João Martins (Sax), Rui Pedro Silva (Trumpet) and João Andresen (Harp), join forces with Budda Guedes, Nico Guedes and Carl Minnemann, for special shows, bringing the band more towards New Orleans and the Stax and Chess Records classic sound.

But the band keeps its identity, just a lot more sound mass, and arrangements, give the show a deluxe energy, with all the power Budda Power Blues is known for. The Jam now extends to six musicians, so a bigger party on stage is the result.

The Go Graal Blues Band was a Portuguese blues rock group formed in 1975 that, contrary to what was usual at the time, sang only in English.
The Go Graal Blues Band makes its appearance in 1975, integrating João Allain (guitar), Artur Paes (bass), Zito (drums), Tony Sousa (guitar) and José Carlos Cordeiro (vocals) and defined themselves as a group that dedicated himself to playing and singing the blues. After several experiences, the formation stabilizes with Paulo Gonzo (vocals and harmonica), João Allain (lead guitar), Raúl Barrigas dos Anjos (drums), Augusto Mayer (harmonic), António Ferro (bass), João Esteves (guitar) and José Carlos Lamb (lead voice).
In 1979, they signed a contract with Imavox and released, later that year, Go Graal Blues Band, their first LP, in which the group totally assumed a posture dedicated to electric blues, notorious in themes such as “Baby, I Wanna…”, “The Fault Is Her Own” and “The Last One”. That year Tó Andrade joins as bassist. On the 22nd of September, at the invitation of José Nuno Martins, they perform the first concert with laser beams at the Instituto Superior de Agronomia. This concert was broadcast live by RTP 1 and is in the RTP archives.
In 1980 they released the single “They Send Me Away”, presenting a more rock sound, very close to the style of Dr. Feelgood. The presenter of the program Rock In Stock, Luís Filipe Barros, produces the single “Lay Down”, which reached the top of the Top in Rock In Stock.
In 1982, the band's second LP, "White Traffic", was released. Of the original line-up, only Paulo Gonzo and João Allain remain. The bass is in charge of Fernando Delaere and the drums by Hippo Birdie. This LP includes themes like “N'Roll”, “Lonely” and “Guetto Drunk”. The group's musical evolution is notorious and success is measured not so much by record sales, but by the number of shows.
Internal disagreements over the authorship of the themes lead to the departure of Delaere and Birdie who go to Roxigénio and new members are recruited. Mário Pereira (Márito) joins the drums and Henrique Leite is in charge of the bass. The Mini-LP “Blackmail” is released, where you can listen to blues/rock themes such as “Champagne All Night”, “Love Fashion” and “Midnight Killer”.
In 1984, the Máxi-Single Dirty Brown City was released with themes such as “Dirty Brown City”, “Fast Flirt” and “Wild Beat Blues”. That year, Tó Andrade returned to bass, at the invitation of João Allain.
In 1987, the band's last album was released, “So Down Train”, with a more mature sound but far from the success of other eras. The latest album by Go Graal brings us themes like “They Don't Give A Damn”, “A Little Bit” or “City Lights”.
After the release of this LP, Paulo Gonzo left the band to launch a solo career. He is replaced by João Melo, and the band consists of João Melo, João Allain, Tó Andrade, Leonel Cardoso (sax), Fernando Costa (keys) and Chico Cardoso (drums). After about six months, Mário Pereira returns to the drums and the 1st singer José Carlos Cordeiro.
Due to the commercial failure of the LP “So Down Train”, which was reflected in the decrease in the number of shows, the group took the decision to dissolve, leading, in 1989, to the extinction of one of the most outstanding blues/rock groups. in Portugal.
They had a career full of shows, including the first part of the show by The Shirts in Lagos, the 1st part of Jan Akkerman at the Dramatic de Cascais, the 1st part of the Blues Band at the Coliseu and a memorable concert at the Lisbon Coliseum as headliner.
Unfortunately, so far, none of the Go Graal Blues Band albums have been reissued on CD.

"The Blues Experience" is the result of an unusual partnership between, what is considered the best national blues band, Budda Power Blues and the jazz diva, Maria João.

We're talking about a Blues record, but anyone who might think it's an exercise in style must be disappointed. It's about 21st century Blues, widely influenced by all the sounds that are part of the daily life of Maria João, Budda Guedes, Nico Guedes, the players on this record.

Composed of 10 songs that deal with very personal and often autobiographical subjects, "The Blues Experience" is a record that goes through several languages ??of the blues, the result of the challenge launched by Budda Guedes to Maria João. This album is released under the seal of Mobydick Records .

Despite being largely influenced by the roots of Blues, the sound of Budda Power Blues is not limited to the classics, considering Budda Guedes as a citizen of the new millennium and therefore obliging himself to look for new directions within the genre, as all the others have done. Bluesman that preceded him.

Kiko & The Blues Refugees is a supergroup made up of experienced and renowned musicians from the national scene: the musician, composer and producer Kiko Pereira, Portuguese-American who the critic José Duarte chose as the best male voice in jazz in Portugal, joins a team of excellence like António Mão de Ferro (guitars), Jorge Filipe Santos (keyboards), Carl Minnemann (bass) and João Cunha (drums).

Kiko & The Blues Refugees make the Blues a starting point for crossing with different styles: the new old school blues. The single “Giver” is the first sample of the album: composed and recorded shortly before the start of the pandemic, this theme proved to be something premonitory and representative of a new global “normality”. The video by Kiko Pereira and Anabela Trindade, has the collaboration of some famous “hands”: since Rui Reininho, Selma Uamusse, Helder Reis, Peter Eldridge, Fernando Martins, among many others.

On February 13, Kiko & The Blues Refugees will release their debut album “Threadbare”: produced by Mário Barreiros and Kiko Pereira, it is a sound film that exposes the currentness of a universal genre and the countless roads through which it can take us . Kiko Pereira's 11 original themes take us at the starting point, in the deep south of the United States, and take us through the different roads where the blues spread, between the Mississippi Delta and Chicago, passing through Detroit and crossing with other genres such as rock-roll, rhythm and blues, soul or jazz.

The album features the participation of some special guests such as Marta Ren, BJ Cole (with previous works with musicians such as Elton John, Sting, Beck, Bjork or Depeche Mode), Mila Dores, João Andresen and Rafaela Alves.

'I Am Leaving' is the latest EP by Vítor Bacalhau, a record where the southern-Portuguese blues/rock artist goes deeper than ever into his bluesier and rootsier influences.

The first single of the same name shows a different side of the artist's musical identity, in a passionate and emotional acoustic performance. “I Am Leaving is a metaphor for those times when we need to address certain issues and change some things in our lives”, confesses the artist about the song that names the new EP. “It's an anthem to personal change and growth.”

For the first time, after three albums and five years of an ever-evolving career, Vitor and his band recorded the album's basic tracks in the South of Portugal, Algarve, at Paraíso 530 studios, in a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere. Some of the overdubs of the album were then done by Vítor and Budda Guedes at the Mobydick Records studios in Braga, where the performances of two very special guests were also recorded: João Andresen, an emerging talent of blues harmonica in Portugal, who’s contribution really added to the Blues content of the record, and Rita Sampaio, the singer of the band Grandfather's House, who sang some incredibly soulful backing vocals throughout the album.

Playing the guitar took a great deal of time and commitment, but he was a man on a mission. And when at one point the spot behind the mic was available he thought, “why not give it a try”, and as it turned out, the boy could sing! After playing the cover scene for a couple of years he started gaining attention from the industry, got discovered and signed by a label, consequently leading to the release of his first record ”Respect My Aim”.

Budda Power Blues - Fifteen Long Years

Size: 25,3 MB
Time: 10:45
File: MP3 @ 320K/s
Released: 2019
Styles: Blues Rock
Art: Front

01. Fifteen Long Years (2:29)
02. Have Mercy (2:56)
03. Take My Soul (2:55)
04. Blues Is A Feeling (2:24)

Budda Power Blues have a new record, and it’s called “Fifteen Long Years”. It’s a celebration record, and the first in Vinil format. Since it marks the band’s 15th birthday, it’s a collectors edition, limited and numbered, with a digital download card, so you can listen to the music anywhere.

BUDDA POWER BLUES were born in 2004 with the goal of being a laboratory band, where the three musicians could adventure into the improvisation world without any commercial compromises.

But soon the band took off and got bigger than any of its members ever imagined. They recorded the first record in 2005, in Ferro, Covilha, naming it “Wanted”. It includes 3 of Budda’s own creations and several covers. This record sold out pretty soon, and in 2008 they release their 2nd record“Busted”, at Gaia Blues Festival, where they performed alongside Shemekia Copeland and Sherman Robertson.

This 2nd album features 3 of Budda’s original songs and 10 other very personal twisted versions of some classics. At this time the band starts to get known for their twisted covers and their power improvisation and long jams, being able to be simultaneously musical and entertaining.

The band tours all Portuguese festivals and in 2010 and release their 3rd record, honoring the 40th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys record. They named it “Kind of Gypsys” because, as usual, the band turned Hendrix’s record upside down and completely changed the arrangements. In order to keep the spirit of the original record, Budda and his band mates went to studio with no previous rehearsals, and for two days they worked and recorded live on tape the entire album, jamming and creating on the flow of the moment. It was the first record they made live and with no overdubs, and it captures the real spirit of this power Trio, and of the original Band of Gypsys. The mixing approach was also influenced by that period of late 60’s and early 70’s, as the drums are on the left, the guitar is on the right and the vocal and bass are at the center. The record was remixed and remastered in 2011, with a more conventional mix, after the first edition sold out.

Born in Cabinda (Angola, at the time a portuguese colony) on Aug. 7, 1957, Nuno Mindelis became a guitar enthusiast at the very young age of 5. By the age of 9 he began building and playing self-made guitars.

A primary influence at that time was Otis Redding and his great rhythm section, Booker T. & The MG’s, made up of Booker T., Steve Cropper, Donald “Duck” Dunn, and Al Jackson. Nuno continues to enjoy the work of these musicians to this day.

Because of a civil war, which made Nuno lose everything he had, he was forced to leave his country as an exiled at the age of seventeen. He joined an older cousin in Canada.

He remained there for about a year, jamming where possible and increasing his guitar knowledge. In 1976, following a year of separation from his family, he decided to rejoin them in their newfound home of Brazil.

Nothing eventful happened until 1990, when an independent recording he had made there began to receive airplay on local radio stations. In 1991 he was invited to record his debut solo album, “Blues & Derivados”, which received very positive reviews in Brazilian media.

He records his second solo album, “Long Distance Blues” for “Movieplay Records”, joined by Larry McCray and French harp player J.J. Milteau, considered as the best Harp Player in France and one of the most important in Europe. The album received rave reviews from Brazilian media. As part of his promotional tour for the album, Nuno was fortunate to gain a spot in a blues festival in Sao Paulo featuring Robert Cray, Otis Clay, Ronnie Earl, Lonnie Brooks, and Bo Diddley.

First known recognition by a major American music magazine. “Guitar Player Magazine” profiled Nuno in an issue. In the article, Jas Obrecht (the editor at the time) compared Nuno to Jimmy Page. (“think Jimmy Page I can’t quit you baby”). Further recognition came in their May, 1998 issue, as Nuno was selected as “Best Blues Guitarist” in the 30th Anniversary Guitar Player Magazine Competition
In 1995 Nuno was invited to play at Antone’s 20th Anniversary in Austin, Texas, opening for Guy Forsite, Junior Wells, and others. Clarence Gatemouth Brown and Storyville also performed at this event. The headlines of the Austin Blues newspaper warned of Nuno’s forthcoming visit as “The South American Beast is coming!”.
Later that year Nuno would record his album “Texas Bound”, featuring newly made friends Tommy Shannon & Chris Layton, Stevie Ray Vaughan’s rhythm section supreme, “Double Trouble”.With this album Nuno gained audiences in the entire world, from Brasil to the US and Europe. Texas Bound came to be the 12nd top seller in Benelux (Belgium, Netherlands and Luxemburg) sharing the shelfs with the world’s biggest blues names ,BB King, Robert Cray , Buddy Guy.

In 1999 Nuno released “Blues On The Outside”, again with double Trouble, and tours with this superb rhythm section to release the album. Again, rave reviews from the media.Blues on The Outside’s first track (The Grass is greener) was the top chart in all Internet blues radio stations according to Live 365 (24 hours radio monitoring). A canadian promoter and record company executive heard the record and invited Nuno for the 25th edition of the Montreal International Jazz Festival in 2001, followed by other presentations in Quebec , Ottawa . He was considered by the critic as the best blues guitar player of the festival and his presentation one of the best of the latest editions of the festival.
Nuno was once again invited in 2004 , after the release of his album Twelve Hours and again played Quebec and Ottawa and also the Montremblant Blues Festival, announced along with Keb Mo, Jimmy Vaughan and others.
The reviews on Twelve Hours were so many and so praising that we may just mention a reviewer’s question in one of them : “Is the new King of the blues a man based in Brazil?” (Andy Grieg,Realblues Magazine – Canada) .

In 2005 , Nuno did an album especially dedicated for Brazil. All the songs were sang in portuguese and Nuno officially showed his poetical skills for the first time, highlighting the songwriting and the fusion with other musical elements (rap, hip hop, even samba) rather than his usual guitar playing. The album received very good reviews from the main newspapers and magazines in Brazil and was considered one of year’s best album by prominent brazilian critic Pedro Alexandre Sanches.

In 2010, Nuno released Free Blues, an attempt to modernize the blues language,by fusing some blues and rock songs that had great influence in his music when still a Kid (from Muddy Waters’s All Your Love to Dave Mason’s feeling Alright ) with contemporary elements. Free Blues received good reviews from important newspapers and magazines. Carol Borrington, Blues Matters Magazine-UK wrote: “In this Cd you will find some of the best blues guitaring around” .

In 2013 – Invited to join the cast of great guitar player and producer Duke Robillard and Jesse Finkelstein’s label Duchess Blue / Shinning Stone Records , he records his next album to be released in 2013 in Lakewest studios / Rhode Island with production and participation of Duke in some tracks. Jesse Finkelstein is the founder and producer of Radio Blues International, that broadcasts from the US and reaches subscribed listeners in more than 120 countries.

Nuno is considered by the media and fans of Brazil as the best blues guitarist to ever come out of their country. Fans of British guitar legend Eric Clapton identify with graffiti once spray-painted on a London wall; “Clapton is God”. In Brazil the graffiti says “Mindelis – Brazil’s Guitar God!”.

Nuno Andrade Blues Drive presents themselves as a trio in it's more basic format, but, it's always possible to have more musicians on stage or studio, both as a bigger version of the band or as guest musicians for the gig - typical on this style of music.

Nuno Andrade is an experienced guitar player, vocalist and songwriter, influenced by such styles as Rock&Roll, Psychedelic Rock, Blues, Funk and Singer/Songwriter. He lend himself to the experimentation of the Blues - an old influence and passion - with the purpose of understanding it, explore it and test out new ways and approaches. He believes that the Blues are very important because it focuses on the human condition, the human soul and how deeply you can put it in the playing or singing.

Trough this process the songs are created both in a more classic way or in something else, keeping the improvisation as an important part of the performance and always trying to keep the "soul" as the main focus of each performance/recording.

In this release, the rhythm section, is defined by two great musicians - Diogo Rodrigues (bass) and Nifa Lobo (drums). - both experienced musicians heavily influenced by blues, jazz, rock and funk.

Rumbling Bass (PEDRO FERREIRA), Power Drums (NICO GUEDES), Overdriven Guitar, and Power Vocals (BUDDA GUEDES) makes Budda Power Blues one of a kind. But don’t be mistaken: they can also be gentle and the dynamics may vary from blasting to whisper! Budda Power Blues were born in 2004 with the goal of being a laboratory band, where the three musicians could adventure into the improvisation world without any commercial compromises. But soon the band took off and got bigger than anyone ever imagined.

They recorded the first record in 2005, in Ferro, Covilha, naming it “Wanted”. This record sold out pretty soon, and in 2008 they release their 2nd record “Busted”, at Gaia Blues Festival, where they performed alongside Shemekia Copeland and Sherman Robertson. The band tours all Portuguese festivals and in 2010 and release their 3rd record, honoring the 40th anniversary of Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsys record. They named it “Kind of Gypsys” because, as usual, the band turned the Hendrix record upside down and completely changed the arrangements. In 2013 Budda Power Blues releases their 4th record, and the first only with Budda’s original songs and lyrics. “One in a Million” is acclaimed by critics and fans as the band’s best record, and it took Budda Power Blues to a next level. They played in all of the Portuguese blues festivals again, and have been considered by critics as the best Portuguese blues band, and Budda as the best bluesman in Portugal. In 2015 Budda Power Blues release the self-titled 5th record.

10. Rockabilly Fever (2:57)
11. Have A Ball (2:59)
12. You Can't Run Away From Your Blues (3:48)

It is hard to believe that 3 years have passed since that first jam session in the summer of 2014 at Aloha Café. The little snowball haven’t stop growing, after the 6 track promo cassette, that arrived at Rhythm Bomb headquarters, soon A.J. & the Rockin’ Trio were promoting their first CD at The 20th Rockabilly Rave with gigs scheduled outside their old country Portugal, in the far corner of Western Europe.
A.J. & the Rockin’ Trio is a 4 piece classic Rockabilly combo that plays Authentic Rockabilly with their own mixture of influences like Rhythm & Blues, Country, Western Jazz and Early 60’s Rock’n’Roll, and joins old Rockin’ friends André Joaquim (Vocal / Acoustic Guitar), Celso Ladeira (Lead Guitar), Ruben “El Pavoni” (Upright Bass) and Rui “Tex” Gomes (Drums).
The new CD “Rockin’ The Blues” started taking form immediately after the band landed from the Rave, A.J. wrote Rockabilly Fever from their boppin’ time in U.K. and 9 more original songs, Celso Ladeira brought an old song from his repertoire that the band use to play live, and for the cover version appears “Have a Ball” from The Country Dudes.
For the recording A.J. & the Rockin’ Trio gathered at the old rehearsal warehouse in the old Industrial part of Lisbon, put together some microphones, even made some overdubs, and the result is what your hear, if you listen close you can hear the machinery of the Auto Repair, and you can even listen the old train passing by, the same as the video clip of “Waiting For You” from the previous CD “Howlin’ at the Moon”.
Sharing the same passion for Rockabilly, some of the band’s friends appear to play on the record. Nuno Lopes on the trombone, the childhood friend Piano virtuoso Jaime Oliveira, and two big names from the Rockin’ scene, Pedro Serra from the legendary Tennessee Boys, Mean Devils and TT Syndicate to name a few, and thanks to the modern technology, the Rhythm Bomb Records recording artist Coral Lee Farrow recorded her beautiful voice in Australia on the other side of the world.
So grab a beer, put the volume loud and enjoy as much as A.J. & the Rockin’ Trio enjoyed… Rockin’ the Blues!.

After some shows together, Budda Power Blues and Maria João decided it was time to get together and make a record. Budda signs all the lyrics and songwriting and Maria João offers her incredible voice and talent to the characters in each song. “The Blues Experience” is exactly that!! An experience in the fascinating world of the Blues, where Maria João lives behind her Jazz Background to embrace a song oriented record, full of very personal stories and thoughts, a lot of times sharing the role with Budda, considered to be the best Portugueses Blues artist.
The raw sound and energy of Budda Power Blues meets Maria João’s soft and gentle voice to create a new sound in a very special record.
It’s a Blues record but make no mistakes. We are in the XXI century, so there’s a lot of influences in it, due to all of the music Budda Guedes, Nico Guedes and Maria João listen to.
10 songs with a very personal approach, usually autobiographic, makes “The Blues Experience” a very eclectic record, traveling through many Blues styles.
