King of the World is celebrating its 10th anniversary and the gentlemen are hitting it big with a new CD (February 2022), a "Royal Ten" release tour and a one-off show with special guests in the spring of 2022.

After forming in 2012, the label "supergroup" was quickly assigned to the band due to the rich musical history of the band members (Snowy White, Matt Schofield and Cuby & The Blizzards among others). Now, ten years later, King of the World is a band that still lives up to this monniker and has lost nothing in energy, drive and creativity. From the beginning with Erwin Java and Fokke de Jong to the current line-up with Belgian guitar virtuoso Stef Delbaere and drummer/vocalist Marlon Pichel, King of the World has always stood for top quality roots rhythm & blues.

The band has built up a solid reputation, both in the studio and on stage. The previous five albums received nothing but rave reviews and the many shows at home and abroad at venues such as the North Sea Jazz Festival, Ribs 'n Blues, Vienna Spring Blues Festival, Paradiso and other Dutch pop temples, have carved the rock-solid live reputation in stone. Besides recognition from the public, the band has also received many Blues Awards (including best keyboardist, best drummer, best bassist (3x), best guitarist and best band). Stef Delbaere is considered by Guitarist Magazine to be one of the best blues/rock guitarists in the Benelux. King of the World was repeatedly seen and heard in TV and radio shows including Vrije Geluiden (TV), Pauw en Witteman (TV, 2x), Derksen on the Road (TV), Jongens van het Noorden (TV), Spijkers met Koppen (radio) and TROS-music cafe (radio).

On the anniversary CD 'Royal Ten' King of the World shows itself an inspired and energetic band with all elf-penned material , written in the covid-stricken months. The band members were forced to stay at home and processed this together, as soon as they were allowed to again, into these new songs, which are drenched in urgency. The tracks on this CD go from modest, intense and personal to exuberant and powerful. The need to make music together is so strong that the songs pop out of your speakers. The material that Ruud, Govert, Stef and Marlon have written in this difficult period without shows belongs to the best that King of the World has produced in its 10-year existence.

It has been over two years since we introduced the fourth CD of King of the World in this section. The collective around the singing bassist Ruud Weber, organist Govert van der Kolm and guitarist Erwin Java confirmed with Cincinnati their reputation as one of the better bands in the blues rock landscape dominated by guitars. The guitarist, of course, stepped on, Erwin Java with a past at White Honey and later reincarnations of Herman Brood's Wild Romance and Cuby's Blizzards and co-founder of KOTW. The waning musical interaction and activities in projects such as Pioniers of the Nederpop and Keeping The Blue Alive accelerated Java's decision, as well as plans for a second solo album.

The departure of Java seems quite digested, the newcomer Stef Delbaere learned the trade in the Belgian blues and rock circuit. As a young man, the Ghent guitarist figured with primordial smokers The Vipers and graduated successfully from the Rotterdam Conservatory. Despite his young age, Delbaere does not only have the right technical baggage, in about half of the tracks, including the title song, he is mentioned together with the other group members as a co-author of Weber.

The hurried, rocking title track, just like the rhythmic opener, draws attention. The powerful vocals of Weber supported by tight rhythms developed by Weber and Fokke with young swinging organ lines by van der Kolm provide the familiar sound. Delbaere's flowing expressive sparse string play is a perfect fit with this, as illustrated in the harmonious background vocals Give Me Back My Heart, Saving Grace is also such a sharpener with thin string spins.

The life-long ballad Life After You comes closest to the blues with a lot of room for Delbaere's elaborate escapades that will especially appeal to the string chords. Personally, I feel more connected to the somewhat more compact, rhythmic work in which input from the Hammond organ and other keyboard work prevails, such as Eyes Wide Open and especially the interpretation and cover of Matthew Moore's Space Captain known by Joe Cocker. /Cis van Looy (Translated from Dutch.)

Since the kick-off early 2012 of “K(ing) (O)f (T)he W(orld)” ( Erwin Java (gtr), Fokke de Jong (drs/bvox), Govert van der Kolm (Hammond/bvox) and Ruud Weber (leadvox/bgtr), things have developed prosperously for this Dutch blues-, rhythm & roots band.

Through the release of the 2 albums “Can't Go Home “(2013) and “KOTW” (2014) the band definitely confirmed its status in the Dutch blues scene. Both albums scored sheer positive reviews as well in the Dutch as in the foreign music press.

But also the live reputation that has been built up through shows at festivals like the Rhythm & Blues Night Groningen, Bluesrock Tegelen and the Highlandsfestival, has contributed to the forementioned status. And the band is not only playing at festivals but is also a regular guest at Dutch rock venues like Paradiso Amsterdam, De Boerderij Zoetermeer, Hedon Zwolle and many others. A living proof that the band has succeeded in expressing the blues in its various forms. Furthermore, other than the press, also radio and TV is spotting the band: in march 2013 the group is live presenting “Can't Go Home” in the radio show “TROS Music Café”. In that same period the band is making a live-appearance in the TV-show “Vrije Geluiden “ (transl. Free Sounds). The latter being the first time ever for a Dutch blues-orientated band.

The group has won 5 Dutch Blues Awards in 2014 (best drummer, best keyboardplayer, best bass player, best guitarist and best bluesband). Two unique live-appearances early 2014 on the prestigious late night TV-show “Pauw & Witteman” is confirming the bands growing nationwide recognition. On June 2nd 2014 the band is spotlighted for 45 minutes in a RTL7 TV-special called “Derksen on the Road”. 2014 is marked by no less than 60 KOTW-shows from which the one on the North Sea Jazz Festival in Rotterdam (July 13th) is considered to be one of the highlights. Also the band played their first shows in Germany, which is leading to, more shows over there. So we can expect something there in the near future. In November 2014 the soundbook “Pioniers van de Nederpop” (transl. Pioneers of Dutch Rock) is released as a result of forementioned “Derksen on the Road”. The DVD contains a.o. the TV-special concerning King Of The World where the CD contains a.o. 4 KOTW-songs. X-mass 2014 KOTW is playing 8 songs live in a regional TV-show called “ Jongens van het Noorden” (transl. Boys from the North). It 's another intimate portrait of the band. In this last month of that year KOTW is recording several live shows. The show at Dutch Rockvenue nr. 1 “Paradiso“ (Amsterdam) has got that special atmosphere. In May 2015 the album “Live at Paradiso” is released and has received nothing but raving reviews. And...the planning for a third studio-album is on the roll.

King of the World in December 2014 took various shows on during their tour. Many recordings with the outlier the show in Paradiso. This resulted in the CD Live at Paradiso.

The new CD Live at Paradiso contains King of the World classics like Let's go get stoned, Bluesified and Can't go home, but also new songs as Do it and Woman across the river.

“King of the World” is the new Roots Rhythm & Blues group from the Netherlands. Legendary guitarist Erwin Java decided to form a band after the dead of his buddy and blues legend Harry Muskee, with whom he played for over 25 years in Cuby & the Blizzards. The guitarist also known for his work with Jan Akkerman, Larry Carlton and Herman Brood got in lead singer and bass player Ruud Weber, known for his work with Snowy White, Hammond player Govert van der Kolm who played with artist like Coco Montoya, Matt Schofield and Monster Mike Welch, and drummer Fokke de Jong who’s been in the drum seat of the number one dialect band Normaal for over 20 years.
After their first rehearsals in beginning 2012, the rumour started going around the Netherlands and within weeks the first try-outs were booked and sold-out. Soon there was talk of a new superband.
King of the World’s name refers to an old John Lee Hooker song and of course to the three Kings, Albert, Freddy and BB King.

With a wide variety of roots combined with 3 parts harmony singing, they developed their own sound in songs they wrote and performed throughout 2012. This resulted in their recently released debut CD “Can’t go home” that received raving reviews and got them on the Dutch Album charts, National Radio and Television shows.
