Born in Melbourne Australia Andy’s inspiration begun at the age of 16 with many of the 60’s pioneers such as Jimi Hendrix & Neil Young. It was the ability to express through improvisation that began a lifelong love of music. After immersing himself in the rock band culture of the 80 & 90’s as a rock guitarist it was in 2010 that he discovered his one true calling. Two “Sliding Door” moments. An accidental conversation with legendary jingle songwriter Paul Meaney and his words of wisdom “instead of re-arranging songs already written, why not write your own” Then some career defining advise from Australian Blues legend Geoff Achison “if you really want to play the blues just do it”. From rock covers to contemporary blues songwriter, the transformation began. Drawing on a myriad of life experiences Andy began building a compilation of song ideas and grooves that has developed into a song-writing funnel that continues to this day.

“ON THIS ROAD” (EP) September 2017 is Andy’s latest release signifying the beginning of a new musical chapter with a primary focus on injecting energy and groove into the writing and recording process. “On This Road” captures a myriad of emotions about modern day living blues and some lighter personal touches with songs about mates. In addition to song-writing and recording Andy also performs regularly with his 4-piece band Andy Layfield & The Sound and as a solo performer at venues and festivals throughout Australia. Now well known as a talented songwriter, there is no sign of slowing down with Andy looking to release another CD in 2018.

At the age of 16 Andy first picked up a guitar. Inspired by many of the 60's pioneers such as Jimi Hendrix and Neil Young, it was the ability to express through improvisation that began a lifelong love of music.

After spending years playing in rock bands in the 80's Andy had a break from the music industry to concentrate on raising a young family. Throughout these years a guitar was always in reach and time spent noodling on the couch at home help forged a playing style that is a big part of the way he plays today.

In 2007 some good friends encouraged him to start strumming more seriously again, and the deadline of a first gig began a dedication to music that still continues today. From rock to blues, a transformation that is still evolving with Andy's music style now best described as Blues/Rock with a touch of Jazz and Funk. With solo performances and roles in various bands including Acoustic Addiction and Jamtrain, a skill set was being developed as guitarist, singer, harmonica and song writer.

Andy's burning passion for blues music has now forged a pathway towards writing and recording original albums. Drawing on a myriad of life experiences Andy's unique style of blues rhythm's in combination with soulful vocals and harmonica takes the music on a journey beyond traditional 12 bar blues formats. No two songs sound the same, with unexpected musical surprises around every corner.

Releasing his first studio album in June 2014 "CHANGE MY HAT", Andy tested convention by presenting this body of blues music with "Cello" and it really worked!! This CD went into achieve #9 in the August 2014 Australian Blues and Roots Charts, along with airplay from over 30 Australian radio stations and overseas in the UK, South Africa, USA & Croatia.

New CD "MAD TIME" now sequels, just released 30th July 2015 features a mixture of acoustic and electric style blues forged with a myriad of different grooves. In addition to the traditional guitar, harmonica and hammond there's a touch of cello, trombone & toy piano on select tracks. This CD is all about "Blues & Groove with Vibe".

In addition to his recorded works Andy and his 4 piece band "The Andy Layfield Sound" do regular shows in Melbourne Metro and country victoria along with music festivals Australia wide. For more intimate venues Andy plays in an acoustic duo format with Greg Hayward on Cajon.

Whilst "Change My Hat" is an album that is blues based, the music goes beyond this with blends of rock, jazz and funk. The use of cello in some tracks creates an ambience and vibe that really works.
