Mandy Lemons, winner of the 2015 Emissaries of Memphis Music Peoples Choice Award, and Sturgis Nikides, who recorded and toured with the legendary Rock & Roll Hall Of Famer, John Cale (of The Velvet Underground) - aka/Low Society - are blazing new trails on the stomping grounds of Blues Roots and Americana music. Texas Blues, Memphis Rock 'N Soul and a healthy dose of New York attitude help define the sound and spirit of their sophomore 2014 album, 'You Can't Keep A Good Woman Down', on Icehouse Records.

Their NEW album SANCTIFIED is a trans-Atlantic production with native Belgians Jacky Verstraeten on bass and Bart De Bruecker on drums (http://www.rawblues.be/), as well as Memphis legend Rick Steff back on the keys. The rhythm tracks were recorded at Closed Session Recording Studio in Roeselare, Belgium, by Kristof Maes. All additional recording and tracks were done back home - at American Recording Studio in Memphis, TN, with engineer Will Danger.

[3:31] 10. Sugar Coated Love

This is our debut album, an eclectic collection of 9 original songs and Mandy's in-your-face cover of Lazy Lesters 'Sugar Coated Love'. Variously described as "neo-delta blues" by the Austin Chronicle's Margaret Moser, and "southern country blues...super-charged to a white-hot intensity" by Roger White of Big City Rhythm & Blues Magazine. Our favorite critique, by Gene Gregorits, goes like this: "...here are those classic southern wasteland blues brought back defibrillated and speed-dosed, by two downtown demons who know their way around Hell better than the living are ever really supposed to. It’s all in the grooves, as they say, and you can’t help but hear it. Psychotic and masterful, this is a record and a group to pay serious attention to." Say no more!

Miss Mandy Lemons - Vocal Slinger; Sturgis Nikides - Lead & Slide Guitar, National Steel Guitar, Banjo; Charles Roth - Bass Guitar (+Snare Drum on Crazy Love); Rowdy Bodine - Swamp Bass; Charlie Walker IV - Drums.

You'd be forgiven if, in stumbling upon the first notes of a Low Society song, you thought you'd found a forgotten classic. But a few bars in and you know this is not your grandpa's blues. Sturgis Nikides slide guitar starts at the blues but winds its way through the full repertoire of what we sometimes call rock and roll, from its origins in delta blues to its far dark alternative edge. Woven with the powerful voice of his partner in life and crime, Mandy Lemons, his genre-bending guitar style has found its home. The pair has codified their shared love of Texas and Delta Blues, hillbilly music and rock 'n roll into their own subconscious language. Low Society’s songs are a diverse amalgamation of intensely personal original blues with lyrics that invoke Mandy's hard scrabble Texas origins.

Mandy Lemons sings the blues with an astonishing powerhouse voice which mixes original southern fried soul and northern attitude. She hails from one of the blues ‘capitals’ of the world, Houston Texas, home of the late great Lightnin’ Hopkins. Her mother exposed her to Billie Holiday at an early age, which made a lasting impression. You will be astonished to hear so much power coming out of such a small figure, and you can clearly hear the influences of Koko Taylor, Etta James, Bessie Smith, and of course Janis Joplin. Her performances are visually and emotionally dramatic, approaching legendary status.
