When musicians Ulrich and Sabine Ellison moved to Austin TX in 2007 from their native home Austria, they set foot into a completely new world. “When we arrived here it had 105 degrees outside. The first 10 days we slept in a Motel 6. All we had was three suitcases and our German Shepherd”, explains Ellison. Since then,

Ellison’s style can be described as a mix of Texas-soaked blues rock, a Sting-like pop sensitivity, and a take-no-prisoners live performance style. His virtuoso guitar skills have earned him comparisons to tone wizard Eric Johnson, while his overall vibe may be more reminiscent of an early Johnny Winter. But there is at least one thing that separates him from being just another guitar shredder: a strong catalogue of original songs and a unique sound. “I’m a huge fan of Celtic music and European Folk, and I always draw inspiration from that flavor, no matter what I do.”
That’s what caught the attention of Grooveyard Records label owner, Joe Romagnola: “I have been working with some of the best electric guitarists worldwide for the last 30 years. When I heard Ulrich’s Dreamchaser album, I knew I wanted him on board with us. Great songs, great guitar playing, great vocal performances and a unique, recognizable style make this one of my favorite releases of the year.” The label will start distributing the album in October, with an international network and strong bases in Japan and Central Europe, just in time for the Tribe’s European Fall Tour.

His band “The Tribe” features Texas groove veteran Joel Duhon (Van Wilks, Mason Ruffner) on drums, bass woman and wife Sabine Ellison (Rev Frank TT) and a revolving cast of side members including keyboardist Darrell Commander, accordeonist Jan Flemming and violinists Will Taylor and Bridgid Bibbens.

Ellison’s list of accomplishments also include independently releasing four albums, receiving a Jazz scholarship from the University of Texas at Austin, Fulbright Grant, 2 Master degrees in Music, winning three International Downbeat Awards Blues/Rock/Pop and a 2014 Austin Music Award for #1 Best Blues/Soul/Funk act.

Big Al Jano's Blues Mafia Show is not your "normal" blues act, one with the obligatory' strong front man or woman and a miscellaneous assortment of back-up musicians. Quite the contrary, the boss of this well-dressed mob creates a "mini-blues revue" in thc old tradition by giving each of his musical henchmen equal time at center stage. Al believes that this keeps the Mafia Show interesting and the ear candy stimulating since each member has their own unique style of presentation.
Big Al was influenced by the comedic lyrics of Louis Jourdan, Bullmoose Jackson, Wynonie Harris and Spike Jones. What does it mean to ‘live the blues’? The cover art of the great new album from Ohio native Larry Griffith is a black-and-white photograph, depicting several men in various hats, lined up to receive a “FREE Cup Coffee and Doughnuts for the Unemployed”. “Free Soup,” read two hopeful words in the shop’s window. This is about as Hard As It Gets in life, and Larry would know. According to his website, “Larry was brought up in the inner city of Cincinnati by a single parent along with nine other siblings. The dilapidated, three-tiered tenement literally shook with the radio and vinyl record sounds of everything from blues, gospel, and soul to jazz.” Now an Atlanta resident, Griffith has since produced all-new material, twelve original songs for this CD.

Alongside him are guitarists Mike Lowery, Rara Starblanket, and Delta John Harris; bassists Dustin Sargent, Rara Starblanket and Tommy Vickery; keyboardists Kevin Thomas, Rara Starblanket, and Bobby Mobley; blues harmonica player Jeff Baker; drummers Damian Lewis and Larry himself; and additional vocalists Stephanie Carll, Jon Harris and Rusty Hayes.

Cat Myles is singer and songwriter whose sound reflects all that is great about American music: the blues, rock and r&b of the American south and the urban soul and attitude of her native New York City. Her soul is old, her spirit is fresh and her voice is striking in its power, grit and beauty. Myles, herself a former model, dancer and Ms. Staten Island first runner-up, first started singing publically in high school, and even sang the National Anthem at the commencement ceremonies for Pace University in 2008. Her first band experience came with the Brooklyn-based, country/rock band Breezy Grass in 2008, but Myles didn't try her hand at performing solo until she met Frank Lazarus, a veteran songwriter and musician. Together, they formed a songwriting partnership that displayed their musical chemistry.

In 2015, Cat released her new album, GYPSY SOUL. The album shows Myles following her 70's muse, fusing southern rock and r&b with her usual urban soul to create a sound as fresh and exciting as any on the airwaves. Reverend Blue likes to characterize their musical style as “heavy blues.” It’s not an exact fit, but they like it anyway.

The self-titled CD was released in April of 2006 and has received rave reviews. Although you may hear shades of many of your favorite blues/rock musicians on this CD, the music is all original and the playing is crisp, clean and fiery. You just can't help tapping your foot most of the time, and you may even be compelled to get up and move those hips when no one is watching.

Danish blues band established by guitarist Kenn Lending in 1980 and still active more than three decades later. Frimer Band, from Århus in Denmark, made their debute in 1991 with the live recording "Blues Uncovered" followed by "Handmade" in 1995 and "Sheltered Roads" in 1997. Excellent produced by Ole Frimer, "Sheltered Roads" appears as a sonic enjoyment. The third edition of Frimer Band presents themselves as an extremely well-playing unit with Ole Frimer's Albert Collins inspired guitar playing and soul-charged vocals as the center, solid held together by the veteran bass player Jørgen Nielsen.

Stylistically there has been a slight change from the previous releases, and for those ecxpecting a pure blues album this release may disappoint. However, the music grows upon closer acquaintance. Here are Latin-inspired numbers like "Wanted You To Stay", and the band is also flirting with jazz in "Blueazz". The foundation, however, is still the blues idiom which Frimer Band master like few other related orchestras in Danmark. There are some fine instrumental performances throughout the ten tracks on the album, and especially Ole Frimer and the tenor saxophonist Niels Mathiasen shine with inspired solos.

John Kendricks, 18 November 1936, Detroit, Michigan, USA, d. 2 March 2003, Los Angeles, California, USA. His date of birth is disputed, and varies between 1927 and 1936. Ballard’s truck-driving father died when he was seven years old and he was sent to Bessemer, Alabama, to live with relations. The strict religious and gospel upbringing caused him to run away, and by the age of 15, Ballard was working on an assembly line at Ford Motors in Detroit. His cousin, Florence Ballard, became a member of the Detroit girl group the Supremes. Hank Ballard’s singing voice was heard by Sonny Woods of the Royals, who was amused by his mixture of Jimmy Rushing and Gene Autry. He was asked to replace frontman Lawson Smith during the latter’s army service. The Royals, who also included Henry Booth and Charles Sutton, had been recommended to King Records by Johnny Otis and had previously recorded ‘Every Beat Of My Heart’, later an R&B hit for Gladys Knight And The Pips.

In 1953, Ballard’s first session with the Royals led to their first US R&B Top 10 entry, ‘Get It’, which he also wrote. Ballard composed the newly renamed Midnighters’ 1954 R&B chart-topper, ‘Work With Me Annie’, although its sexual innuendoes were too strong for some radio stations to broadcast. Its popularity spawned sequels (‘Annie Had A Baby’, ‘Annie’s Aunt Fannie’) as well as answer records (the Platters’ ‘Annie Doesn’t Work Here Anymore’). Etta James’ ‘Roll With Me, Henry’ was modified by Georgia Gibbs to ‘Dance With Me, Henry’, while Hank himself responded with ‘Henry’s Got Flat Feet (Can’t Dance No More)’! The group also had success with ‘Sexy Ways’, ‘Don’t Change Your Pretty Ways’, ‘Open Up Your Back Door’ and ‘Tore Up Over You’. In 1955, the Drifters had converted a gospel song into ‘What’cha Gonna Do?’ and, in 1957, Hank Ballard And The Midnighters (as the group was now known) used the same melody for ‘Is Your Love For Real?’. They then modified the arrangement and changed the lyrics to ‘The Twist’. Not realizing the song’s potential, it was released as the b-side of ‘Teardrops On Your Letter’, a number 4 US R&B hit. Shortly afterwards, ‘The Twist’ was covered by Chubby Checker, who embellished Ballard’s dance steps and thus created a new craze. As a result of ‘The Twist’, Hank Ballard And The Midnighters received exposure on pop radio stations and made the US pop charts with such dance hits as ‘Finger Poppin’ Time’ (number 7), ‘Let’s Go, Let’s Go, Let’s Go’ (number 6), ‘The Hoochi Coochi Coo’ (number 23), ‘Let’s Go Again (Where We Went Last Night)’ (number 39), ‘The Continental Walk’ (number 33) and ‘The Switch-A-Roo’ (number 26). On the strength of Chubby Checker’s success, their original version of ‘The Twist’ made number 28 on the US pop charts.

In the mid-60s Hank Ballard split with the other members, but he retained the group’s title, which enabled him to work with numerous musicians using the Midnighters name. For some years he worked with James Brown, who has paid tribute to him on record. In the late 80s, Ballard recorded a double album at the Hammersmith Palais in London. In 1990, he was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. The best of his later recordings is 1998’s From Love To Tears, which features the excellent ‘Two Bad Boys’. The Alabama Lovesnakes was formed in 2006 in Karlstad, Sweden, during the recording of Claes Nilsson's country project "The Wheels". Late nights in the studio aroused an irresistible feeling of the band that just had to break loose - with the blues. Eight years down the road, the band is still made up of the same members, and has logged countless miles and gigs all over Sweden. The band has been a regular headliner at the largest blues festival Åmåls Bluesfest and they attract great attention wherever they play.

The members of the band are vocalist and guitarist Claes "Crocodile" Nilsson (b. 1977), bassist Fredrik Nilsson (b. 1974) and drummer Henry Gillgren (b. 1977). The songs are written by Claes and the whole band picks covers they want to do as the rest of their material. The repertoire consists mainly of trio-based music and the band’s sound mixes elements of both Chicago and Texas, combined with a Nordic roughness, which puts a special touch on the band's attitude and groove. Over the years the band has repeatedly appeared at major blues festivals in Sweden and has also played live on national radio several times.

Tony Spinner - 2 albums: Down Home Mojo / My '64

Tony started playing guitar in the 4th grade and became serious about playing around the age of 14 when he formed his first band in Cape Girardeau. The name of that band was "Turn that *hit Down!" The name grew out of the most frequently heard comment about their music. Tony says his early influences were Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix Muddy Waters, and "All those blues kings.. too numerous to name"

When asked about his early days in the business Tony related the following story. "We opened a show for Night Ranger, our band name was Tuff Anuff. I played the national anthem to start things off, and at the "rockets red glare.. bombs bursting in air" part of the tune, I kicked on my fuzz box to get some obnoxious sounds. The battery was dead........... utter silence. Nothing happened, not from my guitar or from the audience! So, I scrambled around, kicked it back off and played a really tame/lame version. My lesson in not attempting to do what Hendrix already did! One more thing.. Always, always use Duracel!"

Tony owns the 64 Chevy SS on the cover of "MY 64" and it is one of his most prized possessions and one of his favorite hobbies. He is happily married and his extended family includes two horses, 7 cats, and 1 poodle Tony likes playing early 60's strats and his His personal favorite is a 1960 Fiesta Red Strat named Vern.

It was just a chance email early in 2009 that introduced Perth based blues singer KNiKi with Gold Coast based guitarist/frontman of Men in Blues fame Mike Beale. Initially just on board to help organise some east coast musicians for KNiKi’s appearance at the Blues on Broadbeach festival, the musical chemistry was instantaneous. Both artists have had success and multiple Festival appearance to their credit but it’s this new project that has both of them so excited. It’s exciting, vibrant and refreshingly different, and it’s rare that something works as well as this musically.

But it hasn’t been without it’s challenges, not least being the distance between them. "I don’t think it’s possible for the two of us to live any further apart and still be living in Australia” laughs Mike. After Broadbeach, a couple of guest appearances with Men in Blues fuelled the musical fire, and had both of them immediately planning future ventures. The first, being Mike playing guitar for KNiKi at the legendary Toyota Music Muster in Gympie QLD. A quick trip to play Perth in October and the next thing it was off the Kathmandu, Nepal for the Himalayan blues festival. Both agreed it was an amazing experience, the trip of a lifetime, and the response to the music was overwhelming. And it really hasn’t slowed down since, a quick trip into the recording studio has produced some amazing results. The combination of Mike’s shredding blues vocal and explosive guitar, with KNiKi’s powerful, soulful and yet expressive voice has left crowds desperate for more.

In het verleden speelde de band met de Bintangs en Oscar Benton samen op podia in Nederland en ook werd een tour gemaakt in Ierland, waarbij o.a. ook in de Rory Gallagher bar in Middleton werd opgetreden. Ook bij motorclubs en festivals werd het dak er af gespeeld. Vooral de zanger Boule himself valt op door zijn presentatie en zijn voodoostick. Gitarist Bonne v.d. Heuvel behoort tot de top van Nederland en heeft ook in Amerika diverse bluespodia betreden. Tijdens de show gebeurt er van alles en dat maakt het kijken en luisteren naar de Boules Blues Band een belevenis die je eigenlijk niet mag missen.

Down in Louisiana, Marva Wright was called the Blues Queen. Fans of her energy-filled performances, both live and recorded, called her a lot of other things, too, like "Marvalous Marva." The "bluesiana" numbers she favored were a strong showcase for her dynamic, gospel-rooted voice. One listen would be enough to convince any newcomer of her strengths, which was surprising in light of the fact that the vocalist was a late bloomer who didn't turn professional until 1987, when she was creeping up on 40. Even then, she only began singing as a way to support her family with a second job. Bourbon Street in the Big Easy led to more than she had dreamed, ultimately landing her gigs in Europe and across the world, with stops in France, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Russia, Norway, Sweden, and Brazil. Her appearances in the U.S. included Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York, as well as Texas, California, Vermont, Colorado, and Florida.

Although she made a career out of music late in life, Wright actually began to sing much earlier, when she was nine years old. Like many artists, her first public singing efforts were heard in church, with her mother as her accompanist. Top honors in a school-sponsored singing competition followed. Later in life, she credited her mother, a piano player and singer in a gospel quartet, as one of her main influences. Mahalia Jackson, the esteemed gospel singer, was an early friend of the family. Early in 1989 during a live set at Tipitina's in New Orleans, Wright made her first recording, "Mama, He Treats Your Daughter Mean." She made her debut on national television in 1991 when her hometown was the setting for a special that revolved around the Super Bowl. Heartbreakin' Woman, Wright's first full-length release, appeared later that year and garnered honors from the Louisiana Music Critics Association as Blues Album of the Year. The Times-Picayune placed it among the year's Top Ten albums in the city.

Wright's 1993 album Born with the Blues was originally released in France, then three years later the major-label imprint Virgin picked it up for the rest of the world. A 2006 U.K. reissue on Shout! retitled the album Do Right Woman. Her 2007 effort, After the Levees Broke, addressed the devastation of Hurricane Katrina -- which destroyed her house and all her belongings -- by repurposing songs like Willie Nelson's "Crazy," Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come," and Bruce Hornsby's "The Way It Is." She also sang backup for such artists as Allen Toussaint, Glen Campbell, and Joe Cocker, and the long list of others Wright performed with includes Harry Connick, Jr., Bobby McFerrin, Aaron Neville, Fats Domino, Lou Rawls, and Marcia Ball. In May and June of 2009 Marva Wright suffered a pair of strokes from which she never fully recovered, and on March 23, 2010, she passed away a few days after her 62nd birthday at her eldest daughter's home in New Orleans. ~by Linda Seida

Big Blues & Boogie is considered to be one of the best blues band ever coming out of the town of Örebro, Sweden. The band was started after Gunder Eriksson (drums) och Gunnar Andersson (bass) having seen the harmonica player Pelle Lindström playing together with a blues band with a horn section at a local establishment. It was then that the idea to forming the band was born under the motto "We should do something like that".

The band ceased to exist in the late 1990s after having released two albums and having played all over Sweden. They have however reunited occasionally during recent years.

Recording a cover of a well-loved or vintage song selection can seem like sheer laziness, but it can actually be a daunting task when there's reverence for the culture and material. One would be hard-pressed to find a band that would successfully interpret modern and classic soul music that originated over a continent away, but Big Band Splash has accomplished just that with their latest release, The Soul Collection.

Delving into a smorgasbord of modern-day and back-in-the-day favorites, Big Band Splash closely follows the nuances of the originals without attempting to outright 'Xerox' every inflection and ad-lib. The 24-member ensemble whittles itself down to a dozen or so main performers when it comes to stage work and vocalizing (Gracelia Chin A Loi, Greta Bondesson, Sven Zetterberg, John Nemeth, Knock-Out Greg, Marino Valle and Sunniva Bondesson), but the sound stays brassy and exuberant.

For every cover that shadows its source of origin - Willie Hightower's "You Used Me Baby", Ann Sexton's "I Had a Fight With Love", Linda Ronstadt's "You're No Good", Buddy Guy's "Well I Done Got Over It" - there are others that differ in texture, tempo and feel. Albert King's "Drowning On Dry Land" is tweaked and polished, yet grittier, but "Valerie", most recently popularized by the late Amy Winehouse, feels pensive this time around rather than jaded.

If their Swedish roots make it hard to believe that Big Band Splash can convincingly convey soul, think again: there are some major skills and chutzpah at work in channeling the spirit of Sam Cooke ("That's Where It's At"), the fervor of James Brown ("It's a Man's World"), Etta James' irony ("Tell Mama") and yes, even the sugary soul-lite of Beyonce's "Suga Mama" with energy and intent. The difference in accents is noticeable in their interpretations, but not so much that they detract from the sound. /Melody Charles

There are 13 new songs on this disc and they range from some slow blues to his characteristic hard-driven Texas blues that he learned growing up in the Fort Worth. His main influences that you can hear are Jimmy Reed, Anson Funderburgh, and Stevie Ray Vaughan, though much of his vocal phrasing probably comes from the time he spent playing in Robert Ealey's band. His guitar playing is his strong point and he displays it well. From the tasteful slide work on "Mama's Girl" to the loping lines he uses on "Can't Stop Lovin' You," to the chuk chuk guitar of Back in the Alley" to the the hard-driving "Dee Blues." On this latter cut he lets his guitar soar and pound away at the restraints of the speakers, and spends his time really bending the wires to stretch any limits that remain. He makes excellent use of his horn players here, using them to augment his sound and make it fill up the room. A nod must be given at this point to Keith Sykes who co-produced the disc with Mason Ruffner for his contribution on that end. Its good to hear that rasp voice rubbing over the lyrics, but it is even better to hear the guitar-driven Texas blues of this man again. Joel DaSilva has soul and blues running through his veins. Born in Rockford and raised in his sweet home, Chicago, he hails from a musical family. His mother and father traveled throughout Brazil, Ukraine, and the USA, his mother a singer and father on vocals and accompanying her on guitar. His father passed away when he was only 3, but Joel continues to channel that soulful energy in his live performances to this day. As soon as he was old enough to work, Joel took a job as a bar back at various blues and rock clubs, one in particular called the Back Room in it’s heyday, where his older brother tended bar. The goal was to get closer to the feel and emotion of the music, immersing in it and the scene. Eventually, he was setting up equipment for touring bands and getting to know them….lessons from the masters and lessons in music business 101.

By the age of 18, DaSilva joined his first and as lead guitarist for “Junior Drinkwater and the Thirstquenchers”. He went on to play guitar and sing in jump blues with “the Regulators”, psychobilly surf band “the Underbelly’s”, and was the frontman for “the Hep Cat Boo Daddies” for 13 Years before breaking out on his own as a solo artist.

With a resume that includes acting in independent movies as well as performances with heavy hitters like B.B.King, A.C.Reed, the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Reverend Horton Heat, JJ Grey, Mofro, Nick Curran, the Smithereens, Ray Charles, Foghat, Los Lobos, the White Stripes, Leon Russell, Magic Slim and the Teardrops, the Black Crowes, Nighthawks, Coco Montoya, Edgar Winter, Johnny Winter, Jimmie Vaughan, Robin Trower, etc,etc…to various venues, concerts and festivals worldwide ( the International Jazz Festival in Canada, Tremblant Blues Fest, Soulive Fest in CA, various blues and rock fest in the US, IBC Challenges in Memphis) etc etc etc. DaSilva has already made a mark in the industry; and is poised to become a power player.

Morry Sochat and The Special 20’s are bringing a fresh sound to the Chicago Blues scene. They mix classic Chicago Blues with Swing and Rock N’ Roll from the 1950’s. The band is influenced by the best in blues history. Muddy Waters, Little Walter, Louis Jordan, Junior Wells, and all of the Chicago greats.

Morry Sochat (pronounced Socket) moved to Chicago from Texas in 1990. He started playing harmonica in 2000, taking lessons from renowned teacher, Joe Filisko at the Old Town School of Folk Music. He played with The Shakes and Tongue & Groove before starting The Special 20s in 2005. Their first, self-titled release, recorded in 2006, was received with great reviews, taking the 20s from playing one or two nights a month to constant bookings all over the city. Morry has been playing around the city learning from the greats in Chicago, playing with Dave Specter, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, Billy Flynn and Barrelhouse Chuck.

In 2007, Sochat took the next step and went out on his own. He hired some of the best musicians in Chicago to round out The Special 20s. In 2008, they returned to the studio to record a new CD. The recording Swingin’ Shufflin’ Smokin’ was produced by Nick Moss and featured Ted Beranis, Kenny Smith, Dave Ross, Nick Krebs, Shoji Naito, and Jim St. Marie. The CD was also met with rave reviews. This opened up doors for the band across the US.

In 2010 Morry took the band back to the studio to release Eatin’ Dirt. The CD was produced by Jimmy Sutton, and features 10 original songs. The band has grown in both skill level and size, adding a horn section on a lot of the songs. Eating’ Dirt was a sound expansion for the band. It was the first CD that brought in the horn section. The recording featured the line up of Marty Binder, Doug Corcoran, Shoji Naito, Chris Neal, Jim St. Marie and Ted Beranis. It has special guests Billy Flynn, Dave Hererro, and Brother John on the CD. The sound is vintage with a modern feel.

DIG IN marks the 10 year anniversary of Morry Sochat & The Special 20s. We started recording this CD on February 1st 2015. Chicago was blanketed by 19 inches of snow on that day. We hunkered down for the next 5 days in the studio and laid it down. The CD was produced by Tim Bluhm and features 9 original songs and 2 classic covers. The band is stronger and tighter than ever and moving forward.

Yowza! That’s what you’ll exclaim as the opening cut grabs your attention on the latest release from acclaimed Mark Searcy Band. Ginger Pickett’s vocal work on the lead off “Voodoo Woman” sets the tone for the project. Kori Hubbard takes over on vocals on “What You Are” and the excellence continues. Searcy surrounds himself with a host of talent including Louie Real and Carlos Escobedo (which you might have seen with the Wolf Sisters) and Jeff Keast on keys. Searcy’s band also includes Texas Music Awards 2011 Nominee Rick Boss on harmonica. With this collection of pickers, it’s no wonder that this is Searcy’s best work to date. The dynamic of the album is varied without breaking genre. The blues are intertwined with jazz and gospel influences for a new sound that makes Searcy’s band a truly hot commodity on the music scene today. Searcy has come a long way from the grass-roots purity of BLINDMAN’S BLUES and has a more commercial feel these days. There are times in the music when you can feel his connection to his upbringing, but for the most part, he has moved on to the next phase of his music. Searcy pens the majority, peppers in a few co-writes with Hubbard, Boss, and others, and covers a couple of classics. Mark takes the microphone on but one cut, the raucous “Wang Dang Love Thang” to close the album. The flow of the album is one of the best features of the album, which is why it should be a felony to buy one song from an album. Artists go into the studio and lay down an album, a collection, a project, of which they have spent countless hours debating and even arguing about the order of the songs. Why? The order doesn’t matter if you’re going to let people strip your creativity one download at a time. This is why MyTexasMusic.com only allows full album downloads. Whatever you do, make sure you listen to this disc in the order it is displayed. Unless you do, you will miss the emotion and passion with which it was recorded. Searcy puts together nine cuts of pure entertainment and it should be enjoyed exactly has he envisioned it. I usually don’t advise artists to self-produce, and in the early days, Searcy might have been better served by hiring out a producer, but the road, the work, and the experience have brought Mark Searcy to the point where he not only is masterful at this self-production, but he would be a good candidate as producer for any artist serious about capturing true expression on disc. The highlight of the disc is the sultry performance by Kori Hubbard on “Chocolate and Cherries.” This epic recording is best experienced with over-the-ears headphones, cigar in hand, eyes closed, and the smell of whiskey nearby. It doesn’t take much to transform yourself to a magical place, the likes of which haven’t existed since the demise of Generic Joe’s on Sixth Street. Searcy is not Memphis, Chicago, or New Orleans. Rudy Green - Wild Life

Rudy Spencer Green (September 1926, Lake Charles, Louisiana) is not a household name in the blues world, but his guitar playing shows him to be an ardent disciple of T-Bone Walker. Green made his first recordings in 1946 in Nashville for the Bullet label. Three singles were released in 1946-47, two with a very jazzy rhythm trio (This Happened/Evil Man Blues and No Good Woman Blues/Deep in My Heart), the third one (Buzzard Pie/Florida Blues) in Louis Jordan style, with a small horn-led jump band. Six years later, in Chicago, he did session work for the Chance label, but he also recorded eight tracks, accompanied by King Kolax & his band. In the mid 1950s Green played a lot in clubs in the Chicago area and he recorded three singles for Club 51 with Eddie Chamblee's Combo. Back in Nashville, he recorded two 45s for Excello and in december 1966 in New York, he recorded two wild black rock 'n' roll singles (Juicy Fruit/You're The One For Me and Lonesome/Wild Life). Green got no promotion and this really killed the commercial chances of these great singles. This compilation contains the A and B sides of his 12 released singles and three bonus tracks featuring Rudy Green as a session guitarist. Rudy Green died in Florida in 1976.

Buster was born in Hereford, North Carolina, at the age of 3 Buster developed Glaucoma, as a young Boy his Musical Career started as a Vocalist. By the time he completely lost his eyesight, Buster learned how to play 6 Instruments, including the Guitar which he consistently played, while attending the North Carolina School for the Blind.

As a Teenager Buster relocated to Long Island, New York. In 1959 Buster began his Professional Musical Career as a back-up Guitar Player in Alan Freed's 'ROCK AND ROLL SHOWS', the premier Showcase for many future World Class Entertainers, that was at Brooklyn's Paramount Theater. In addition Buster was performing on a regular basis in the Bars and Clubs on Long Island.

In 1964 Buster won a Talent Contest at the World famous 'APOLLO THEATER', and caught the attention of Jerry Blaine, who ran the Jubilee and Josie Record Company. Buster signed with Jubilee/Josie records, and recorded his Composition 'LOOKING FOR A HOME', which became a Radio Hit in the local markets on the East Coast. Throughout the 1960's Buster recorded for Jubilee/Jossie Records, his biggest Hit was in 1968. The name of the song was 'YOUNG BOY BLUES' which was written by Legendary Song Writer Doc Pomus. Doc Pomus said that "Buster's Overwhelming Version Of This Song Was The Best Rendition That He Ever Heard", far outstripping Ben E. King's cover of the Song. The last Single that Buster recorded for Jubilee/Josie Records was 'CITY OF BLUES/CRY ME A RIVER' Jubilee/Josie Records recorded Buster's first Album, compiled of previously released 45's and some additional original Compositions in 1970. The title of the Album was 'LOOKING FOR A HOME', but unfortunately due to the financial demise of Jubilee/Josie Records this album was never released, and was put in storage in the Company Vault.

In the 1970 Buster put his Recording Career on hold and concentrated on Live Performances throughout New York. Buster paid his dues as an opening Act. These Shows featuring his unbelievable Vocals and Guitar playing, resulted in his Legendary Entertainer status in New York that still remains today.

In 1996, Buster revived his Recording Career, with the release of his CD, 'RIGHT ON TIME' on Rounder/Bullseye Records. This CD compiled mostly of Buster's original Compositions received Worldwide acclaim, and resulted in a W.C.HANDY AWARD, Nomination, and received runner-up status for the LIVING BLUES MAGAZINE CRITICS AWARD. Buster's Recording Career moved forward in 2000, with the release of another CD, 'WORK YOUR SHOW' on Fedora Records. This CD also received rave reviews by the Music Critics throughout the World. These accolades created the opportunity for Buster to perform on 'CBS This Morning', 'Late Night With Connan O'Brien','The David Letterman Show', 'The Chris Rock Show', and 'Dan Ackroyd's House Of Blues Hour'. Buster has also been featured in Periodicals such as 'Juke Blues Magazine' and ' 20th Century Guitar'. This increased exposure created the opportunity for Buster to Perform in Concerts and Music Festivals in the United States, Canada, Europe and Japan.

Little Buster Is A Sublimely Talented Soul Singer, A Tough Blues Guitarist And A Sure Handed Songwriter With A Knack For Making R&B Songs That Evoke The Classic 1960s Sound. Buster Has Played The Long Island Club Circuit For More than 4 Decades, Winning An Insider's Reputation As "One Of New York's Great Undiscovered Treasures".

Buster has always wanted to re-release his 45's, and in 1997, he learned that Sequel Records in England had obtained the rights to release all of the Songs on a CD.In the year 2000, Buster and his life long Friend Steve Kleinberg, along with Ayanna Hobson, formed Little Buster Records Inc. One of the many goals of this collaboration was to enable Buster to have complete control of his own Record Company, and his Music.
