With more than sixteen musicians playing on the 10 songs on the album, there is a mismatch of styles and no real musical cohesion, but it is still an excellent and largely upbeat collection of blues songs. With three originals supplied by guitarist and singer Kern Pratt, with opener Loving That Feeling being an upbeat funk piece, with plenty of slide guitar and Hammond organ supporting the soul in his voice. Baby’s Got Another Lover is a slow blues song, with a clean guitar taking in chromatic jazz ideas. Torn Between Love and Hate is a slow-paced song that owes a massive debt to The Thrill is Gone. The piano part on Something’s Gone Wrong is a fine counterpart to Pratt’s guitar and vocals, and album closer Chicken Heads fuses wah wah guitar, octave bass and a funk rhythm guitar part to create a lively floor-filler. Although the songs are all well-produced, the differences in the studio musicians used means that the music is not as distinctive as it could have been. A band often has a distinct musical personality, fused by a small group of musicians working together to make the songs work, and although that is missing from this album, it doesn’t really distract from the quality of the release.

Music courses through Kern Pratt's veins as surely as the Mississippi River flows through the Delta. And just like the Mighty River has affected lives up and down its banks, Kern touches the souls of those who hear his music. After all, music is the voice of the soul and Kern helps us hear it loud and clear.
Kern's music blends all that is good about Delta music and takes it out in the world. His rock influenced blues produces funky, bluesy,jazzy,toe-tapping tunes that are a blend of the musicians who have influenced him along with life experiemces that have left a mark on him personally and his music. But the biggest influence by far on his music has been the Mississippi Delta itself, growing up in a close knit community playing the venues he didand hearing so many delta born musicians all helped shape the artist he is today. The original blues greats are dying out leaving artists like Kern Pratt to keep the blues alive.
