Czech harmonica virtuoso and singer Charlie Slavik is known to the Czech and Slovak audience mainly as a member of the band of Prague-based American singer Juwana Jenkins, or from the time when he played with Slovak bluesman Luboš Beno. Together with him, in 2012, he became the first and so far only Czech to participate in the prestigious International Blues Challenge in Memphis, where they made it to the semi-finals. In the meantime, he performed with his Charlie Slavik Revue, and recently he visited the United States. The result of his visit is a new CD. It is called ‘A Nice Reminder’ and was recorded at the famous Sound Emporium Studios in Nashville, Tennessee.

Featuring 12 original songs sung in English and a great sound, the new release was recorded under the supervision of producer Steve Walsh, who is also listed in the booklet as co-writer of most of the songs and guitarist. Drummer Wes Little and bassist Brian Allen are included as additional band members. If you assume that recordings from Nashville, a legendary bastion of country music, would sound downright country, you’d be wrong. As a musician with a very wide range of genres, Charlie Slavik oscillates between his favorite rockabilly, swinging 50s pop, rock and jump blues. /Bluestown Music

Band Of Heysek - Juke My Joint (Feat. R.L. Boyce & Kenny Brown)

Band of Heysek is a bunch of guys who compose and play sensuous and emotional songs. Their blues are raw and dirty.

The band was formed in 2015. All three musicians have known each other for a very long time and very well from various Brno bands. Their zero concert at the Eurotrialog festival in Mikulov was so popular that they received an invitation to the next year, but also an offer to precede the famous The Smokie in Ostrava (2015). Since then, they have given concerts in clubs and festivals, especially in the Czech Republic, but also in Poland, Bosnia and Slovakia, including the famous BluesAlive (2017).

In the autumn of 2018, they accompanied a trio of bluesmen from Mississippi on a Czech-Polish mini-tour with a stop at BluesAlive in Šumperk. In the summer of 2019, on the other hand, they headed with their concert set to their home festival in the US North Mississippi Hill Country Picnic. At the end of their blues tour, they visited the recording studio in Water Valley with two rare guests - Kenny Brown and RL Boyce (nominated in 2017 for a Grammy Award in the blues category). From the two-day recordings, the band prepared two separate albums for release, of which the first "Band Of Heysek - Juke My Joint" is out now.

Concertist and singer Matej Ptaszek with his teammates Jan Stehlik and Jan Cihak made a new album Screaming The Blues. The album was made in the studio, but it was shot live. The musicians have dedicated it to this year's half-century anniversary since the legendary Woodstock Festival, held in a meadow near the American town of Bethel. The album is in the spirit of the blues bands that played at the festival - Canned Heat or The Paul Butterfield Blues Band - and other bluesmen who have reached the rockers of that time. Woodstock has influenced for several generations forever and still acts as proof that love, freedom and music are inseparable.

Blues Amplified - Space Shuffle

Size: 94,0 MB
Time: 40:37
File: MP3 @ 320K/s
Released: 2018
Styles: Blues Rock
Art: Front

01. All Night Long (4:33)
02. Chance (5:08)
03. Going Down (4:06)
04. So Much (4:00)
05. Tonight You've Been Cryin' (7:21)
06. Losing My Mind (4:26)
07. Space Shuffle (6:08)
08. You Shook Me (4:51)

Blues Amplified = Band continuing the tradition of the original hardcore and blues. This is a trio of bass / vocals, guitar and drums, which brings straightforwardness, breakthrough and blues urgency, but also the difficulty of instrumental abilities of musicians, in this case players with years of experience. The repertoire is for the most part self-produced, which would be hard to deny the relationship with bands such as Allman Brothers Band, Free, Humble Pie, Cactus and others. The members of the band perceive it as an extremely important musical training gained during many years of exploring American and English music of the late 1960s and early 1970s, as Honza Holecek expressed with slight exaggeration "We have heard all the records of that time." However, it is not a copy, it is a work based on the same principles of composition and arrangements what the famous bands of that time used.

Jan Holecek (Energit, Luboš Andršt Blues band, Afterglow, Freeway Jam, RBB) is a composer, keyboardist, bass guitarist, but mainly a singer with a real blues feeling. Ray Charles has learned to sing most of the quality singers of this style, including Honza, but there is a strong influence from other giants such as Gregg Allman, Steve Marriott, Paul Rogers, Roger Chapman. In Blues Amplified, Honza alternates both keyboards and bass. At the B.A. concerts he plays mostly bass and sings.

Jindrich Musil (Freeway Jam, Afterglow, Led Zeppelin Revival, Eric Clapton Revival), a great guitarist and songwriter. He always composed, but he was not able to find his compositions. Playing in guitar rehearsal bands for him was a great challenge and great entertainment, but he was strictly avoiding circus elements in the sense of copying original players in terms of clothing, gestures and equipment. But he always copied everything he liked when playing guitar without scruples, in the sense of saying, "Listen to all, steal the best." He stole this password from Peter Frampton. However, only re-collaboration with Honza Holecek enabled him to fully develop his compositional and texting skills and gave him another impetus to his instrumental development.

Dan Hubacek (accompanied by Canadian bluesman Martha Halla, Jan Koubkova, Led Zeppelin Southern Revival ...) is a very talented drummer who is the most inspired John Bonham play. Sensitivity and sense of tension are other attributes of his rhythmically diverse games, just like the quick reactions in the improvisation parts.

Blues Amplified concerts are appreciated by anyone interested in the roots of blues and rock music, the band playing honestly, engaging with conviction. The belief that blues is not an archaic and surviving affair, however, is the current and necessary music, and that it makes a lot of sense to go along the way to the singularity of extraordinary creation and performance, as demonstrated by a number of world bands at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s.

EM Drew's latest release, Bohemian Blues, is an eclectic collection of Jazzy Blues with a touch of Folk and Country. This band creates songs with subtle original rhythms reminiscent of albums such as; Savoy Brown, Raw Sienna; Buffalo Springfield, Retrospective; and the Grateful Dead. EM Drew creates their sound with weekly practice jams that reflect participating musicians' mood at the time. Each song's style evolves though the weeks and the months, until we finally pick a session recording. We polish it up a little in George's Kitchen Studio and the sweltering Hot Box Studio. Then we sort through our latest stash of songs, working together to select the 'chosen ones'. Using minimal effects and very little dynamics we try to keep the sound alive, not metalized. Here are 14 songs we have created for you.

Martin crysman Zahradník - harmonica, vocals, snare drum
Víta Hrbác - double bass

This LIVE album contains some real good-old-blues fashioned songs with harmonica like “Young Boy”, but also some more 'poppy' ones like “For Her”, or even swing/folk/soul style like in “Fool That Way” that features more drums and double bass. You may also enjoy slide-guitar riffs in open tunings like in "California".

BACKSiGHT's specific style is based on two acoustic guitars with strong lead male vocals accompanied by additional vocals, frequent harmonica, double bass and drums, which have been since 2015 uniquely played at the same time by two of us - we've got them split! One of the guitarists kicks the bass drum & tambourine, and the harmonica player tickles the snare drum.

However, she quickly become the big thing of the Czech music scene. First she cooperated with the renowned guitarist Luboš Andršt in some blues projects, then she quickly turned to more modern turf of dance music as the vocalist of Liquid Harmony. In 2000, Graves boarded the soul express known as Monkey Business of which she has been one of the hallmarks until present.

Alongside with her main engagement she is an occasional guest in Smetáček's New Orchestra of Dreams big band or in Moimir Papalescu's retro-electronic-disco music project, The Stylist. Graves has been recently occupied by her first solo project. Although the album is not planned for release until this fall, Tonya Graves and her band have been giving gigs since one year ago when they had their concert premiere as support to Macy Gray's concert in Prague.
