repeatedly from the form. Tough as nails with a bottleneck, he goes for the jugular on 'Goin' Down Swingin'', 'Johnny Mae', and 'Gotta Move', supported by pianist Lafayette Leake, guitarist Eddie Taylor, and drummer Clifton James. ~Review by Bill Dahl

Paulie is well known around Australia for his work with The Detonators. A band he formed over 12 years ago, that has covered every corner of this wide brown land.
Forming, touring, running, recording and playing in bands since his early teens, he has never let up. His drive and determination getting him through the ups and downs of life, and the ups and downs of the music biz.
He is one hard workin’ guitarist. As with all artists who stand out from pack, he has developed a unique sound and style. His sound, a driving rhythmic guitar, that twangs, yet hypnotizes, screams but seduces.
He sings from where it hurts, the heart – life, love, loss, leaving, yet providing the solution in dancin’ and drinking.
His style is an amalgam, of traditional Rock’n'Roll, Blues, Rockabilly and Country, all from way back when – churned through his musical mix master and presenting as his own style – the Country with a Blues tinge, the Blues with a Country tinge, and all with his raw energetic attitude. Hollering, barking and moaning, stompin’ his feet and yelling at the mic like there’s no tomorrow. Bangin’ on his guitar, buzzin’ around and twisting notes that sting you.

Determined that his premier solo release had to hit hard, he packed his bag and headed to the USA to team up with one of his long time musical peers, Preston Hubbard, (ex The Fabulous Thunderbirds) – a bass man of proportion and distinctions. Utilizing Preston’s drummer, engineer and favorite studio, the tracks were laid down in two days in St Louis. Back to Melbourne for mixing and mastering thus Red Eye Flight is an apt title.

Three weeks out, Prez calls and says, “Let’s do it homes”. Frantically, I spend days and nights on the phone to book a flight (seven in fact), a car, a studio, an engineer and get myself from Melbourne, Australia to St Louis MO. Wow! I’ve done it, it’s booked. My friends organise a quick fundraiser to help with my financial situation. Thirty two hours in transit and then learning to drive on the opposite side of the road, I hit a curb and blow a tyre. The next three hours after midnight were spent driving around on the rim, meeting locals who knew less about getting the wheel brace apart from the jack than I did. For $10, a guy in his boxers, singlet, cigarette, socks and thongs sorted me out. This is the USA’s most dangerous city. I needed sleep.
Red eyed and with just a change of clothes, I bang on Preston Hubbard’s door. “Where you been homes?” Cold beer and warm hospitality. It’s on, I’m here!
In the studio, Paulie, hollerin’, barkin’ and moaning, stompin’ his feet and yelling at the mic like there’s no tomorrow. Bangin’ on his guitar, buzzin’ around and twisting notes that’ll sting ya. The St Louis Two – Preston Hubbard, low slung ’52 P Bass, shorts and socks, slipping all over the Brazilian hard wood floor, “Hold it down Joe, I’m gonna get all over it.” Joe Meyer, the St Louis hot shot stick man. Shuffle? “You wait Paulie”, he pins it down and swings it right off da hinges. Two days hanging and two days recording, then home.
It’s rock’n'roll, it’s blues and it’s kinda country…but it’s all done Paulie style. Welcome aboard everybody, it’s a red eye flight – let’s go for a ride!

"They're irresistible by their name alone..." - Elmore

Think The Band's Music From Big Pink album and add a splash of hot sauce with "Willin'' by Little Feat - this group of New Orleans vagabonds nails it.

New Orleans, LA or San Francisco, CA- From the pristine waters of the Honey Island Swamp, to the vibrant streets of New Orleans, to the hazy corner of Haight-Asbury in San Francisco, this band has endured devastation, relocation, and revitalization. A group whose sound has been tagged "Bayou Americana," the Honey Island Swamp Band takes the hammer to the nail with the help of producer Luther Dickinson, and presents Demolition Day to the world April 29 on Ruf Records.

This album marks the 10-year anniversary of the Honey Island Swamp Band, which formed in San Francisco, CA via New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina displaced the founding members. With little hope of returning to their beloved city, the band channeled the blues and emotions of their circumstances to develop a soulful style and sound that critics have compared to legendary Blues-Roots-Rock Artists such as The Allman Brothers, Little Feat and The Band.

Heavy on the kind of blues-rock favored by Humble Pie, this is a live outing in front of a too-loud New York audience. Sax player Colin Cooper helps to separate these English midland lads from the heads-down no-nonsense boogie competition, although the emphasis is squarely on guitarist Peter Haycock. His solo electric slide showcase "Country Hat" is a marvel. The band's pop leanings featured so strongly on their studio recordings come through in "I Am Constant." It's a solid outing, and much meatier than subsequent offerings. /Mark Allan, AllMusic

Bette Stuy's newly released EP "This is Neo-Blues" is a stellar collection of original tunes, which has garnered notable attention in music publications, including Elmore Magazine, Songwriting Magazine and Blurt Magazine.

ELMORE MAGAZINE on BETTE STUY (4-4-16):
"Bette and her band, the Brooklynites, are quickly becoming the meaning of “Neo-Blues.” The Bedford-Stuyvesant native stands out in the music scene with her latest EP, This is Neo-Blues. Bette Stuy is a 2012 New York Blues Hall of Fame inductee who combines the sounds and styles of soul, funk, gospel, jazz and rock & roll to create an original and soulful voice you won’t be able to get out of your head.

She’s the real, raw deal just like Etta James or Koko Taylor before her. She’s tough and true to herself, and her music, which is clear in This is Neo-Blues. Bette Stuy’s talent for incredible singing and songwriting has been heard around the globe too- from the Netherlands to Canada (with the all-female group Soul Patrol), to the Caribbean Islands and even Spain. A trip to Los Angeles even drew the attention of Ray Charles, who fell for Bette’s song “Stay Free” and invited her to collaborate with him before he passed away. Bette Stuy will be touring Western Europe, including the U.K., Germany, Denmark, Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland this summer. In her spare time, she works with non-profit organizations like God’s Love We Deliver and Job Path to assist New York City’s disadvantaged."

A great passion for the music led Susan Santos to learn, in a self-taught way, how to play guitar and sing. Step by step the lefty guitarist and singer was creating her own songs and her particular style of understanding the music. After several groups, and two discs recorded, in 2009, she moved to Madrid and formed "Susan Santos Band", her more energetic project, a power trio that mixes blues and rock with funky brushstrokes.
She has had an intense year of concerts in important clubs and played several international festivals where she shared the stage with the likes of Jimmie Vaughan, Joe Bonamassa, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Joe Louis Walker, or Buddy Whittington. Last June she flew to Chicago and was invited to play concerts in clubs like Buddy Guy Legends, Rosa's Lounge, Kingston Mines, B.L.U.E.S. and jammed with Sugar Blue (harp of the Rolling Stones).
Susan's outstanding voice and appealing guitar style, along with her strong stage presence is very refreshing in the contemporary blues scene.

This is the first album by the legendary Dutch blues-rock band Livin' Blues, which followed the pattern of many British groups that were formed at about the same time. Led by their vocalist Nicko Christiansen, who co-wrote most of the bands original material (sung in English of course) with the band’s guitar player Ted Oberg (who was one of the country’s best), harmonica player John Lagrand and a constantly changing rhythm section. Alongside other Dutch blues-rock groups like Cuby And The Blizzards, Blues Dimension and a few others they formed quite a lively scene during the late 1960s and the 1970s. A must to all blues and blues-rock fans.

Blues-rock veteran Candye Kane returns with one of her stronger albums in recent memory. The basic premise of Guitar'd and Feathered is simple enough: each track pairs the randy blues diva with a different guitarist. Guests include Sue Foley, Junior Watson, Steady Rollin' Bob Margolin (who also produces), and others, but rather than bend Kane's outsized persona to fit each guitarist's style, Kane and Margolin keep her ragged-but-right vocals front and center throughout.

Highlights include the rueful Boz Scaggs-like pop-soul of "I'm My Own Worst Enemy", the Wanda Jackson-inspired rockabilly howl of "Crazy Little Thing", and a surprisingly somber acoustic blues gospel protest tune called "Jesus and Mohammed" that's entirely unlike anything Kane has ever done before and on which she recalls Judy Henske's theatrical, almost cabaret-influenced style. Many of the lyrics touch on elements of Kane's own life (based on the liner notes, it seems "I'm My Own Worst Enemy" was inspired by an online flame war) and her sexually aggressive persona, but it seems to be an older, wiser Kane on display throughout Guitar'd and Feathered, with an element of lovesickness that suits her. /Stewart Mason, AllMusic

12. I Left My Heart In Texas (2:34)
13. Cry Me A River (4:56)
14. Boogie Woogie Country Girl (5:57)

Sue Palmer is San Diego’s Queen of Boogie Woogie piano. She was previously a member of Candye Kane‘s band when they were still called the Swingin’ Armadillos and she appears on four of Kane’s albums including Diva La Grande and 1998’s Swango. Palmer also has seven albums in her own name, including last year’s Honky Tonk Rockabilly Blues by Sue Palmer with The Hayriders. In 2010 Kane and Palmer we’re re-united as Palmer was hired to be musical director of The Toughest Girl Alive, Kane’s autobiographical play that was recently part of New York City’s Fringe Festival.

There is a certain simpatico that exists when Kane and Palmer are on stage together. Such was the case back in 1999 when Kane and Palmer appeared One Night in Belgium. Kane is an enormously talented vocalist whose set, primarily of covers, includes Bessie Smith’s “Gimme a Pigfoot and a Bottle of Beer”; two songs from Billie Holiday, including “Lover Man”; Rodgers and Hart‘s “The Lady is a Tramp”; Etta James’ “Only Time Will Tell”; Julie London’s “Cry Me a River”; Doc Pomus’ “Boogie Woogie Country Girl”; and, The Mamas & Papas‘ “Dream A Little Dream.”

The remainder of the song selection is just as interesting. Throughout this intimate 44-minute set Palmer’s left hand performs miracles. For another intimate look at Kane’s vocal talents One Night in Belgium is highly recommended. /Richard Ludmerer

Artie 'Blues Boy' White - Thangs Got To Change / Hit And Run

Very few Chicago blues artists were able to pierce the R&B charts during the 1970s, when interest in the genre was rock-bottom. But smooth-voiced Artie "Blues Boy" White managed the rare feat with his 1977 single for Altee, "Leanin' Tree." Gospel was White's initial musical pursuit. He sang with a spiritual aggregation, the Harps of David, at the age of 11 prior to coming to Chicago in 1956. More church singing was in store with the Full Gospel Wonders. White claims he was lured into singing the devil's music by a well-heeled gent who drove up to an unsuspecting White in a flashy Cadillac and promised him $10,000 to record some blues songs!

White's '70s singles for PM and Gamma stiffed, but with the advent of "Leanin' Tree," he was able to command a nice asking price on the Chicago circuit. For a while, White tried his hand at running a blues club, Bootsy's Lounge. But performing and recording won out; White waxed a terrific debut LP in 1985 for Shreveport-based Ronn Records called Blues Boy. He signed with Ichiban in 1987 and waxed six fine sets in the soul-blues vein (enough to merit a best-of CD in 1991), utilizing Chicago songwriter Bob Jones (the composer of "Leanin' Tree") and labelmate Travis Haddix as chief sources of material. On 1989's Thangs Got to Change, White enjoyed the presence of Little Milton Campbell, one of his prime influences, on lead guitar. A move to the Waldoxy label resulted in 1994's Different Shades of Blue, 1997's Back Home to Clarksdale: A Tribute to Muddy Waters, and 1999's Can We Get Together. 2002 found White still going strong with a new record, Can't Get Enough, and a new label, Gold Circle. ~Bio by Bill Dahl

Without a great deal of fanfare, Artie White released a steady stream of quality contemporary releases on Ichiban, each straddling the sometimes imperceptible fence between blues and deep soul. This one's no exception -- backed by a Chicago combo called Masheen Co., White delivers originals penned by Travis Haddix, Bob Jones (the title cut), and himself in assured, smooth style. ~Review by Bill Dahl

It marks one of the most important building blocks of the electric blues.

Freddie King was an influencial American blues guitarist and singer.
Born in Dallas Texas in 1934 moving to Chicago Illinois in 1949, King is often mentioned as one of "the Three Kings" of electric blues guitar along with Albert and B.B. King.
In 1956 he cut his first record as a leader, & was later one of the first bluesmen to have a multi-racial backing band at live performances.
In 1993 by proclamation from the Texas Governor Ann Richards September 3, 1993, was declared Freddie King Day. Freddie King placed 15th in Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time & in 2012, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Vidar Busk has played blues professionally for almost two thirds of his life since he was sixteen years old. It has been a roller coaster with ups and downs during these thirty years. Musically he has always been sharp, and he has moved in and out of styles, from rockabilly and jump blues through New Orleans style music to soul, but the blues has always been there.

Vidar Busk’s first three albums - "Stompin' Our Feet With Joy", "I Came Here To Rock" and "Atomic Swing" - were in the style of jump blues, rockabilly and big band blues, but later on he ventured over to his own flavor of soul noir, Louisiana style. Lately he has been back to blues, more or less, but mixing in elements from other styles into an interesting musical gumbo and nowadays he is back with his old band, His True Believers.

(Note: Track 14 contains a hidden bonus track. The orginal track, Thirteen Women, ends at 5:07 and then there are approx 7 minutes of silence before the bonus tracks starts.)

Vidar Busk is a 27 year old blues wildman from Norway. He plays guitar and sings. Listen to the song "Ballad Of Vidar Busk" for the story of a very young Norwegian kid playing on the blues chittlin' circuit in the Southern USA. For this CD he has assembled a band of extraordinary talent. The young harmonica player, 22 year old Arne Rasmussen, is in the same league as William Clarke, Rod Piazza and Kim Wilson. He is a formidable talent who is destined to make some big waves in the harp world. The drummer is 24 year old Martin Winstad. He is inventive and daring, yet remains solidly in the pocket. Rune Endal on bass is a well known figure on the Norwegian music scene. He has played in some very popular bands, and his swingin', deceptively simple playing cuts a groove as wide as the Mississippi River.

On top of this soulful stew rides Vidar on his guitar. He is a tone freak that uses an array of offbrand and vintage hollow bodies and planks to achieve his tasty licks. His playing is extremely funky but also richly traditional. He is inventive, powerful, stunning and completely in control. In short, he is a master of the blues language. And by the way, this guy can sing! /From the liner notes written by Rock Bottom

Roots based Americana Blues Rock. The strong lyrical storytelling is reminiscent of folk songs from the 60's with guitar driven blues rock reminiscent of Led  Zeppelin or The Black Crowes.
In a few short years this teen power trio has built a loyal following and received critical acclaim. Often compared to Humble pie, Black Crowes and the Black Keys, the Chase Walker Band caught the eye of renowned rock photographer Robert M. Knight who shot the album cover. Front man Chase Walker appeared on NBC’s The Voice. He was highlighted in Guitar World Magazine, Guitar Player Magazine and UltimateGuitar.com. American Blues Scene Magazine named Walker as one of “The TOP 10 musicians under 18 you need to know.” It seems the buzz is building about the Chase Walker Band.

Taken from two nights of performances at a club in Zugabe, Vienna, this is a typical set from Chicago's favorite down-home combo. John Primer handles the vocals on the opener, "Big Fat Woman," and Bonnie Lee comes up to belt out her signature tune, "I'm Good," but by and large it's Magic Slim's show -- a set full of greasy small-club blues played by a master. Decent sound quality for this type of affair, too. - Allmusic.

Mark Sallings is the harmonica/sax player/vocalist that fronts the Famous Unknowns, longtime stalwarts of the Memphis scene. Sallings is known as one of the hot contemporary harp players around today. He's a master on the high end of the harp, an area where many fear to tread. And he uses the tongue blocking technique effortlessly and, I think, more effectively than any of his peers. However, what really separates him from many other harp player/front men on the circuit today is songwriting. Time will tell if they're classics, but songs like "Up Close And Personal" have got a chance. In fact, that song's been around a while. I've got an autographed copy floating around somewhere from an earlier release. "Everybody Looks Blue To Me" is darn nice work, as well. The title track is also outstanding, one I'd love to hear live again. "Trash Talkin' " is a nice number with a cool rhythm and cool message, too. Tony Spinner is a nice foil on guitar to the harp, and turns in some sharp solos. He's back for his second recording with the band. I recommend you buy this disc and put it on at your next party and count the dancers. Check out the air harp players, too. Catch 'em live, if you can, and feel the power.

Their shows continue to massively attract blues audiences regardless of age and gender who consider them as one of the best Blues Bands in Europe. Growing up in the Maitland-Hunter region of New South Wales, Pat spent his early years listening to and being influenced by traditional roots music of yesteryear. At age sixteen Pat became a member of the Hunter’s very own Johnny Greens Blues Cowboys as well as the Torpedoes, and began performing at local pubs and hotels. Pat had a taste of live performance and decided to venture out and form his own band.

Many years later and with five records produced on the Presstone Label, including compilations with leading acts across Australia, and one album with Hollywood’s Wild Records, he has now signed with a brand new Australian owned Devil Wind Records and will be releasing his brand new EP ‘More Thrills Than Ever’ mid 2016.

Pat Capocci’s ‘all or nothing’ mentality has gained him respect on both a national and international level. Undoubtedly being one of Australia’s hardest working bands, it is no wonder why all ages and subcultures across the world admire the energy and passion fuelled music that is Pat Capocci.

With appearances at Viva Las Vegas, Rockabilly Rave, The Hot Rod Hayride, Screaming Festival and the Waldorf Weekender, the international rockin’ scene is no stranger to the combo. Audiences all across Europe admire Pat’s integrity and passion especially after he performed 15 shows across 8 different countries for his European tour of 2014. He then returned 3 times in 2015, and has been asked to return for the 12th time in his career to tour in 2016. Pat has also played alongside some of the finest and most respected international artists including Deke Dickerson, Big Sandy, Imelda May and Justin Townes Earle plus many more.

Pat’s unique style and charisma combined with his natural song writing ability has seen the combo transcend the typical novelty of the genre. Pat’s writing style blends a unique feel of western swing, jazz, country and blues, and in the same way that all iconic artists have, Pat has used the genre as a launching pad, deepening and broadening the integrity and timelessness of the music.

Pat’s energetic fusion of guitar greats such as Charlie Christian, Johnny Guitar Watson, Merle Travis, Django Reinhardt and Grady Martin, paired with great passion and determination, show exactly why Pat is regarded as one of Australia’s best modern Practitioners of Rockabilly music.

Nick grew up on the south side of Chicago hanging out in the mid-50's with a coterie of misfit white kids - Elvin Bishop,biopic1 Paul Butterfield, Michael Bloomfield - who went on to form that protean powerhouse of watershed white blues, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band. Learning their lessons first-hand from the south side greats - Muddy Waters, Buddy Guy, Howlin' Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Otis Rush - Gravenites & Co. burst open the seams of the scene with a feverish intensity and undeniable authenticity, redefining the blues with as much impact as the introduction of electric instrumentation had 15 years earlier. From the late 50's through the mid 60's, Gravenites gravitated between Chicago and San Francisco, establishing himself in the Bay Area in 1965.

In addition to authoring the classic "Born In Chicago" and the groundbreaking "East West" for Butterfield, Gravenites scribed hits for Janis Joplin and has his songs recorded by Big Brother and the Holding Company, Michael Bloomfield, the Electric Flag (of which Gravenites was a founding member), Pure Prairie League, Tracy Nelson, Roy Buchanan, Jimmy Witherspoon as well as blues giants Howlin' Wolf, Otis Rush, and James Cotton. He has a couple of solo albums and has scored and played on the soundtracks for "The Trip", "Medium Cool", and "Steelyard Blues". He has appeared on some 40 albums as singer, songwriter, guitarist, and producer.

Other Bands: He formed the short lived Blue Gravy and joined Big Brother And The Holding Company early in 1969 staying until early 1972. He was involved with the Taj Mahal/Mike Bloomfield live album, and again in 1973 with "Steelyard Blues". He also formed the Nick Gravenites Band which became Nick Gravenites Blues in 1978 and in the summer of ‘78 he joined Huey Lewis' Monday Nite Live sessions but by the end of the year that too had disbanded.

Nick also worked a lot with John Cipollina, a connection that started with Nick producing the first Quicksilver Messengerbiopic2 Service albums. Later they built the Nick Gravenites-John Cipollina Band which toured a lot in Europe and their record label Line being based in Germany. One of the band's drummers was former Clover drummer Marcus David - who later recorded his solo album 'Greatest Hits' on Line Records in 1980. Nick Gravenites himself recorded 'Bluestar' which was also released on Line in 1980 as a solo album but it already had John Cipollina on guitar. Harmonica player on this blues album was Huey Lewis - at that time being something of a session cat who, after Clover's demise, played harp also on albums by Phil Lynott, Nick Lowe, Dave Edmunds and City Boy.

The next album "Monkey Medicine" was recorded in Germany after Nick and John finished their European tour inbiopic3 Germany. Under very primitive conditions but with a lot of heart they recorded this album in Hamburg accompanied by Marcus David on drums and Al Staehely on bass/vocals. In late 1984 Gravenites was again a member of one of John Cipollina's many projects - Thunder and Lightning - in San Francisco. During the last few years Gravenites regularly played the psychedelic blues in a small club called the Bodega Bay Grange, Marin County - joined by Doug Kilmer (bass), Mark Adams (harp) and Roy Blumenfeld (drums). The German Taxim label released one of these concerts (rec. Jan. 1994) on CD in 1996. 1999 saw the release of yet another Gravenites' solo album on which Huey Lewis plays harmonica again.

According to author and pop music critic Joel Selvin, Nick Gravenites is "the original San Francisco connection for the Chicago crowd." Gravenites is credited as a "musical handyman" helping such San Francisco bands as Quicksilver Messenger Service and Janis Joplin's first solo group. Nick wrote Janis's song "Buried Alive In The Blues", but she died the night before her scheduled time in the studio and the song appeared as an instrumental on her album. He was also a songwriter for the Paul Butterfield Blues Band, which consisted of Elvin Bishop, Paul Butterfield, and Michael Bloomfield, then formed The Electric Flag with Butterfield guitarist Mike Bloomfield. Nick is also responsible for writing the score for The Trip.
Nick still performs live in northern California; his regular shows include a bar in Occidental and several venues in downtown San Francisco. Nick also worked extensively with John Cipollina after producing the first Quicksilver Messenger Service album. Nick and John formed the Nick Gravenites–John Cipollina Band which toured a lot in Europe. Nick was inducted to the Blues Hall Of Fame in 2003 for his song "Born In Chicago".

Bobby G and I had a chance to work some blues gigs in Toledo, OH. We became friends and I asked him if he had any albums out and he said "No". We changed that and proceeded to produce this album during the last 18 months. Bobby purchased a hand held recorder to record his ideas and I (Mike Lorenz) wrote melodies and arranged the rhythm tracks. Eric Brasier also added five songs that show his lyric writing skills. Eric also played guitar on several of his tunes. A special thanks to Greg Moore and Pat McDonagh for their guitar work and contribution to the album. Enjoy!

Doktu Rhute Muuzic was born Roy Hytower in Coffeeville, AL.

Doktu’s father was an herb doctor, with people coming to him from all over to be healed from various ailments.

Doktu’s new middle name, “Rhute” is a tribute to his father, and a play on both his name, Reuben Hytower, and his profession as a root doctor.

Doktu was inspired to play guitar by his father, a guitar player himself.

Doktu liked the guitar so much he traded a new bicycle for one. He escaped punishment when an older brother convinced their father that a young Roy must really have a desire to play if he was willing to risk his father’s disapproval.

Doktu had many influences in his life from giants in the blues and R&B world, and became the opening acts for many of them. Since he was a teenager at the time, many established acts were wary of raw and unproven talent. Doktu, through his older brothers, and family friendships with some of those acts’ booking agents, was given several important opportunities. His style and play would later gain their confidence, and he became well-known and successful as an opening act.

In the 1960’s, after a stint in the Army as a machine gunner, Doktu settled in Chicago and came back to music, eventually replacing rhythm guitarist Mighty Joe Young when Young left Otis Rush’s band.

Since then, Doktu Rhute Muuzic has not only performed musically, but has acted in plays with the Black Ensemble Theater, appeared in television and film, and has toured throughout North America and Europe.

Doktu took part in program sponsored by Pepsi promoting blues to elementary school children named “Blues in the Schools.”

When Doktu is not on tour, he performs locally, presents seminars with the Willie Dixon Blues Heaven Foundation, and teaches guitar and harmonica.

Doktu Rhute Muuzic resides in the South Shore neighborhood in Chicago.

Peter Olof Ekberg , also known as Peter O Ekberg and under the pseudonym NP Lonesome, born April 9, 1953 in Åryd in Hemmesjö with Tegnaby parish, is a Swedish cultural worker, songwriter, guitarist, music producer, TV producer and principal.

After playing with various bands in SmÃ¥land in the mid-1960s, Ekberg became the bass player and songwriter in Thorleifs. In the mid-1970s, as a music teacher in Ljungby, he came into contact with Sölve Rydell. They made three albums together, where Rydell was responsible for lyrics and Ekberg for music. The first album, Peter O Ekberg & Attila – So Awesome!! , was released in 1975 on Polydor, followed by two LPs for Tor Grammofon, Peter O. Ekberg and SÃ¥ länge vi har oss. Ekberg subsequently made two further records as a solo artist on EMI , one of which, Open for business , with The Boogie Kings and the latter with his own band Peter O Ekberg's System . Ekberg also played with other artists such as Py Bäckman, Dan Hylander's Raj Montana Band (tours and their first LP, Raj Montana Band), Björn Afzelius (För Kung och Fosterland), Tommy Körberg, Mats Ronander, Mikael Rickfors, Kim Wilson from Fabulous Thunderbirds and Louise Hoffsten. In 1979, the Christmas album Glitter, mulled wine and rock n' roll was made where Ekberg both participated and produced, among others Björn Skifs.

As a music producer, Ekberg succeeded Anders Burman in 1982 and had to coordinate the Swedish side of WEA - Metronome and was 1983–1986 producer and recording manager there and produced records with a large number of Swedish artists. So, for example, Björnson, KÃ¥nka pÃ¥ ett tÃ¥g, and Suzzie Orkester.

Peter O Ekberg has also produced parts of the album Piano in the Dark with Brenda Russell as well as Lisa Nilsson's debut album, Indestructable.

By the late 1980s, Ekberg was once again living in Austin, Texas, where he produced and played with various local artists. In 2008, Ekberg began a brief collaboration with the singer and musician Ola Bjurman. From this came the record Fogerty Files (2008), which is an interpretation of and tribute to John Fogerty's songwriting. The record is published by Ekberg's company POE Productions AB. In 2016, Ekberg released a new album of his own after almost 30 years, now under the pseudonym NP Lonesome aka Peter O Ekberg. The album The Blue Accordingly has 13 own songs. In 2017 NP Lonesome released the album Long Play and in 2019 the albums Tangorabatt and Gubbjävel under the name Peter O Ekberg.

With the exception of his comeback album for Alligator, Strike like Lightning, nothing Mack has done since leaving Fraternity Records has come close to the wham-fisted brilliance of those seminal sides. This LP isn't bad at all, though -- besides passable remakes of "Memphis" and "Why," Mack attacks Frankie Ford's "Roberta," Ted Taylor's "Stay Away from My Baby," and Little Willie John's "Let Them Talk" with a slightly rockier edge than his previous stuff. R&B vet Maxwell Davis did the horn charts. ~Review by Bill Dahl

Fats is backed up by the Bernie Pearl Blues Band on this mostly electric effort, though hints of Fats' country origins stick out. On the fast-tempo numbers, Fats' driving, in-your-face energy comes out full bore, and on these songs the wit and humor of his lyrics stand out best. Pearl's attempt at lead vocals on Lightnin' Hopkins' "Automobile Blues" would have been better left off to allow Fats to expand his showman capabilties. ~Review by Char Ham
