In the fall of 1991 guitarist Junior Lee Klegseth placed ads for musicians in Los Angeles area magazines. His goal was to form a high energy, "uptown" blues band with an emphasis on musicianship and diversity, a band that would become known as The RedHot Blues. Klegseth, a fiery, emotionally charged guitar player wanted players matching in intensity. Slowly he found the players he could believe in. Vocalist Dave Shafran, after insisting on an audition despite being told the band had found a vocalist, would become the last member to join The RedHot Blues and would turn out to be the one that would continue to partner with Klegseth and create a show stopping duo. With supporting cast Shafran and Klegseth started their band down the classic blues path, playing endless one-nighters and eventually taking to the road. During that time they have put out three releases on BlueSong Records, each clearly identifying a more distinctive voice and sound. Their third release, R! elentless Blues, marked the introduction of The Shafran-Klegseth Band (SKB), although the band continues to perform as The RedHot Blues upon demand as well. From their first gig, January 1, 1992, the band made a name from intense shows and great material. The word spread and landed the band gigs with artists like The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Buckwheat Zydeco, Guitar Shorty, Steve Morse, and Les Dudek. The band became staples on the western blues circuit, playing premiere blues venues like The House of Blues, B.B. King's Blues Club, The Zephyr Club, The Coach House and The Blue Note, and became popular on the festival circuit including The Omaha Blues Festival, San Diego Street Scene, and headlining performances at the Las Vegas Blues Festival. 1998 found the band in Japan on tour as well. The band has received praise from the press as well. A recent review of the band's performance at The House of Blues said, "There is a tangible intensity in the performance style of both Sha! fran and Klegseth. Each man is able to say volumes with the! ir own particular instrument." (Music Connection Magazine). "This is a tight band that has obviously spent some time on the roadThis is one groove from beginning to end." (Southland Blues Magazine). The band has added one additional statistic to their resume: they have been asked back to over 90% of all clubs they have played! BAND MEMBERS: Dave Shafran, Junior Lee Klegseth, FAB, Dave Sprock
