Give the Drummer Some, J. Hansen’s first solo CD, is a showcase of all that he does: singing, songwriting, arranging, guitar playing and drumming. The album encompasses the three musical styles that have influenced his songwriting the most: blues, country, and rock and roll. The music is not a combination of styles, rather, a showcase of his songwriting talents in three distinct styles-all related as American roots music. Therefore, this CD may be considered Americana to some, blues to others, or even a rock album. It also features his jazz chops and his “talking drum” solos on his unique a capella arrangement of Mack the Knife. Give the Drummer Some features some of the best musicians on the blues scene today: Kid Andersen (formerly of the Charlie Musselwhite band, now a Nightcat) on guitar and keyboards, Rick Estrin on harmonica, Lorenzo Farrell on the bass, Bobby Welsh (John Nemeth band) on piano, and Lisa Leuschner (finalist on American Idol) doing some amazing gospel wailing. This CD is sure to please anyone who appreciates America’s greatest contribution to world culture-its music.
