There are singers, songwriters, and guitarists, and some do it all, but few as convincingly or with the proficiency of Ty Curtis, whose record of accomplishments stands with and, arguably, exceeds those of artists twice his age. Now, with his eighth album, “Ascendant Blues”, Ty pushes boundaries, framed in the context of a seminal, but evolving art form, and looking to its future. Another album, from the same star-studded session, is in reserve, soon to be issued as a follow-up. These recordings were done in a manner that comes as close to live performances as possible, intended to bring that level of excitement to the listening audience.

The strength of these live performances, with Ty leading the charge, is supported by a group of seasoned musicians – Steve Kerin (keys), David Kahl (bass), and Richard Lawrence (drums) – each of them respected artists, with drawing power, in their own rights, in the Portland-based community. There’s something special in the interplay between them, an energy and flow in their music, with each of them prepared to guide the others through a sonic adventure. Of course, this comes from lots of playing together but here it is strengthened and tempered by their intimate involvement in developing the songs, featured on the new recordings. Responses, during and after, from musicians and nonmusicians, alike, have been consistently positive, whether as a solo artist, acoustic or electric, from solo performer, through various configurations and even into collaborative efforts.
If you’ve seen Ty Curtis before, then be prepared for what others have said; that, as good as he is, there is now an elevated quality about seeing him performing, especially with this band. If you’ve never had the pleasure, prepare yourselves; you’re about to embark on a memorable journey.

Ty Curtis has been winning awards for his vocals and musicianship for the last 10 years.

In 2009 his raw soulful version of 5 Long Years by Eddie Boyd captivated the audience and earned the band 2nd place in The International Blues Challenge and lead to performances at The Montreal Jazz Festival in Canada and the St John Blues Festival USVI.

His first live music experience was Silverchair at the LB Day Amphitheater in Salem Oregon where Curtis grew up. “It was their performance and musicianship that made me want to play guitar and sing” he recalls “I wanted to rock out like them” and with that inspiration ingrained, Ty asked his parents for a guitar which he never let go of. “It was this kid’s Toy Western guitar that my parents found at a garage sale, the strings were way off the fretboard” he laughs “I played that thing until my fingers bled” From the age of sixteen, Ty started showing up at local clubs and playing at any blues jam he could find. It wasn't long before Ty was winning over admirers and attracting a large fan base in the Northwest. With each subsequent album release Ty’s reputation continued to grow establishing him as one of the torch bearers in a new generation of Blues. The band competed in the Journey to Memphis in Portland through the Cascade Blues Association and won giving him the chance to perform on the National stage. It was there in Memphis that Ty met David Z which led to him producing the third album ‘Cross That Line’.

After a move to Austin Texas Ty decided to pursue a musical relationship with Steve Miller Band’s guitarist Jacob Petersen. That pairing led to album releases “Ty Curtis” and “Water Under The Bridge” where both albums received high praise and rave reviews. “His ability to think outside the box, and blend his influences from other genres of music fit perfectly amongst the assortment of true blues rock style. With 5 albums under his belt Curtis decided to co produce his 6th album ‘Blame Me’ with the help of Austin producer and bassist Nick Jay (Ed Kowalzick, Alpha Rev & SXSW engineer). Packed with soul,blues and ripping guitar riffs, Ty’s latest effort features some of the most heart-felt emotion tugging vocals to come out in several years reminiscent of Bad Company’s Paul Rodgers.’Back Again’ shows of Ty’s killer guitar work and he shifts gears on a slower more soulful ‘I Can Say,’ but still has those electric guitar moments interspersed at times occurring like exclamation points at key moments in the song.

The album received some of the best reviews of his career and was selected as #9 Top Blues Rock Albums of 2016 by bluesrockreview.com placing with such names as Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Beck and Devon Allmond.

Curtis, who graduated from Sprague High School (Ore) in 2005, has been living in Austin, Texas, pursuing a professional music career. "I am playing in a pop country band down here. I am on salary. We play about five to six shows a month right now," Curtis said. "I am learning what it is like to be a side guy. It's a different role for me, but it's a lot of fun."

Curtis' new album, which is called "Water Under the Bridge," is about moving on, he said. "It's about forgetting all the drama and just playing. Getting down to the nitty gritty so to speak. I made the move, I picked up everything I own and U-Hauled it over to Texas from Oregon. "I'm trying to return to my blues roots and what people know me for but show I can still go off in other styles as well." Curtis describes the recording as "hard driving blues."

Ty Curtis’ musical journey continues to explore new territory. But the heartfelt lyrics, emotion wrought vocals and searing guitar licks are still there. At 25 Ty has already released four critically acclaimed CDs that feature his ever growing catalog of original songs. Ty’s compositions range from soulful ballads to roadhouse rockers to reggae and blues. And live performances cover the same wide range of material with drive and fire that fill the dance floors.

Ty and his band have won multiple awards including the Cascade Blues Association’s Muddy Awards for NW Recording of the Year, New Act, Male Vocalist (2x), Regional Act and Contemporary Blues Act. And in 2009 the Band finished second at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis Tennessee.

The band has performed at venues ranging from the Montreal Jazz Festival, St John Blues Festival (US Virgin Islands), Portland’s Waterfront Blues Festival (5x), Bumbershoot, River Rhythms, Sonora Blues Festival as well as clubs from Austin to Seattle.

The band has opened for George Thorogood, Doobie Brothers, Robin Trower, Lukas Nelson and The Promise of The Real, Little River Band, Kenny Wayne Sheppard, Los Lonely Boys, and other mainstage acts Walter Trout, Chris Cain, Coco Montoya, Roy Rogers, Curtis Salgado, Paul Delay and Lloyd Jones.
