Little Bit of Blues, Little Bit of Rock 'n' Roll! That's right, and together they are more than the sum of their parts!!! Blues-based swing from the Doobie Twisters in Tampere became familiar to those in the industry back in the 1980s. The Rissanen brothers Jarmo (guitar, harmonica and vocals) and Aarno (bass), who moved from Lahti, had previously toured with gigs such as The Road and Full House. An EP was also released for the Blues News label. However, in the name of Doobie Twisters, doors began to open more widely among the bailout people.
The band built their work with their excellent live performances. In 1989, Rissanen and Timo Hautamäki (guitar, vocals) and Ari Pensomaa (drums) recorded a single for All I Want/Find Out on Bluelight Records. A beautiful slovak on the a-side would shoot the top of the local radio playlist, while the b-side would showcase the rock 'n' roll. Doobie Twisters released their first album a couple of years later. Rocket Pocket, a long-standing play, introduced the band to the brink of style. It included basic blues as well as soul and sheer rock.
An interesting side story to the band's story was brought by Woody Garrett, a young black-skinned natural talent playing while playing at Austin's South-By-Southwest. The soulful singer was offered a trip to Finland, and to the surprise of all this was accomplished. With Garrett, the twisters threw in four hilarious, successful Finnish rounds, most of which included sold out gigs. There were also two great collaborative albums with Woody.
In the 90s, Doobie Twisters did the aforementioned couple of weeks in addition to the Austin, Texas tour, and in -97 a three-week tour in Toronto, Canada. They also toured in Sweden and Estonia, and also toured several times across Finland. The latest Doobie Twisters recording so far is Black Or White, released in 1998. (Translated from Finnish.)
