Formed in 1981 in Columbia, MO, by brothers Dick Pruitt and Dave Pruitt, the Bel Airs specialize in modern blues with a dose of soul. Highlighted by Dick Pruitt's raspy, expressive vocals and brother Dave's slicing guitar lines and driven by former Paladins and James Harman Band drummer Michael Cherry, the group has developed an explosive stage show that one critic likened to watching the Everly Brothers play the blues. The Bel Airs' debut album, Need Me a Car, was released on Blind Pig Records in 1984, followed by Dangerous Curves on Borrowed Records in 1991, HooDoo Party on Blueberry Hill Records in 1999, and Got Love on Hightone Records in 2005. "Dangerous Curves" marks the successful translation of the roadhouse flavor of the Bel Airs' live shows onto disc. The Bel Airs and stellar musical guests like Johnnie Johnson at the piano give twelve cuts their unique treatment powered by a rock-solid rhythm section. Even the uninitiated would suspect the sibling vocal harmonies to be more than coincidental. Fans who've seen the band perform will recognize some favorite quirky Bel Airs' originals like "Girl On the TV News" and "Chinese Rock", as well as house rockin' covers like "Hook My Pony" and "Nadine". Sure to satisfy longtime fans and gain some new ones.

Got Love is another solid, soulful blues effort from Missouri's own Bel Airs, driven by bassist Dick Pruitt's weathered vocals and brother Dave Pruitt's no-frills, efficient guitar work. The trio (Michael Cherry, formerly of the Paladins, is the drummer) doesn't reach for the stars here, but works out of familiar territory, dropping a couple of originals into a mix of modern blues and early rock & roll covers. Among the highlights are a moving version of the Tams' "What Kind of Fool," the strong rhythmic playing of Michael Cherry on Willie Dixon's "Just You and I" (which also features a guest appearance by Joe Terry on piano), and a stripped-down, acoustic rendition of Isaiah "Doctor" Ross' adaptation of "Going to the River," which allows Dave Pruitt to dust off his fine slide guitar skills. Again, Got Love doesn't try to stretch any boundaries, but Dick Pruitt's soulful singing gives the Bel Airs a lot of presence, and the "just the facts, ma'am" approach to what the trio does is actually pretty comforting, a bit like hearing your favorite local blues band play at your favorite beer joint on a Friday night, and yes, you just got paid
