Hailing from the plains of Uzbekistan, Raina Skar is a unique voice on the modern music scene. Born to a designer mother and cinematographer father in 1988 in Tashkent, Raina has always been surrounded by art and creativity, and was attracted to music from a young age. When she joined her school choir, she knew she would become a singer one day.

The late 1980s were times of great change and transition in Uzbekistan. As the Berlin Wall fell, music poured across the borders and into Raina’s life. Her first encounter with Queen and her childhood idol, Freddie Mercury, sent a ripple effect through her life. Inspired by Freddie’s magnificent voice, outstanding performance and outrageous costumes, Raina was determined to become a rock star. Later musical influences, such as rock artist Zemfira, inspired a powerful, rebellious undercurrent in her musical performance. By the time she was 17, she knew it was time to hit the road.

Raina arrived in Shanghai in 2005. She was not the first to be attracted to those shores. After a 40-year hiatus, the city was waking up and rediscovering its forgotten past. Opening its arms to travellers and revellers from all over the world, Shanghai teemed with life. This was the city Raina came to: brash, loud, and ambitious.

Recorded in the summer of 2013, Life. Love. Music is a culmination of the love, joy and experiences that brought a group of talented and creative people together at iconic Shanghai landmark – The Cotton Club.

Raina Skar – Vocals; Gregory Smith – Guitar; Eddy Lewis – Guitar; Jorland Paulino – Bass; Francesco Perre – Drums; Hu Danfeng – Trumpet .
