Brilleaux - Eight Track Style

Album: Eight Track Style
Size: 99,5 MB
Time: 43:08
File: MP3 @ 320K/s
Released: 2005
Styles: Rock/R&B mix
Art: Front

1. Get Over Yourself (4:59)
2. I Am (6:34)
3. Bundle Of Joy (4:03)
4. Beat The Bastards Back (4:40)
5. You're Going Home In An Ambulance (5:23)
6. Hitman (3:46)
7. Roadtest Ronnie (5:10)
8. POD Till Ya Drop (8:30)

Here are Brilleaux exploring some different area’s and experimenting with the rhythm ’n’ blues style. Featuring photos of some of lead singer Graham Clarks collection of wonderful 8 track tape players, the album still rocks hard and has all the usual Brilleaux trappings - driving guitars, powerful harmonica playing and the driving rhythm section of Ian Gilpin and Brian Franks.

Brilleaux is a high-energy, hard driving, British-style rhythm and blues band from New Zealand in the style of bands such as Dr Feelgood, Wilko Johnson, and Nine Below Zero, and in a similar vein to earlier exponents of the genre such as The Yardbirds, Early Rolling Stones, and Johnny Kid and the Pirates. A typical set by Brilleaux consists of a mixture of British R&B classics and exciting original material that these masters of rhythm and blues have been performing at festivals around the country since 1999. There is nobody in New Zealand playing rhythm and blues like these guys!

Personnel: Graham Clark (vocals, harmonica, guitar, theremin, melodica); Bruce Rolands (guitar); Ian 'Beano' Gilpin (drums, backing vocals); Brian Franks (bass). Guests: Ritchie Pickett (piano); Jessie & Georgina Matthews, Rene Simon (background vocals); Paul Sanders (trombone); Mitch Pikimaui (saxophone); Tahu Pikimaui (trumpet); Geoff The Scotsman (Scottish voice).

Brilleaux currently have 7 albums to their credit, with number 8 due for release some time late in 2014.

A typical set by Brilleaux consists of a mixture of British R&B Classics and exciting original material that these masters of Rhythm and Blues have been performing at festivals around the country since 1999.

There is nobody in New Zealand playing Rhythm and Blues like these guys!

It is unique, refreshing and extremely lively. If you are looking for slow, cruisey, renditions of old blues classics then you have got the wrong band! These guys go from 0-100 mph in the first set!

Brilleaux have proven themselves to be a very welcome and fresh addition to all the festivals throughout New Zealand as their musical sound and style is very different to the usual Texas, Chicago or traditional style American variations of the genre.

Brilleaux are a highly visual and exciting band to see live, and deliver an energetic show guaranteed to be one of the more memorable acts of any festival.

Brilleaux completed a 9 date tour of the UK in 2013 including venues on The Isle of Wight, Portsmouth, Brighton, Oxford Leicester and Bedford, and were invited by all the venues to "Return ASAP" Consequently a tour of the UK in 2015 is currently being booked.

[5:48] 12. She's A Tee's

After the more modern and experimental efforts on Eight-Track Style, this album has dragged Brilleaux kicking and screaming back to their roots of hard, driving rhythm and Blues. This album is a studio masterpiece, and the soundscape Tim has created on many of the songs is stunning. This album has a strong piano and keyboard influenced, standing it apart from all preceeding recordings.

There is much creative work going on in all the songs from foot stompin, hand clapping, yelling and carryin-on, the odd temper tantrum, not to mention the creative lengths Tim has gone to to record various instruments. This album also features a 3-piece horn section, and 3 female singers.

[3:21] 12. How Can It Be

Brilleauvator is an unplugged acoustic adventure, featuring a list of songs from a diverse range of artists that inspired the formation of Brilleaux back in 1999. This is what I describe as a "sit down, shut up, and listen" album as opposed to the usual Brilleaux "get up and dance" kind of album.

Not everything is blues, Not everything is British, and Not everything is original, but it still has a certain Brilleauxness about it, and it does include a couple of previously unrecorded Brilleaux originals that fit the unplugged genre.

Graham Clark: Vocals, Harmonica, Rhythm Guitar; Bruce Rolands: Guitars; Ian Gilpin: Drums and BV’s; Brian Franks: Bass Guitar.

When we were offered the opportunity to record this live show, we almost gave it a miss as we already had a live album, and were in the process of making plans for a new studio album. However, at the last minute we thought “what the hell” and did it anyway, more as an opportunity to roadtest a few new songs before we took them to the studio. Following the precedent set by our previous live album, this recording also features 3 previously unrecorded, unreleased tracks which we anticipate appearing on our forthcoming studio album.

A powerful, no-holds-barred set of high-energy rhythm and blues, comprising of 5 Brilleaux originals and 5 British R&B classics, in the kind of show Brilleaux fans have come to know and enjoy. What you hear on this album is an unadulterated 100 percent live recording of the evening’s proceedings.
