Five Horse Johnson are an Ohio based Blues band who appeal to fans of Stoner Rock and Classic Rock, due to their similar outlook, attitude and production styles.
The No.6 Dance was the band's fourth full-length studio album and was something of a minor breakthrough for the band back when it was released in 2000, and the Mountain referencing track `Mississippi King' was featured in several notable videogame soundtracks.
No.6 Dance is an album that you can just stick on from beginning to end, have a good time and not have to skip anything. The whole thing flows together very well, from the punchy start to the fourteen minute slow-blues closer `Odella,' with no weak tracks and no filler. This is the sort of album you can just keep on listening to, it's pretty difficult not to fall in love with tracks like `Spillin Fire' or `Swallow The World.'

Five Horse Johnson is Eric Oblander (Harp & Vocals), Brad Coffin (Guitar & Vocals), Steve Smith (Bass), Phil Durr (Guitar) and Eric Miller - Drums.
The band formed in 1995 in Toledo, Ohio, USA. Smith, Oblander, and Coffin decided to get down to the business of playing blues based rock the way they heard it in their punk and classic rock infested heads. For their 2006 album "The Mystery Spot", the band collaborated with Jean Paul Gaster of Clutch on drums.
They quickly found themselves sharing the stage with the likes of Big Jack Johnson and War after just two weeks of being a band, that’s just how long it took FHJ to put together their first set. Their next several years were spent in the dingy little clubs of America, honing their craft.

Five Horse Johnson - The Last Men On Earth

Size: 335 MB
Time: 45:46
File: Flac
Released: 2003
Styles: Blues-Rock
Art: Front

1. Cry Rain (5:14)
2. Yer Mountain (4:27)
3. Cherry Red (4:10)
4. Soul Digger (4:41)
5. Three At A Time (4:27)
6. Blood Don't Pay (5:07)
7. Love To Lose (4:23)
8. Sweetwater (3:33)
9. B.C. Approved (4:59)
10. Sawhill (4:41)

Yet another shattering monster from this dedicated Toledo, Ohio four-some. Embracing heavy, chugging blues riffs ala ZZ Top meets Lynyrd Skynyrd, FHJ explode into their fifth platter with both barrels blazing. "Cherry Red" goes right for the throat with a simple, intoxicating groove built around more of a '70s respect than a carbon copy. Eric Oblander's vocals flourish under the augmentation of "Three At A Time" and "B.C. Approved" sounding more the part of a whisky-soaked croaker in a Mississippi juke joint. The guttural "Cry Rain" and the funk of "Sweetwater" show the band in fine form with Brad Coffin's solos echoing back to the classic Nugent/ Schenker delivery. Yet, it is Oblander's leap as a blues singer in "Soul Digger," with the Polish of a slick harmonica lick, that capitalizes on the band's time spent opening for R.L. Burnside and makes their foray into swamp blues far more legitimate. "Yer Mountain" also makes dynamic use of the harmonica stain etched into a rightful bass-driven groove courtesy of Steve Smith and powerhouse drummer Mike Alonso. "Love 2 Lose" and "Blood Don't Pay" are riff-happy sing-along favorites but it's the wooly "Sawmill" that meets the devil in both lyrics and a lava-rutted guitar. Bringing to life a respected black history fused with urgent, bone-crushing hard rock Five Horse Johnson just may be the new millennium's Canned Heat. Five Horse Johnson make you glad to be alive

Five Horse Johnson - Jake Leg Boogie

Year: 2017
Bitrate: MP3@320K/s
Time: 39:37
Size: 91,6 MB
Styles: Blues-rock
Scans: Full

1. Jake Leg Boogie (2:39)
2. Magic Man (4:16)
3. Cryin' Shame (4:32)
4. Ropes And Chains (3:39)
5. Hard Times (4:08)

7. Little Lonely (4:52)
8. Overload (3:57)
9. Daddy Was A Gun (4:36)
10. Last Song (2:35)

When Five Horse Johnson formed back in 1995, referring to themselves as a blues band, a few brows might well have been furrowed. But this is a band that has always understood that the blues isn't a formula - it's a way of looking at the world. Their take on the blooze is as a dirty, sensual thing, enhanced with a healthy dose of humor. From the slow, bluesy stomp of the title-track, to the dirge vibe of Daddy Was a Gun - a story of some weird goings-on in a strange parish - Jake Leg Boogie is pure old school FHJ, recorded live, everyone in the same room, with as little overdubbing as possible.

Accordingly, it feels lively and loud in the MC5-come-Hendrix vibe of Hard Times, the hard-rocking Magic Man (a tale of depravity set in the town of Springfield, MO), and the near-Texan boogie of Smoke Show. Jake Leg Boogie was recorded at Rustbelt Studios, with longtime producer Al Sutton (Big Chief, Novadriver, Halfway to Gone, Detroit Cobras) at the production helm, with a definitive nod to Dave Cobb (All Them Witches, Rival Sons). Artwork provided by noted graphic artist and FHJ-collaborator Mark Dancey, keeping with a tradition established on 1999's Fat Black Pussycat.

Five Horse Johnson is not a band that makes apologies, and compromise is not an option. The truth is, this is hard, heavy, dirty blues rock 'n' roll for people who like the sound of an engine roaring or the feeling obtained by following a cold beer with a shot of good whiskey. FHJ will gladly kick your ***, and then wait for you to say thank you and ask for another. Which you will. /Amazon

Personnel: Eric Oblander (vocals, harmonica); Brad Coffin (vocals, guitar); Steve Smith (bass); Phil Dürr (guitar); Tim Gahagan (drums, percussion).
