"Maximum Rock 'n' Roll" is the name of the Dutch tour that Saint Jude, a female fronted UK band, is doing right now in order to promote their debut album "Diary of a Soul Friend". They couldn't have choosen a better name. This album, filled with 10 self-written tracks, is raw, powerful and passionate! Saint Jude is described by legendary Rolling Stones producer Chris Kimsey as a "Modern day Janis Joplin fronting the Faces". I would like to add some names so you know what you can expect if you want to hear/buy this album: Led Zeppelin, Sass Jordan, Black Crowes and... the Rolling Stones! So it may not sound as a surprise that Ron Wood joins Saint Jude on stage on a regular base. He even provided some guitar parts to this album.

The album starts with "Soul on Fire", a kick-ass rock 'n' roll song. On this track vocalist Lynne Jackaman sounds just like the Canadian female singer Sass Jordan... raw and powerful, a great song! Second track is the first single "Garden of Eden", an upbeat tune with slide guitar by Ron Wood and ending with a dirty guitar solo by Adam Greene. It's not only Ron Wood who gives you that typical Stones' feeling. The album is produced by Chris Kemsey who worked with Mick Jagger & friends before. Next is the rocker "Little Queen" a track in the Faces' style. Another of my favorite tracks is the passionate, unpolished ballad "Angel" which is followed by another quiet moment "Rivers and Streams". The album ends with the powerful rock tracks "Parallel Life" and "Southern Belles".

If you are into bands like I mentioned before this album is a must-have. Although you hear the band is influenced by several big names they managed to have their own sound. Of course Lynne Jackman has a great voice and will get a lot of attention, but I think the whole band sounds very talented. I am going to catch them on one of their Dutch tourdates. Let's see if they can also catch me live on stage with their passionate 70's influenced kick-ass rock 'n' roll... ~Lazy Rocker
