The Bridget Kelly Band is another group we simply cannot get enough of. Their fifth album for Alpha Sun Records in the last six years is entitled “Blues Warrior,” and that they are, indeed, continuing to spread the word of the blues from their home base in Florida to fans all over the globe. Bridget’s got a voice to die for, sultry, soulful, and sexy, (often all at the same time!), while Tim Fik is the consummate guitar-meister, with influences as varied as B. B., Jimi, and Dickie Betts, and everyone in between. He also serves as the set’s producer. They were Semi-Finalists in both the 2015 and 2016 IBC’s, and, this year, Tim collared a prestigious KBA, a lifetime achievement award given to those who have dedicated their lives and careers in Keeping The Blues Alive and preserving and promoting its heritage. The Bridget Kelly Band has used the music of “Blues Warrior” to empower all who suffer from any of the plights that plague modern society to take every step possible to stand up and fight back. An excellent blues album under any circumstances, this one is made even more appealing by the band’s philanthropic outlook of “giving back” to their fans and the blues community who knows of someone suffering in silence. Thank you, guys–we love you! ~Sheryl and Don Crow

The powerful and sultry vocals of singer Bridget Kelly and the incendiary lead guitar work of Tim Fik forge a signature hybrid sound that combines female urban blues with riff-driven rockin' blues guitar; held together by a dynamic rhythm section comprised of Alex Klausner on drums and Mark Armbrecht on bass. The Bridget Kelly Band has been performing at blues clubs, concerts, and festivals throughout the United States, and recently at the "Women in Blues" Showcase in Memphis, TN during the International Blues Challenge (IBC) (Jan 30-Feb 4, 2017). Bridget Kelly Band - Outta The Blues

[5:19] 3. If You See My Baby
[4:18] 4. Sweet River Blues
[6:45] 5. Baltimore Woes
[6:00] 6. Dancin' With The Blues
[4:29] 7. Dangerous Man

[4:43] 12. Someone's Hoodooin' Me
[4:35] 13. Double Crossed
[4:27] 14. Rocket To The Moon

Hailing from Gainesville, Florida, the band has produced a solid set of original music, avoiding the frequent trap of making a rock album with hints of blues: this CD has plenty of genuine blues, witness the opening brace of “Gonna Stay Here” which has plenty of overdubbed slide and “Spellbound”, a classic slow blues with some sweet guitar from Tim. The band goes for some latin rhythms and Santanaesque guitar leads on “If You See My Baby” and although Bridget’s voice is less well suited to the higher register that the song demands, musically this is a definite winner. Time then for a shuffle and “Sweet River Blues” provides a bright tune and a solid vocal from Bridget, a song that sounds instantly familiar though it is another original. The slow-burning “Baltimore Woes” is the longest track here and opens with elegant acoustic guitar as Bridget sings of “fighting for glory, for the ones who do not care”, the song gradually building in intensity as bass, drums and layers of electric guitars add to the underlying tune.

After two rockier tracks the band uses the core riff of Howling Wolf’s “Smokestack Lightning” as the base for their own lyrics on “Up And Gone”, a device that works well as Bridget sings her lyrics and even uses a touch of Wolf’s signature howl as Tim adds some great slide work. The band pays appropriate homage to the original tune in the liner notes. A gentle ballad “Lonely Night In June” shows another side to the band and acts as a good interlude before the intense guitar intro to “When The Night Time Comes” which Tim sings in a gruff but serviceable voice. The fast-paced “Hard Times In The City” has plenty of good guitar work in support of Bridget’s vocal about the underbelly of the city before “Someone’s Hoodooin’ Me” presents a more standard blues ‘chug’ with a grittier vocal from Bridget that fits the song perfectly.

Once again the band has come up with a full album of originals and deserves credit for that. Plenty of real blues here and some fine playing – worth a listen. ~John Mitchell

Bridget Kelly was also featured in the Women in the Blues Showcase at the IBC in Memphis, closing the show at the fabled Center for Southern Folklore. Bridget Kelly and guitarist Tim Fik were invited to sit in with Brandon Santini and Jeff Jensen and his band at W.C. Handy's Blues Hall (Memphis, TN) the weekend of the IBC (Jan. 2014). The Bridget Kelly Band's new CD "Forever in Blues" was officially release in the summer of 2014, and contains 15 new original songs couched in a modern-day electric blues style than blends elements of classic blues with guitar-driven Texas and Memphis blues.

Chris Manson, music review writer for Beachcomber Magazine, wrote: "Hard to distinguish yourself in the blues genre these days, but this Gainesville four-piece gives it their best shot.. The front-woman at times suggests what Fleetwood Mac might have sounded like had that band continued playing the blues once Stevie Nicks joined the fold,
and Tim Fik’s guitar is appealing throughout." Gary Anton of the Bradfordville Blues Club (Tallahassee, FL) wrote"This four-piece band from the Gainesville area is fronted by vocalist Bridget Kelly and backed up by some pretty hot and tasteful picking by guitarist Tim Fik. Bridget and Tim combine a retro '60's and '80's sound for a unique take on blues-rock. Mike Hamm on bass and Michael Barady round out the rhythm section." Chazz Clooney of Black Fox Productions had this to say: "A rockin' blues band out of the Gainesville, Florida area that you have to see to believe! Having met all of the band members I can honestly say they are a great bunch of people and fine musicians. Bridget Kelly , with her soulful but also raspy and strong vocals belts out the blues like nobody's bi-ness...while master class guitarist Tim Fik rips off blues runs reminiscent of Stevie Ray Vaughn...and all of it held together like glue by the bass playing of Mike Hamm and the skin smackin' of Michael Barady... This band Rocks some Blues!!! This is one band you WANT to see!!!"
