Before rock, there was rockabilly, blues, rhythm n’ blues and country. The Detonators, through their original songs, reinvent the styles that made the mid to late 50s such a vital time in music’s history. Their inimitable sound is infused with the driving energy inherent in the music of their heroes - Chuck Berry, Little Walter and Hound Dog Taylor. Formed in mid ‘97, and Melbourne based, original roots rockers The Detonators have released four albums. Enhancing their live performance reputation by aggressive touring, they have played Australia from coast to coast, and are now conquering overseas markets also. Multi award winning ‘The Dets’ have quickly earned a deserved reputation, as one of Australia’s most exciting, hard working, rockin' roots bands.

Their new release - “Top Night Out” - has a heavier, more rocking sound than their previous albums, while managing to stay true to their blues, rock ‘n’ roll sensibilities. Their ability to produce a distinctly Australian sound while staying within both their genre and sound, is testament to the strength of their song writing and musicianship on this album.

Personnel: Rockbottom James Moloney (vocals, harmonica), Paulie “The Kid” Bignell (guitar), Eddie Fury (drums) and Doghouse Dave Philpots (double bass).

With a finely honed array of original songs and a stage show that only comes from years of gigging pubs, clubs and festivals, The Detonators become crowned kings of Australia’s roots rock 'n' roll.

Their original music, to which all members contribute, is best described as a lethal combination of blues, rockabilly and early rock 'n' roll. The band features bespectacled Rockbottom James on vocals and electric harmonica, Paulie Bignell on hollow body guitar, Doghouse Dave on slapping double bass and TT Slim on sticks and skins duty.

13. Grogula (6:51)
14. She's Mad (7:13)

The Detonators from Melbourne Australia have released their long awaited sixth CD. Recorded live at guitarists Paulie Bignells Hailstone Studio over two days and all songs in two takes, the album comprising of 14 original songs doesn’t vary from the proven Detonators bluesy roots rock n roll based formula. The songs all originals written by band members cover a variety of topics mainly from the bands observance of people and their actions during their constant touring and gigging since 1997.

The title track Monster in a Box covers the results of too much drinking out of the cheap wine cask, Second on the list is Tough Stickers an over view of the Tattoo situation sweeping the world. Sober and straight a blues shuffle follows up with a report on the difficulties of giving up drinking. Can’t wait to see you is next covering the story of a criminal saying he’s on the straight and narrow, but is he? It aint that hard shows what you can do if you put your mind to it including strapping a rocket to the roof of your car. Best band in the land, lots of bands make the claim this song covers the result of a fictional altercation between a couple of them. She Detonates my rocket is a rocking girl chaser. Scat Attack a slapping, slap back rockabilly song about a personal accident some of us may have had at one time or another. Up next is Nightloss, sometimes dreams get a bit real that’s all we’ll say. Health Cigarettes are a new invention, cigarettes that can be good for you be careful though! Bump Bump Bump a swinging journey of boy meets girl and what happens next. Line and tackle, after the chase sometimes you can lose the lot. Grogula a new kind of monster, he’s pretty straight until he indulges in a drink then hell breaks loose. Last up is She’s Mad, the results of a one man party at home.

“We hope you enjoy our new Cd as much as we enjoyed making it. We had a ball and lots of laughs doing it, we’ll see you at a gig or a festival somewhere, come up and say hello. We’ll be at the bar probably!” – Doghousedave
