Wayne Nicholson has long been considered one of Atlantic Canada’s greatest blues-rock vocalists, often compared to legendary vocalists such as Paul Rodgers, Jim Morrison and David Clayton-Thomas. Having grown up with the sounds of early jazz & blues music (Bessie Smith, Robert Johnson and Louis Armstrong) and evolved into a musician of his own with the strong influences of Elvis, Chuck Berry, Beatles, Stones, Yardbirds and Bob Dylan, Wayne Nicholson developed a very unique understanding of music.

With a career spanning 50 years, Nicholson recorded and released eight albums and has toured with artists such as Ike & Tina Turner, Gregg Allman, James Cotton, J Geils Band, Jeff Healey, and more. Nicholson is also a past winner of the East Coast Music Awards Stompin' Tom Award, given to performers who have made a mark in the music scene of Atlantic Canada and who are perceived as unsung heroes.

Combining his outstanding guitar work & powerful songwriting, John Campbelljohn is a multiple award winner that includes wins and nominations for Maple Blues Awards, East Coast Music Awards, Real Blues Awards, Music Nova Scotia Entertainer Of The Year, Blues Recording Of The Year & Musician Of The Year.

An incredible force on the Canadian music scene, Campbelljohn’s outstanding guitar work, powerful songwriting, rich vocals and distinctive prowess on the slide guitar have made him a favourite at music festivals in Atlantic Canada & Europe. He’s recorded and released 14 albums and has been featured on numerous others throughout his career.

Together, Nicholson and Campbelljohn have curated and recorded a masterful tribute to legendary bluesman, Elmore James. John Campbelljohn recalls the beginnings of the project “Wayne called me up and said, John, I've got an idea. We need to talk. I want to do an album of Elmore James songs and you are the slide guy! I said Wayne you've got one of the biggest blues rock voices to ever come out of the Maritimes. I'm in!”

Elmore’s Blues is a fresh and brilliant tribute to the slide master featuring 12 of Elmore’s greatest released songs and two originals, “Wayne and I have been songwriters all our musical lives so it made sense to include a couple of originals”, says Campbelljohn. “We hope you enjoy If I Was Blue and Dancin' With The Blues."

Myles Goodwyn has been busy: celebrating the 50th Anniversary of his band April Wine at the Ex in August, an appearance with his blues band at the Southside Shuffle and now with the release of his second blues album. Friends of the Blues 2 does carry on from the first volume in format with a star-filled list of Friends but has even better songs than that JUNO-nominated album. Most of the songs feature Russ Billard on keys, JR Smith on drums and Bruce Dixon on bass. They supply excellent support for Goodwyn and his cast of Friends. Special mention should be made of Reeny Smith and Lisa MacDougall as these two wonderful singers supply background vocals on many of the songs. The opener is a rocking delight: in “Hip Hip”, Goodwyn recalls his introduction to the blues travelling through the states as a young man, name checking Buddy Guy and with an absolutely superb piano part played by Kenny “Blues Boss” Wayne. A creative arrangement graces the Womack’s “All Over Now”, making it rather different from the Stones’ version you might remember. This one has a solid harp solo from Mike “Shrimp Daddy” Reid who hasn’t been heard from much since his move to the east. “You Got it Bad” channels Sonny and Brownie in a well-sung leaving song featuring Matt Andersen on acoustic guitar and Dewey Reeds on harmonica. “Fish Tank Blues” is built on an especially raunchy slide guitar part by Halifax guitarist Will Van Hansolo but little else. “Daddy Needs New Shoes” is a great little rocker featuring Jack Semple on guitar and John Campbelljohn on slide – Daddy is sending the wife out to work. “Being Good” starts with a slow introduction by Angel Forrest before the band kicks in with Goodwyn’s verse. Angel returns and Martin Davidson gets a nice sax solo – a marvelous duet performance. “I Love my Guitar” is exactly what it says: no guests, just Goodwyn celebrating and playing. His romping “Help Me Baby”, is a jump blues that features Joe Murphy on harp and Bill Stevenson on piano, Montreal’s Steve Segal solos on electric guitar. The acoustic “When Your Ship Came In (I Was at the Airport Drinking) features Jack de Keyzer on bottleneck and Sherman Doucette on harmonica – our narrator has a problem. “I Saw Someone That Wasn’t There (And it Was You)” has David Gogo as the featured lead guitarist – his partner is long gone but not for him. Goodwyn’s Friends all contribute to making topflight albums for you to listen to at home but the fine players from the Maritimes he brings with him for live shows are special too. ~John's Blues Picks

Born 1955 in Sydney, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia, Canadian singer/slide guitarist/songwriter John Campbelljohn is a multiple award winner.

As a young teenager, John took up the guitar and studied blues masters like Fred McDowell, Robert Johnson & BB King, while at the same time was swept up by the “British Invasion” of The Beatles and Rolling Stones. Soon the distinctive sound of the slide guitar captivated him and he turned his attention to artists such as Duane Allman & Ry Cooder followed by the “behind the slide” technique of Sonny Landreth. Eventually he put together a combo, toured relentlessly throughout Canada winning numerous awards and landing international record deals in Europe.

During his career John has been featured on recordings and live shows that include names like Sting, Joni Mitchell, Emmy Lou Harris, Leonard Cohen, Joe Ely, Willie Nelson, Robben Ford & Alvin Lee (Ten Years After) as well as TV productions by Sony Music Entertainment and Showtime Network. Rich vocals and distinctive prowess on the slide guitar has made him a favourite at music festivals in eastern Canada & Europe.

Rolling Stone Germany says, “The string magic of the front man fascinates!” Blues News Germany says, “What applied to Neil Young or Joni Mitchell in former times, now applies to John Campbelljohn.” Blues Revue USA deemed him a “guitar-god-in-the-making”. John has won or been nominated for countless music awards including Maple Blues Awards, East Coast Music Awards, Real Blues Awards, Music Nova Scotia Entertainer Of The Year, Blues Recording Of The Year & Musician Of The Year.

Recently German label ZYX Music/Peppercake Records released Land Of The Livin’ - 25 Legendary Tracks Of JC to a steadily growing European fan base. His first solo guitar/vocal recording Celtic Blues Live In Hamburg soon followed combing acoustic slide guitar blues with a nod to the fiddle style that comes with being a Cape Bretoner.

John is both thrilled and humbled to be added to the Jim Dunlop Artist page along side such greats as ZZ Top, Buddy Guy, Eddie Van Halen, Mick Taylor of The Rolling Stones & Ricky Skaggs, just to name a few. Jim Dunlop Guitar Products is the world’s largest distributor and manufacturer of guitar products and accessories.

John’s sophisticated and progressive approach to song writing gives him a distinctive edge, mixing rock, blues, reggae, celtic & country into his signature style. The result is a sound that can pummel the audience into submission one moment, while captivating them with its subtlety the next.

This powerful compelling vocalist can belt out funky blues vocals and also pours the sweetest sultry tones into jazz ballads and swinging dance tunes. She is intriguing to watch live and inspiring to listen to in any medium. Born in Dartmouth Nova Scotia she has taken her music around the world via the internet and radio shows in the US, Germany, Britain, Yugoslavia, Belgium, France and the UK.

Eileen was born into musical family and was exposed to many different types of jazz, blues and classical, and broadway style music in her childhood. The R and B of the sixties and seventies certainly have left stamp in Eileen's life, also. If you listen to her music you can hear this clearly. Eileen's most recent privilege was to sing "Bluesman" at the award ceremony for Dutch Mason 's induction into the Order of Canada, at the Lt. Governors House in Halifax. Eileen Joyce has experience of many facets of the music industry, particularly in her dedicated promotion of the Atlantic Canadian Blues and other artists. She was founder and president of Blues East from 1995-98 which produced two well loved Blues festivals. Although Blues East is no longer active, Eileen co-founded the East Coast Blues Society in 2002 which shares the vision of the original group with the organizational power of an experienced board.

The newest project Bluesman a tribute was brought on by the sad death of one of Nova Scotia's favourite blues men Rick Jeffery, singer and songwriter guitarist, harpist and best known for his many years in Dutch Mason's band. Eileen wrote a song Bluesman, inspired by the life of the bluesmen she knew and, the cd was a labour of love. Eileen invited friends Joe Murphy, Dutch Mason, John Campbelljohn and George Antoniak and Charlie A'court to sing and play duets with her on her tribute to the NS bluesman. Bill Harvey also recorded his song Chocolate Blues for the cd. The cd is rounded out with wonderful songs that Eileen and Bill composed such as Every Shade of Blue an R&B soon to be classic and Why do you Look so Good , a rocking blues tune that is full of fun. Joined once again by a great band Danny Sutherland on bass, Bill Harvey on piano Scott Ferguson on drums, George Antoiniak and Garret Mason on guitar, her daughter Nicole Ouellete and Melanie Donnely on back up vocals and produced at Ferguson Music Production.
