From Western Australia, Matty T Wall, extraordinary blues guitarist, singer, songwriter and bandleader announces his new live album Live Down Underground, set to release June 3rd. The seven-time Independent Blues Award nominee and Western Australian Music Award-winner, has three back-to-back number one Australian blues albums, and a new album you don’t want to miss. His last record Transpacific Blues Vol.1 featured some of the finest guitarists on the international music scene, including Eric Gales, Walter Trout, Kirk Fletcher, Dave Hole and Kid Ramos.

With his genre-busting musical styles, the ever-energetic and powerful Matty T Wall distills a diversity of genres into his own blues-influenced soul, jazz, and rock. From sweet blues to gritty, stomping, blues rocking beats, Wall returns to the stage more electric than ever. Wall is a wild man of the blues, his six-string chops jet-fueled with ferocity and grit. “Broken Heart Tattoo” is merely a taste of what you’ll find on Live Down Underground.

“Broken Heart Tattoo” is dynamic, bold, and captivating. Wall contrasts heavy, riff-based sections with lower-toned, spoken word storytelling to bring us this tale of barroom romance and violent manipulation. The song is an updated talking blues about a situation that was bad from the start and bound to get worse and Wall delivers it masterfully. If you’re looking for modern, cliche-free blues/rock, you just found it.

Matty T Wall’s power trio is made up of seasoned pros, including Leigh Miller on bass and Ric Whittle on drums. Since the release of Trans Pacific Blues Vol. 1, Sidewinder and Blue Skies, Wall is gaining ground in his career and becoming recognized as the fiery artist he is. With an inventive flair for infusing blues, rock, jazz, and some funky rhythms into his music, Wall’s love of the blues and rock are infused with intensity and verve, with the support of his killer rhythm section.

Hitting the live circuit, Wall is a serious contender in the blues/rock scene.

The career of Australian blues-barnstormer, Matty T Wall, has been on a rising path since his debut album, 2016’s Blue Skies, was nominated as Best Blues Album (International) at the 15th Annual Independent Music Awards. The follow-up, 2018’s Sidewinder subsequently reached the upper echelons of blues airplay charts in Australia, the US and Europe, opening doors all around for this firebrand singer/songwriter/guitarist.

Wall’s newest step forward may be a tad unexpected, but it’s certainly welcome. A love of blues traditions combined with a thirst for new and different approaches to the genre has resulted in a collaborative album of classic blues songs with creative twists.

So aptly titled Transpacific Blues Vol. 1, the album finds Wall reaching across the oceans to trade licks with some of the greatest blues players right now, such as the likes of Eric Gales, Walter Trout, Kirk Fletcher, Kid Ramos, and fellow West Australian, Dave Hole.

The album features three standards purely showcasing Wall and his band, namely Stormy Monday, Tore Down and Crossroads.

In any and all cases, it sounds like everyone’s having a whole lot of fun.

With the experience complete and ready for release one can’t help but note that Vol 1. would suggest more of these to come. It’s entirely possible, but Wall continues to write his own new music and there is no doubt some future surprises in store. Meanwhile, Transpacific Blues Vol. 1 is ready and waiting for those who want to take something from its bluesy goodness.

The blues is music that traveled on trains and steamboats from the Mississippi Delta to the neon streets of Memphis, Chicago and St. Louis. For MattyTWall – a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and bandleader – it is the supernatural sound that crossed the ocean to Perth, Australia to ignite his imagination and give power to his art. A young man with an old soul: Matty is connected to music with a wealth of history as he distills a diversity of genres into his own blues-influenced soul, jazz and rock signature.

His points of references are wide; he has studied and played a spectrum of styles including flamenco, swing jazz and funk, and he attests to a love for “heavier things” in his youth, bands like Metallica and Sepultura among them. But he remembers how the musicians he admired would honor the blues masters who came before them. And following the trail of Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughan backwards, he was hooked. “I discovered Robert Johnson and he made the hair on the back of my neck stand up,” he remembers. “I got into the blues and have never gotten out of it.”

With plans to record in Australia and the U.S., and to hit the road touring, MattyTWall is headed toward the proverbial destination of the bluesmen: the crossroads. “I am like an elastic band pulled really tight, ready to go,” he says. “That’s how I feel about my music.”
