Czech harmonica virtuoso and singer Charlie Slavik is known to the Czech and Slovak audience mainly as a member of the band of Prague-based American singer Juwana Jenkins, or from the time when he played with Slovak bluesman Luboš Beno. Together with him, in 2012, he became the first and so far only Czech to participate in the prestigious International Blues Challenge in Memphis, where they made it to the semi-finals. In the meantime, he performed with his Charlie Slavik Revue, and recently he visited the United States. The result of his visit is a new CD. It is called ‘A Nice Reminder’ and was recorded at the famous Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville, Tennessee.

Featuring 12 original songs sung in English and a great sound, the new release was recorded under the supervision of producer Steve Walsh, who is also listed in the booklet as co-writer of most of the songs and guitarist. Drummer Wes Little and bassist Brian Allen are included as additional band members. If you assume that recordings from Nashville, a legendary bastion of country music, would sound downright country, you’d be wrong. As a musician with a very wide range of genres, Charlie Slavik oscillates between his favorite rockabilly, swinging 50s pop, rock and jump blues. /Bluestown Music
