Having taught himself to play in the isolation of rural Australia, he has developed a blues/funk style all his own that can be delicate one moment and explosive the next.

Chris Wilson, meanwhile, is an accomplished blues harmonica player, guitarist and vocalist. He’s shared stages with Bob Dylan, provided backing vocals on the Merril Bainbridge song ‘Under The Water’ and has toured extensively playing at many festivals, both in Australia and overseas.

Every once in a while lightning strikes and, if you get lucky, it gets captured! That's what happened on 6/13/10 when this live performance at the legendary Eddie's Attic in Decatur, GA was recorded. This CD is a wonderful example of what can happen when two great musicians and songwriters join forces. The dynamic duo alternate between Randall's songs and Geoff's original tunes, and the result is greater than the sum of the parts. Check out how Achison's sensitive accompaniment enhances Bramblett's "Nobody's Problem" or how Randall's sax perfectly complements Geoff's "Rule the World." Oliver Wood of King Johnson adds scorching electric guitar licks to tunes like Achison's "Jungle" and Bramblett's "Get In Get Out," proving that with musicians of this caliber, more is definitely merrier!

Australian blues/roots singer/songwriter, guitar sensation Geoff Achison, whose sound combines elements of blues, funk, soul and jam-band music.

Another Mile, Another Minute is Geoff’s 14th solo effort and demonstrates notable growth in his songwriting. The genre bending album features horn players, backup singers and the best session and live players on offer in Australia. Long time Souldiggers Roger McLachlan and Mal Logan were part of the early days of the Little River Band. Guest players Chris Wilson, Lloyd Speigel and Shannon Bourne are well known names in the roots world of Oz with their own well established careers. Geoff is honored to have these prominent musicians on Another Mile, Another Minute. He feels the delicious groove present throughout the album is due to the intuitive way he and his core band play, and the creative spark the guest players were able to bring. Recording was done at HS45 Studios in Melbourne, Australia. Production by Ben Harwood, Rob Harwood, and Geoff Achison.

Jorma Kaukonen of Jefferson Airplane and Hot Tuna fame said of Achison, “Geoff is one of the finest blues guitarists that I know with a completely individual style. I have never seen anyone play quite like him.” Kaukonen is such a fan of Achison’s playing that he’s made him a charter guitar instructor at his celebrated Fur Peace Ranch in Ohio, teaching there for 17 years.

Since first arriving to tour in the U.S. in the mid 1990s, Geoff Achison has garnered consistently strong reviews. Down Beat magazine lauded his music as, “Catchy, intelligent songwriting. Achison controls an expressive, individual singing voice and he spills out blues guitar phrases that shed further light on various emotional states.” Elmore Magazine said, “Achison seems more like a singer/songwriter’s soul in Jeff Beck’s body.” And perhaps the celebrated Times of London said it best when it called him, “Possibly one of the most gifted musicians to arrive on the scene ... his playing verges on the miraculous.”

At an early age, Geoff developed a passion for American blues music and taught himself to play on a beat up guitar he discovered under the stairs of the family home. In his early 20s, he became lead guitarist with Australia’s acknowledged blues master Dutch Tilders. After six successful years he left to pursue his own musical ideas and formed the first incarnation of his own band, The Souldiggers.

Geoff started his worldwide explorations in 1995 with his first trip to the USA. He represented the Melbourne Blues Society at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis and won the coveted Albert King Award for his guitar skills. He went on to accept an endorsement deal with the Gibson Guitar Company's acoustic division. In 2014 he became endorsed by Lichty Guitars and Goodsell Amplifiers.

He has won numerous awards over the years for writing, performing and recording. A Guitar Player Magazine reader’s poll voted Geoff “Top Ten Hot New Guitarists.” In 2011, the folks at TrueFire/Guitar Player put Geoff on the list of the “100+ Most Gifted Guitarists You Should Know.” In 2012 Geoff was listed as one of the “Top 50 Australian Guitarists of All Time.”

Geoff Achison & The Souldiggers - 2 albums: Gettin' Evil / Live At Guitars Across The Bay

For the uninitiated Geoff Achhison is a singer songwriter and above all a guitarist extrordinaire from Melbourne, Australia. Over the past decade Geoff has built up a cult following among blues fans and lovers of fine guitar playing as he has explored the roots of the genre and moved on to use the lexicon to explore more contemporary themes. Gettin' evil is the product of Achison's Portland based Souldiggers Band. He has several other Souldigger bands in - Melbourne, in England and more lately touring with Hot Tuna. It's theme seems to be the frustrations of the troubadour in the global age.
The opening track "Coming to getcha" addressed to the woman at home lays it all out out in characteristic style: candid lyrics, strong delivery and urgent guitar, leave us in no doubt what is on the the man's mind. Track 8 "Hotel room" will help those a bit slow on the uptake get the picture. Other tracks address the experience of dealing with deadheads and rip off artists on the road. The tracks roll on revealing a mastery of the electric guitar in tight arrangements and with ever increasing evidence for those who claim Geoff is at the top of the pile of contemporary blues artists. The CD also has a rendition of Geoff's acoustic blues hit "Don't Play Guitar Boy" the track that won an award in Memphis in 1995. We are all glad he didn't take this bit of advice.

Twelve of the thirteen songs were written by Geoff, reflecting his belief that the blues genre can express contemporary themes. He does pay appropriate homage to tradition, claiming in the liner notes that he uses a seven hundred year old electric guitar. There is enough variety here to get a taste of Geoff's skills, but look out for his other recordings, with other bands as well as unaccompanied and acoustic. ~Darby Higgs

Their sensational and electrifying live shows have thrilled Melbourne audiences for years. In March 2011 the guys tore up the stage at a Williamstown festival. Sound-man Paul Wilson realised this was a special performance and was thoughtful enough to press the 'RED' button. The band were unaware they were being recorded at the time, but were thrilled with the result.

This set documents the band at a time when many new songs have found their way into the live show over the past few years and have evolved markedly from their original studio versions. If you like the way the Souldiggers played when you saw them live, then this is for you!
