Gerald Clark's 'Sweepslag' album takes Afrikaans music to somewhere it has never been before. Delving deep into into both his musical and linguistic roots, Gerald showcases his reworking of ID du Plessis' poem of haunting love, 'Rietfontein se Leidam'. Also included on this album are foot-stomping roots blues numbers such as 'As Ek Kon', with Gerald's howling slide guitar work given prominence for the first time. Classic folk rock tunes such as 'Sweepslag' and 'Elandsbaai' are instantly memorable, signalling the young bluesman's coming of age on an album which shows remarkable songwriting depth.

'Sweepslag' was nominated as the best Alternative Afrikaans Album at the 2009 South African Musicians (SAMA) awards.
