Absolutely love the amazing music they put out. Studio or live, they’re a powerhouse. I listen to them every time I go cycling and it really keeps me pumped. Their timing, syncopation, & wonderful solos are fantastic. Even the occasional cover never sounds like a cover because they make it their own, in style and composition. Can’t say enough about them. You will not be disappointed, check them out!

The Lachy Doley Group - Make Or Break

Year: 2019
Bitrate: MP3@320K/s
Time: 50:34
Size: 116,7 MB
Styles: Blues/Rock/Soul mix
Scans: Front

1. A Woman (4:02)
2. Cruel Cruel World (3:53)
3. The Greatest Blues (5:04)
4. The Strut (4:16)
5. Give It (But You Just Can’t Take It) (5:50)
6. Into The Alone (5:39)
7. Make Or Break (6:06)
8. Mix Tape (4:01)
9. The Killer (5:42)
10. Can't Get Close To You (5:59)

Following on from 2017’s previous release ‘Lovelight’, ‘Make or Break’ is the fifth album under The Lachy Doley Group banner, with Lachy once again joined by drumming powerhouse Jackie Barnes as well as Joel Burton on bass. I’m happy to report that the same pent up energy & passion I saw that night at The Concert Hall in Perth, has been captured on this album, with a superb collection of ten funk, soul, blues & rock filled tracks. From the breathtaking opening song of ‘A Woman’ you are immediately transfixed by Doley’s outstanding keyboard work, as his rare Hohner D6 Whammy Clavinet completely mimics the sounds of an electric guitar. In fact, I spent five minutes looking on the album cover to see who the guest guitarists were and it was only until I saw a vid clip recently that I was finally convinced it really was Lachy on his magical whammy clav.

Some of the bluesier tracks also suck you into to believing your hearing guitar work from some of the finest in the business, but these too are Lachy and this is what adds an extra dimension and appreciation to the album. Funky 70’s style songs like ‘The Strut’ ‘The Killer’ & ‘Cruel Cruel World’ have you moving & grooving along before you’re taken deeper into some wonderful blues with tracks like ‘Can’t Get Close to You’ with its ‘Little Help From my Friends’ riff & feel, ‘Into The Alone’ & ‘The Greatest Blues’. Doley’s vocals work perfectly with everything he’s created throughout the album, along with his underlying Hammond organ work throughout and is backed up with fantastic rhythm work from both Barnes & Burton.

The word genius is usually reserved for those pioneers who have, at times changed the course of history one way or another by leaving an imprint on the world but when someone can produce music of this incredibly high standard and also tinker & experiment for our listening pleasure then Lachy Doley deserves to receive that accolade. ‘Make or Break’ is a stroke of genius by a master craftsman at the top of his game. Wonderful! The album was produced by Lachy and Kieran Collings, recorded by Ted Howard (Yothu Yindi, Paul Kelly, Kasey Chambers), mixed by Paul McKercher (Josh Pyke, Papa Vs Pretty, Sarah Blasko, You Am I, Eskimo Joe), and was mastered by the Grammy Award-winning Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, Ray LaMontagne, Royal Blood, Biffo Clyro).

Lachy Doley is Australia’s most celebrated Blues Rock Organ Player. He’s been dubbed the Jimi Hendrix of the Hammond Organ, a player who can pump, pamper and occasionally pound the most unbelievable sounds from a keyboard: sounds that are intense, ferocious and sometimes transcendent.

Lachy Doley has seen much of the world, recording and touring with acts as diverse as Powderfinger, Glenn Hughes, Steve Vai, Jimmy Barnes, The Beautiful Girls – more recently recording on a new album of Joe Bonamassa’s coming out in 2015. It was 2010 though, that saw the birth of THE LACHY DOLEY GROUP and they have been heavily recording and touring ever since.

The group’s second album “Singer Organ Soul” and debut DVD “Live at 303” are some tasty slices of what the band sounds like live – pumping with energy and good times, and featuring both Lachy’s 1957 Hammond C3 organ and his custom-modified Hohner Whammy Clavinet – the only such machine in Australia.

The Lachy Doley Group have played over 100 shows and festivals around Australia since the first release in 2011 including Queenscliff Music Festival, Mojo Burning Festival, Rock In The Vines Festival, PEAK Perisher Festival and have been the stand out hit at the Gold Coast’s Blues On Broadbeach Festival for the last 3 years running.

Lachy’s international profile has been steadily growing since he was headhunted by Deep Purple’s Glenn Hughes, Steve Vai and Chad Smith to record a new version of “Highway Star” – a project designed as a tribute to Deep Purple’s legendary organ player Jon Lord who had recently passed. Adding further fuel to the fire, recently recording with Joe Bonamassa and becoming recognised as one of only two internationally acclaimed Whammy Clavinet players in the world.
