The great harmonica player, singer, guitarist and composer Richard Ray Farrell is one of the best and most international artists of the Andalusian blues label Cambaya . It is about a veteran author who was a street musician in the seventies and who already has an extensive and highly recommended discography. Without going any further, he was nominated this year by The Blues Foundation with his "Three Pints ??Of Gin" as the best acoustic blues album of the year. Similarly, it has been on the Living Blues radio charts for months as the best acoustic blues duo album.
From Niagara Falls , New York , he has traveled the world with his music. Now I wanted to make an electric record because that was what the body asked of it, and it's just what it has done. For this he has created his umpteenth band, The Leisure Men , made up of the great Canadian guitarist Troy Nhaumko and the Bárez brothers in the rhythm section. Together they have created this “Life Of Leisure” ( Cambodia / Karonte), which begins to the rhythm of Chicago's boogie trotter , but with his unmistakable harmonica that also reminds a bit of that of Charlie Musselwhite, to which is added his more than correct voice and that great band that supports him. Voodoo aromas and airs of Dr. John and the swamp blues of New Orleans appear in his version of "It's Your Vooddo Working", by Charles Sheffield, which you will also love if you are one of those who follow the great trajectory of Eirc Bibb.
However, on this album the songs he composed himself dominate, although he does give us some other unusual and very well resolved version. A lot of boogie, a la Canned Heat or ZZ Top, is what " One Last Look" contains , taking Jimmy Nolen's slow and leisurely blues in "The Way You Do" to territories close to John Mayall. Incredible Nhaumko picks that decorate "Livin 'The Life Of Leisure" and good version again of the slow Sonny Boy Williamson II, "Please Forgive", with outstanding slide guitar.
Among the own songs, the long and slow "One Of These Days", with its six and a half minutes and the almost ten of "So Sad At Day Break", with its sublime harmonica and some punctures with nocturnal aromas shine. Of course, for the closing another good uncommon version is saved, such as "I Don't Know About You", by Lloyd Nolan. ~Txema Mañeru
