Time: 34:17
File: MP3 @ 320K/s

2. Rock Dog (4:03)
3. Up Is Down (3:17)
4. Bad Choices Make Good Stories (5:08)
5. Hip Hop Shake (2:51)

8. Life Is Good (3:27)
9. There Is A Train (6:08)

Tomislav Goluban is a Croatian harp player. Crooked Eye Tommy is a west coast guitar player. So why not get together to create an album called Nashville Road? Goluban (which translates to Little Pigeon and is his nickname) was weaned on Slim Harpo and Sonny Terry, so it was only natural harmonica blues were in his future. And Ventura, California gave rise to Tommy and the sound of blues rock by him and his band. When Goluban heard them, he wanted to get together with them and they did. First in Croatia and then in the States, their music became intertwined and an album was just destined.

Recorded at Jasco’s Music Lab in Nashville, the album is all original music. Goluban wrote all but the final track which was penned by Crooked Eye Tommy Marsh. Anamarija Nekíc wrote the lyrics for “Life Is Good.” The Little Pigeon handles vocals on tracks 3 and 7 and harp throughout the album. Marsh is on vocals for five tracks and handles guitars, and on the first 8 cuts Eric Robert is on keys, Doug Selbert is on bass, and Alphonso Wesby is on drums. Jesse Duende is on guitar on the first four tracks, Bill Gillman is on upright bass for the final track and Grady Clark is on slide for that last cut, too.

“Hard Run” starts things off. Goluban gets some dirty harp going and Marsh lays out some good licks and the piano adds some cool boogie in there, too. Theres a rocking groove laid down to move things along as the group gets the ball rolling fast with a great opening instrumental. Next is “Rock Dog” with some slightly distorted harp and vocals. This one’s a mover and shaker with a driving beat and sold work by the back line. “Up Is Down” has some boogie woogie piano and gritty vocals. Lots of solo harp here in another driving song.

“Bad Choice Makes Good Sense” follows with a lesser, more thoughtful pace. Marsh sings emotively and Goluban adds a tasteful solo as does Marsh right after it. Then it’s “Hip Hop Shake” where the bass and drums get it rolling and Tommy’s guitar then lays out a boogie over them until the Little Pigeon’s harp comes in as the final layer. Some piano is then added before the harp takes charge and leads the instrumental onslaught. Harp and piano solo for us to savor; pretty cool stuff. “Hard Candy” features guitar and harp as Marsh sings about a woman who is hard candy. Piano tinkles, a little slide on the guitar neck for fun for a jumping slick track.

“Keep On Moving On” has more greasy harp, some nice organ helping out and Goluban’s gritty vocals. Up next is “Life Is Good” a slower paced number with Marsh singing and and Goluban responding on harp. Robert does a nice solo and then Marsh adds a good one of his own. Goluban takes us home on harp with a prolonged outro. “There Is A Train” completes the album with a 6 plus minute acoustic cut with lap steel added by Marsh for fun. Slow and cool, with the acoustic sounds, harp and steel guitar giving us a dirty and imaginative sound. /Steve Jones, Blues Blast Magazine

One of the treasured benefits of traveling the world playing music is that you accumulate a wide circle of friends, like minded souls and collaborators on your journey. Croatian blues singer, songwriter and harmonica player, band leader, blues educator, radio DJ, festival organizer and recording artist, the inexhaustible Tomislav (Tomi) Goluban celebrates his two decades as a performer by bringing some of those friends together for his 14 th studio album, 20 Years On The Road.

The music was recorded live in the studio using three different sets of musicians in Croatia and Austria along with eight international guest vocalists contributing to the originals from Goluban’s catalog, plus a new instrumental, one beloved cover and Goluban’s theme song. "This is my 'best of' album after 20 years in the business. I'm so pleased to have such tremendous guest singers, mainly from my Blue Heart/Nola Blue/Blind Raccoon family, with whom I've collaborated the last few years," says Goluban.

The Tobacco Road Blues Band steps up to help Goluban kick off the party with a ripping instrumental “Express Ride,” featuring the dual guitar attack from Peter Prammerdorfer and Mike Diwald that bolsters Tomi’s heavy duty blues harmonica wail. Goluban confesses his addiction to the blues on the lighthearted “Blow Junkie Boogie,” revisiting the title track of his sixth album and unofficial theme song. Naturally, he picked Chicago Blues scion, Skylar Rogers, to trade call and response choruses with him on the he-done-me-wrong blues “Searchin’ For My Baby,” from his Chicago Rambler album. Charismatic frontman and soulful guitarist, Mark Cameron, beckons us to the dance floor in “Party Time Blues,” from the Memphis Light album that features great slide guitar from Hrvoje Funda. British vocalist, Malaya Blue, demonstrates her range on the contemplative Delta Blues highbred “Electric Lights,” on which Goluban credits Robert Johnson with a portion of the lyrics.

The velvet baritone of Ryan Donohue tells the tale of a man trying to avoid trouble on the western swing number, “No Means No,” with a big band arrangement. Southern California singer songwriter Kelly Zirbes and Goluban picked up right where they left off on his last album collaborating on two more songs for this project; first the easy-going celebration of the vagabond life “Hittin’ The Road Again,” and then later in the album the politically charged plea for peace “Everyday’s Fear.” Swamp pop king Gregg “Mac Daddy” Martinez tantalizes with his smooth tenor on the slinky rhumba “Disappear For Good,” another great song from the Memphis Light album.

The Lone Star state lilt of the great Teresa James was a perfect choice to revamp “Speedin’ Train,” by adding more fuel to the furnace of the fast-moving train beat blues. Crooked Eye Tommy throws down whiskey-soaked vocals on the snappy double shuffle “I Can't Take It Anymore.” Rogers returns for the sweet remake of the swinging jump blues anthem “Forhill’s Boogie,” written for the Zagorje Blues Ethno Festival Goluban co-founded in 2014. Cameron also comes back to revamp the first single from 2016’s Blow Junkie album, “Gambler’s Blues,” with a little more muscle. Goluban and the Tobacco Road Blues Band close out the set running down a joyful rendition of “I Love You Baby,” from Sonny Terry, paying tribute to one of his early heroes and inspirations to become a harmonica wielding blues man.

Revisiting some of his favorite songs with new and old friends highlights Goluban’s many talents and confirms his mantra of "think globally - act locally.” ~Rick J Bowen

Goluban traveled to Memphis to compete in the International Blues Challenge.in both 2009 and 2017. Goluban has also played in over twenty European countries and at Norway’s prestigious Notodden Blues Festival. Goluban has founded a blues festival in his hometown, educates students with a “Blues in The Schools” program, and hosts his own radio show.

In 2019 Goluban traveled to Chicago and recorded his tenth album “Chicago Rambler” He followed in 2020 with “Memphis Light” recorded at the Ardent studios in Memphis. He recently returned to the Ardent studios to record his latest album. Co-produced with Jeff Jensen the album features an impressive band. Goluban, harp and vocals is joined by guitarist Jensen; keyboardist Rick Steff, and the rhythm section of Bill Rufino, bass; and David Green, drums. The album features nine originals including three instrumentals. Goluban opens with the title track, the first of the three, and one realizes he is a fully mature Chicago blues harp disciple. The second instrumental is a shuffle, “Extra Boom”, that pays tribute to Chess’ Records “Little Walter”. On the last instrumental “Beast Walk” Goluban pays tribute to the legendary Sonny Terry.
The horns of Franklin and Smothers are featured on the Butterfield inspired “Used To Be Someone” The horns are again featured on the driving plea for peace and social justice “No Future In Your Past”.

Goluban hands over the lead vocal to Zirbes on “Shoestring Blues” and on the Professor Longhair inspired Louisiana Rhumba “Seeds in their Bag”. Other highlights include the Muddy Waters inspired “Babe On The Run”; the humorous country blues “Bite Me Like A Snake” featuring backing vocalist Franher; and a country styled cover of The Velvet Underground’s “Pale Blue Eyes” featuring Johnson on slide.

Croatian Goluban has learned his lessons well as he continues to impress on this fabulous follow-up. ~Richard Ludmerer

The Blues may well have originated in the southern states of the USA, but today we all live in the modern world and the same issues effect our lives, day in day out. Because right now the blues is global, it doesn’t matter whether the music is created in Louisiana, London, Dublin or Zagreb – where Be Sharp Band is based. It doesn’t matter at all, the only thing that matters is the music. If the music is performed with passion, energy, and belief – that’s all you need. We simply get it, we identify with the songs, the music and most important of all – the lyrics.

Be Sharp Band has been blazing a trail in the blues world as of late. The songs on this album were created between the guitar player and the vocal of the band – Nenad Maderic and Marija Gašparic with the intention of entering the “Croatian Blues Challenge” in 2017, as a duo named Two Blue. Which not only did they enter and win their local heat, but went on to represent their country (Croatia) in the “34th International Blues Challenge” in Memphis, Tennessee. So as you can see these songs have already been impressing fans all over the blues world. Upon their return to Zagreb, the whole band starts to work on the songs, especially the author of the arrangements – Hrvoje Kaucic. Some time later the band got a new drummer – Robert Jurcec, and a keyboard player – Tomislav Ocvirek, that also put a valuable input with skills on their instruments.

Personnel: Marija Gašparic (vocals); Nenad "Kljus" Maderic (guitar); Hrvoje "Chaos" Kaucic (bass); Tomislav Ocvirek (keyboards); Igor "Iggy" Balent (drums). Guest artists: Krešo "Sonnyboy" Oremuš (harmonica); Iva Jelic (backing vocals); Niko Radas (percussion).

Tomislav Goluban & Little Pigeon’s ForHill Blues is an acoustic project that was formed in December of 2001 out of Tomislav Goluban’s (Little Pigeon) desire to revive Croatia’s country/delta blues roots. Although in the beginning strictly acoustic instruments were used, the possibilities of electrification added a new dimension into this still primarily “acoustic” trio. The group is today made up of three musicians, all from Zabok, which is located in the heart of Croatia’s Zagorje and therefore the group’s name is a translated word play taken from Tomy’s last name (Goluban - Pigeon) and the region fom which they come.

Behind them is one studio recorded album (Pigeon’s Flight, 2005) and an abundance of concerts. The repertoire of Little Pigeon’s ForHill Blues is based on country blues, zydeco, ragtime, gospel but it uses as well rhythms of classic rock and funk in combination with zagorski’s ethno elements. In three words, cheerful, positive and original.

BLUES IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD is a live band. The 5 musicians from Germany, Romania and Croatia don't cover any songs. In the tradition of the 60s and 70s, the songs are interpreted and rearranged in such a way that an authentic and completely new sound is created. A program of newly arranged classics and own songs is then brought on stage. With this mixture the fun of listening is pre-programmed. Andrada's "Romanian Energy" is guaranteed to leave no audience untouched.

After 20 years of intense study of one of America’s greatest artforms from afar in his homeland, Croatia, singer songwriter and harmonica master, Tomislav “Little Pigeon” Goluban made a journey to the source to record an album of authentic blues music in the Windy City for his tenth studio album, “Chicago Rambler.” Goluban enlisted the skills of prominent figures in the Chicago blues scene, led by acclaimed producer and guitarist Eric Noden to collaborate with him on 11 new songs written for the project. A year ago, Tomislav flew to Chicago to record at Joy Ride Studios. Noden wisely brought in two “Sons of the Blues” as the rhythm section; E.G. McDaniel on bass and Kenny “Beedy Eyes” Smith on drums, both building prestigious careers for themselves while preserving their musical heritage. Harmonica man Joe Filisko also contributed to the project by playing harmonica on two songs, and engineer Blaise Burton manned the console for the frenetic two-day session.

The full tilt ‘Pigeon Swing’ kicks off the album with much pizzazz, as Goluban blows like Little Walter resurrected on an instrumental that was supposed to be a bonus track but has so much fire it was pushed to the lead-off slot. The 12/8 blues ‘Locked Heart’ reveals the influence of Jimmy Reed and Slim Harpo on the timeless tale of a soft-hearted bluesman. The heavy-duty south side shuffle, ‘Bag Full Of Troubles,’ is a spot-on Chicago-land prototype that could only be delivered by seasoned pros. Inspired by the friendship between Goluban and the late country bluesman “Philadelphia” Jerry Ricks, the tasty rhumba, ‘Jerry Ricks On My Mind,’ recants images from the last concert he performed alongside Goluban before his untimely death in 2007. He was buried in the cemetery in Kastav (Croatia) where the annual Tribute to Jerry Ricks – Kastav Blues festival is now held.

Noden’s slide guitar moans with sorrow of a hundred-year flood on the lowdown ‘Can’t Find Myself’ and Smith demonstrates his encyclopedic knowledge of authentic blues grooves as he nails the high energy boogaloo surf blues for the audacious ‘Home Made Honey’ and classic Bo Diddley beat for ‘Do The Right Thing.’ Between those two numbers, Goluban’s fantastic harmonica imitation of a train, an old-time tradition among harp players, introduces ‘One Way Ticket,’ a traveling blues ramble. He lays out a twist on a Muddy Waters’ style blues with ‘Little Pigeon’ extolling his manly prowess to arouse a lover. Track ten is an acoustic version of ‘Jerry Ricks On My Mind.’ The quartet glides thru the Jimmy Reed style country blues ‘Searchin’ For My Baby,’ before transforming a traditional Croatia folk song ‘Išel budem v kleticu (I’ll Go To My Cottage)’ into a straight-ahead Chi-town shuffle from a hot Saturday night at the Peppermint Lounge.

With this album Tomislav Goluban fulfills his dream of wandering the musical streets of the city that gave birth to so many of his heroes and becoming a bona fide Chicago rambler. ~Rick J Bowen

13. Baby, How Long (3:06)

It is by now already a fact that a release on the Rhythm Bomb label is a guarantee for a high-quality album that is full of swinging rhythm & blues or rockabilly. And that is again the case with the new, third, album by Croatian band Billie And The Kids. In their case it is an album on which the 50's rhythm & blues and jump blues are central.
The band from Zagreb consists of Ana (Billie) Klabucar (vocals), Jurica Stelma (double bass), Andrej Henigman (baritone saxophone), Berislav Antica (piano), Branimir Njikos (drums), Jerko Valdevit (tenor saxophone), Ozron Znidaric (tenor saxophone) and Axel Praefcke (guitar). A good horn section, which provides the album with a very warm, almost creamy swinging sound. Singer Ana is very positive because of her raw, bluesy vocals, which reminds Etta James more than once.

The album will be opened by moody winds in I Will not Be Your Fool, which continues as a funky rhythm & blues song with almost growling raw vocals from Ana and biting bluesy guitar work. Who's The One That Stole Your Heart is a lazy long-awaited rhythm & blueshuffle in which Ana begs for love. A warm bopping bass keeps the swing in this song which also includes a jazzy piano and guitar solo. Ana screams in the steamy jump blues of He Can Rock. A song with a Little Richard-like wildness, grunting sax solo and piercing guitar work. In the languid pumping shuffle You Is not Pleasing Me from Ana growling her dissatisfaction. The band does its utmost to please her, solid pumping.
Another Love is a sultry rhythm & blues sharpener with warm wind instruments, bluesy guitar and Ana's soulful, powerful voice with that ever-present scream. In Same Thing the band goes on the angular swinging New Orleans tour with pumping horns, rocking piano and fierce raw vocals. Horror Movie starts like a lazy shuffle until a steamy acceleration is used in the chorus.
Love Me Tonight is a special kind of rhythm & blues rhumba. Try dancing to this without having to stand on your partner's toes! A kind of hop-step jump rhythm & blues! With a title like He's Gone, you can not escape a ballad full of soul pain. And that comes to you in an angular jazzy ballad that is sung with emotion full of Ana.
After the sweltering If Lovin 'Is Believin' the album is closed in a bluesy manner with the razor-sharp shuffle Baby, How Long.

Billie And the Kids are able to create an authentic sounding 50's sound without sounding old-fashioned.

Voodoo Ramble is a power blues band and such is the music of the band. There are some root blues moments but the sound is more defined and maybe a bit harder than a standard blues. The lyrics are more contemporary (well we're not pickin' cotton anymore :) ), and the listener can find a song for him(her)self very easy. Some melodic moments are also there and a really powerful rhytm section by Samuel & Mario. Also some great guitar moments and solos by Zamba who wrote entire material for the band.I hope you gonna enjoy the album and give some support to the band through social media etc. Enjoy!

Sunnysiders is a name filled with inherent irony for a blues band. A self-described “Croatian Blues Attraction”, Sunnysiders hail from Zagreb. They won the Croatian Blues Challenge in 2010. They were semi-finalists at the International Blues Challenge, Memphis 2011 and the European Blues Challenge, Toulouse 2012. This album Click Play is their 3rd. They have opened for Serbian neighbor and major blues star, Ana Popovic; Johnny Winter; and Floridian resonator virtuoso Eric Sardinas.

Hrepa (Boris Hrepić) is the leader on acoustic guitar, vocals and harmonica. Dedication and devotion are the messages here. Ro La (Antonia Vrgoč) has a versatile voice roaming from rock to blues to country as needed. She is the heart of the band and handles lead vocals which are often doubled by buried; echoed or call and response with Hrepa’s whispered growl. Hans (Goran Gubić), electric guitar, helms all the excursions from the darker side of the street with abundant fuzz, overdrive and tasteful leads. Šparka (Igor Paradiš) drops the beat into the tunes as many of these songs start off acoustically. Once unleashed, he can boogie, swing or stomp, without ever getting in the song’s way. They are pros and it shows.

'Blues De Ville' is the debut album of the Vorih Blues Band, led by bassist, singer and composer Dubravko Vorih who is also the author of all texts and music on the album. The album contains 12 original compositions in English and is dedicated to 'Zaprudanska blues school' from which Vorih came. Even the front picture on the album is a homage to the pioneers of blues, and as Vorih calls them, his first idols.

Although this is the first album from the Vorih Blues Band, D. Vorih has already had many musical projects. With the band 'New Tribe' he released a few albums: "Mr. Clean", "Catwalk" and last year released the album "Two Faces of Jazz and Soul". Dubravko Vorih Quintet also published the CD "Live Sax", and due to that, he is now a permanent member of Prljavo kazalište (The Dirty Theatre).

With Vorih as bassist and vocalist, Vorih Blues Band consists of Jurica Leikauff, piano, also a member of The Dirty Theatre; guitarist John Veljaca, whose musical roots come from the 'delta blues' style that has the most influence on Vorih Blues Band, as are Muddy Waters and Johnny Winter; drummer Mark Rabatic, who played on the album, replaced in the band by Dražen Scholz, Vorih's longtime friend and associate.

TOMISLAV GOLUBAN
Croatian blues musician, composer, harmonica player and a singer, is quite unique by his expression. With his passion, sense of humor and catchy appearance, he can really afford your audience an interesting and original show.
He’s been playing his harp since 1997, inspired by masters like Sonny Terry, Gary Primich or Joe Filisko, just to name a few whom he still admires today. Performing solo/duo or with a band, he played in the USA (25th IBC, Memphis, TN) and in Europe in 18 countries. Here are just a few events he took part: Notodden Blues Festival (Norway), Amal’s Blues Festival (Sweden) and Blues sur Seine (France). His 6th studio album “Blow Junkie” (2014), debuted at #49 on Roots Music Chart.

NEBOJŠA BUHIN ‘NEBO’
Born in Bjelovar, Croatia, where he lives today, Nebo started playing guitar at age 13., without formal musical education, influenced by the blues (E. Clapton, R. Ford, R. Cray, SRV), pop-rock- jazzy (Stelly Dan, Dire Straits, Tom Waits) and more guitar oriented records (Al Di Meola, M. Landau) from 70’s/ 80’s. Nebo works as a studio and session musician in Croatia. He released 6 instrumental albums. His music is described as a mixture of pop-rock with bluesy and jazzy flavours and strong melody.
Nebo has performed in front of some great guitar players - Johnny Winter, Greg Koch,... With his band he performed at International blues challenge (IBC) in Memphis (USA) in January 2010.

D-Tale consists of experienced professionals in the music world and some members often encountered in another band. Take Patrick Cuijvers, I think one, if not the best Hammond player from Belgium; Mario Pesic, born in Croatia, raised in America and now living in Antwerp on vocals and guitar, Steve Wouters on drums, Eric Welsh on bass guitar (Eric Breda his own music).

All have their already proven in many other bands, including Last Call, Camden, Bass Pappa etc. But now therefore in D-Tale, who has been with this occupation already a big boost to the Hazard Catalog festival this year, where they are a great performance did and put the small tent upside down.

Unfortunately, the three winners have no studio recordings, but the fact that nine winners after returning from Memphis filmed officially announced their studio album speaks for itself. Jukebox Daddy is the superb second album from Billie & The Kids, one of today's best Jump Rhythm & Blues combos. Billie & the Kids don’t come from New Orleans but from Zagreb, Croatia and Jukebox Daddy has not been recorded for Savoy or Modern in the fifties but for Rhythm Bomb in 2013. These boys (piano, guitar, double bass, drums and three saxes as well as a couple of guests) and girl nailed the sound of their favourite records (Etta James, Ruth Brown, Varetta Dillard) perfectly and make it sound natural. It’s due to their musicianship and ease, but mostly to their ten originals penned by Jurica Stelma, the band’s bassist that include ballads, boppers, jumpers and some latin too.

Note: This edition is the 12-track US release. The European edition has 17 tracks.
