Conceived during the hot, sweaty nights of late summer 2012 in a smoke filled, moonlit basement somewhere in Sydney’s gritty and cultured inner west. Little Big Wolf is a pure and simple, honest and organic, alternative blues collaboration.
Reared on a concoction of spiced rum, cigarettes, white chocolate and black coffee, coupled with a healthy diet of Tom Waits, The Beatles, Ben Harper and all you can find in between. This 4 piece have well and truly landed on all fours and quickly cut their canines in a crossover genre space, opening the trap door to the foot stomping hideout, where we all secretly long to take cover.
Take a bottle full of chugging guitars and pour it over some sweet bluesy licks and slide riffs, fix a side plate of ‘lay it on the line’ lyrics and sooty, husky vocal howls…. and you’re already knee deep in the murky swamp of sound the wolf calls home. You’ll keep trudging along, soundly carried by all four or the Wolf’s warm, slinky bassy feet, yet all the while connected to the mesmerising, conductive, rhythms conjured by the carpenter’s bare hands.
Teaming up with renowned and veteran Australian producer ‘Syd Green’ to colourfully hand craft their self-titled debut release, Little Big Wolf have migrated their way through the traditional lands of the southern blues (al be it via the swampy, dirty, moon-shiner’s route) and have drawn on the lingering tastes of their past feastings on roots, hard rock, funk and jazz.
Little Big Wolf is a unique and interesting collaboration of characters that have all met in a common breeding ground to let out an almighty howl and free expression as revolution.
