Born 1946 in Copenhagen, Denmark. As a boy, Troels played piano and cornet in school bands and various jazz and skiffle bands. He debuted as a cornet player at the legendary “Kap Horn” jazz club in Copenhagen. In the mid 60’s he formed a folk duo with Thomas Puggaard-Muller, performing at the famous ViseVersHus in Copenhagen’s Tivoli Gardens.

In 67 Troels founded an electric, Chicago style blues band that debuted at Copenhagen’s world-renowned jazz club “Montmartre”. Since then, the band has appeared in varying line-ups, but always with Troels Jensen as the leading figure. A particularly successful constellation featured former Bob Dylan guitarist Billy Cross. This version was called Delta Cross Band.

Other activities include duo and band collaboration with Danish blues harp ace Jorgen Lang in the band “Katzenjammer Kids”. Countless backing gigs and tours with acts like Link Wray, Bo Diddley, Mickey Baker, Sunnyland Slim, Memphis Slim, Eddie Kirkland, Harmonica Smith, Gatemouth Brown, Little Brother Montgomery, Charlie Musselwhite; Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee and many others.

Sometimes you just have to get the basics right and work out from there. And when it comes to blues music, the vocal is where it all begins. Lyrics shot through with honesty and integrity and delivered with total passion are the beating heart of the genre, always have been, always will be. You can forget all the electric-blues scenes that cropped up in the seventies and which seem not to have lost any of their popularity to this day, that’s just rock music hitching a ride on the blues bandwagon.

With this in mind, this Danish project seeks to reawaken and revitalise a modern interest in blues, to try to underline the fundamentals that make the genre what it is and bring it to a new generation. A generation’s only image of the genre is either the sound of old scratchy solo recordings or leviathan rockers overplaying the sonic hand. As commercial music has become more cold and calculated, more financially driven and throwaway, perhaps blues is the place to look for a new emotional music experience.

Catawampus is an album that certainly tips its hat, probably a battered fedora worn at a jaunty angle, at the blues musicians of the ’50s and earlier. However, it is no mere pastiche and brings itself up to date with just the lightest dusting of other genres such as soul, gospel as you might expect, and less predicted production approach that lends more to the likes of hip-hop than traditional recording methods. But it all comes down to the music being used to carry that all-important vocal rather than someone just writing blues songs with lyrics tacked on as an afterthought. And that is where the album comes into its own.

And as is the way with many blues albums, this is an album of standards, but this is where the twist comes. It is a combination of new production and reinterpreted playing applied to existing songs, often unused takes and shelved recordings that haven’t seen the light of day, and thus you end up with something both fresh and authentic, archival music being brought bang up to date. There are iconic songs such as Mud Morganfield’s take on his father’s Mannish Boy, Sahra De Silva’s adds some sultry jazz-rock vocals to Rollin’ & Tumblin’, and perhaps the most wonderfully weird offering is the last one, essentially James Harman handing out Cornbread cooking tips to an ancient blues-bar piano score.

So this is an album of more recent standards being revisited, reworked, re-celebrated for all the right reasons. I guess more than anything; it proves that a good song is a good song no matter what you do with it. Forget the revolution; Catawampus is all about the evolution. ~Dave Franklin

With a voice aged by experience, Troels Jensen is still going places as he and the congregation The Healers and singer Miriam Mandipira spread the message of life and of love through storytelling.

Troels Jensen has finally established his dream project: a large band consisting of rhythm, reeds and voices—respectively The Healers, The Blues Horns and The Belles of Joy—Miriam Mandipira is now a featured member. Together they let the music roll along like a well-oiled freight train, through rockers and ballads, be they originals or standards. Troels Jensen has played the blues all his life, and this is the kind of album where the perfect mix of inward nostalgia and boozed-up rock moods kick in the door from the very first note. Mandipira's powerful voice emphasises the carefully developed skils of Jensen & The Healers and challenges the band to bring forth even more emotion.

Mandipira and Jensen has performed together on numerous occasions to great critical acclaim. Their new project My Love promises to bring together the best from the blues and soul tradition with a lively, modern spirit produced by a large band where each member gives their all to the music.

The title of Jump band here present 20 years anniversary-CD is not chosen at random. From the beginning, blues and blues-feeling was the bearing elements in the Group udfoldel look. It is therefore together natural that Troels Jensen grand old man in Danish blues -is on this occasion. Troels has already appeared several times with band, including on Femø Jazz Festival and by Little Beat Records' Concert & release party in Bilhuset Taastrup. The presentation by a guest This CD is in line with previous releases Where other musical friends, namely Jacob Fischer, Ole 'Fessor' Lindgren, Kim Menzer and Elith 'Nulle' Nykjær attend.
To Jump band has able to maintain the same crew throughout the years, is also no coincidence. Common to Hans Knudsen, Leonardo Pedersen, Jens Sølund and Henrik Simonsen is namely the desire to to test my limits, to create its own easily recognizable orchestral. To be work numbers on a completely personal way, and to 'interact' with the audience in a humorous and relaxed atmosphere-mind you without compromising on the quality performances. These characteristics characterize precisely overall impression of Hans Knudsen Jump Band.
Another character: Jump band does not sound like a quartet. But as a small orchestra. Leonardo Pedersen's Dynamik on clarinet and saxophones eliminates additional fans, and Hans Knudsen blues shouting and boogie-woogie affected piano create together Jens Sølund melodic basdrive and Henrik Simonsen cool beat a tightly gripping sound. The band was originally immediately, and still is, one of Denmark's most popular and in all contexts most used.
