TJ Nix and Paul Plumeri have the wintertime blues — and that’s a good thing.
The blues musicians are celebrating the release of their new album, Live at the Patriots Theatre, with a concert at Rho Waterfront in Trenton on Jan. 3. The album, which will be available for sale at the concert, includes both a film and an audio recording of the show.
The concert was filmed and recorded in April of 2011 at Patriots Theater at the War Memorial in Trenton, with a band featuring Mr. Nix on harmonica, and Mr. Plumeri on guitar. The two are joined by Angelo DiBraccio on sax, Nick Hutton on acoustic guitar, Jerry Monk on bass, and Marty Paglione and Michael White on drums.
The 66-minute concert was filmed in high definition (the audio version offers an extra song and runs 77 minutes) that captured the musicians performing tunes including “Sanctified,” “I Need Your Money,” “You Can’t Stop It Now,” and an epic performance of “Got My Mojo Workin’.”
Mr. Plumeri and Mr. Nix have known each other since Mr. Nix, who is 52, was a kid. Mr. Nix says he’s been playing harmonica since he was 5, and Mr. Plumeri would come to his house to play with Mr Nix’s father, Fred Nix.
”That’s where I first met him, in my living room, playing guitar with my dad,” Mr. Nix says.Then a few years ago, they started playing together again.
”I used to sit in with the band with him and Joe Zook and all the blues guys from around,” Mr. Nix says. “And Paul knows me from my old days musically when I played in a band called Nix and the Sidekicks.”
That band hit the national blues charts in 1989 and opened for acts such as Humble Pie, Edgar Winter and Leslie West.The live album is a follow-up to Mr. Nix and Mr. Plumeri’s first disc, Blues in Disguise, which was a studio recording.
