Frasco has never been one to shy away from work. Born and raised in California, he built his audience the old fashioned way, crisscrossing the world performing hundreds of exhilarating shows each year with his ever-evolving band, The U.N. Since its inception, the group has released a series of acclaimed records, shared bills with the likes of Leon Russell, Galactic, Gary Clark, Jr., The Revivalists, and Marcus King among others, and slayed festival stages everywhere from Mountain Jam in the U.S. to Rock am Ring in Germany and COTAI Jazz & Blues in China (this summer, they’ll appear at both Bonnaroo and FloydFest). NME hailed Frasco and his bandmates as “party-starting touring stalwarts,” while Relix praised their “raucous energy,” and Clash lauded their live show as a “nightly high-octane experience that doubles as a celebration of life and music…energized by a powerfully entertaining multi-cultural soundtrack that will shake the foundations of all nearby structures.”

On top of his manic schedule as one of the hardest touring musicians working today, Frasco also hosts ‘Andy Frasco’s World Saving Podcast,’ which features conversations with musicians, comedians, and actors about life on the road, the creative process, and mental health.

Californian native Andy Frasco formed the U.N. back in 2007 to start a world tour that he claims has never really ended. Comprising Frasco on keyboards and vocals, Ernie Chang on sax, Shawn Eckels on guitar and vocals and an ever-evolving line-up of other musicians, the band has released five studio albums since 2010’s Love, You’re Too Expensive. Given the band’s reputation for raucously wild, celebratory live performances, a live CD/DVD was perhaps an obvious step on the career path, and Songs From The Road does not disappoint. Recorded at the Tucher Blues & Jazz Festival in Bamberg, Germany, in August 2016, the album captures a band that is seriously match-fit, exploding onto stage with the breakneck “C Boogie” and not letting up until the closing, madcap cover of Rage Against The Machine’s “Killing In The Name” (the only cover on the album). With songs selected from across the band’s back catalogue, Frasco and his co-conspirators quickly have the audience hooked on their vigorous blues-rock, willingly singing along to the boisterously vulgar (yet infuriatingly catchy) chorus of “Stop Fucking Around”.

The band’s line-up on Songs From The Road comprises Frasco, Eckels and Chang together with Chris Lorentz on bass, Andee Avila on drums and vocals, Matt Owen on tuba, Jelmer Olsman on percussion, Niels Kant on trumpet, Arno Bakker on sousaphone and trombone and Rens Ouburg on guitar, harp and vocals. They are an immensely impressive combination, mixing technical virtuosity and edge-of-the-seat improvisation with memorable choruses and witty lyrics. Chang in particular pulls out a number of superb solos, especially on “Main Squeeze”.

Is this blues? Not by a long stretch. It is blues-rock at best, and very much at the rock end of that spectrum. It is also however highly enjoyable, technically impressive and viscerally exciting. This is music to get lost in and to dance to, with a knowingly absurdist sense of humor and an almost reckless indifference to genres and categorization. Andy Frasco, the 25-year old Los Angeles, CA native singer/songwriter/band maestro/entrepreneur/party starter/everyday hustler, and his band of gypsies have been dubbed “Party Blues with a touch of Barefoot Boogie.” Frasco’s shows are recognized as orchestrated chaos, inciting frenzied, undeniable good times, dancing, and an addict’s like hunger for more.
Touring independently across the U.S. and Europe since the tender age of 18, Frasco first got his taste of the music industry managing and promoting bands when he was 16 years old -booking bands like Hello Goodbye, and working with labels such as Drive Thru and Atlantic Records, as well as venues like The Key Club in Hollywood, CA.
Since his start Frasco has made the road his home, averaging 200+ dates a year over the past five years, trekking over 200,000 thousand miles, spanning the country dozens of times over, blowing minds and building a loyal following everywhere he goes.
In 2011, he was named the “New Artist to Watch” at Hatch Fest European Independent Film Festival, Orion Music Festival and Sundance Film Festival.
To date, Andy has shared the stage and jammed with artists such as Leon Russell, Galactic, Jackie Greene, Gary Clark Jr, Jakob Dylan, Butch Walker, The Flobots, Deer Tick, John Mayer, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Fishbone, Luke Nelson, Corey Smith, and more.
In 2013, Frasco will be gracing some of the finest clubs and festivals in the U.S. & Europe including Yonder Mountain String Band’s Harvest Festival, Hatch Festival, and Sundance Film Festival to name a few. Word is spreading about Andy Frasco & the U.N.’s explosive and incomparable live show.
