After making music together in Texas for many years earlier in the decade, these two blues heavyweights have teamed up again in the summer of 2009 to record a duo CD in Dallas, TX. The CD entitled "Livin' Life" features 14 new original songs by the two artists.

“Robin Bank$ and Christian Dozzler are contemporary blues people, rolling their own and moving their chosen music forward. They ‘get it’ when it comes to the dilemma of modern blues: that a music has to evolve or die. And on this disk, witness blues evolution. Witness blues gone World. They blend a perfect smoothie of influences in a simple piano / voice duo -- jazz, R&B, Creole, country, boogie-woogie -- but listen: their bare feet are squished right down in that blue mud, channeling it up through their bellies and into the microphone.” ~Sonny Collie

Christian Dozzler (born September 22, 1958, Vienna, Austria) is a blues, boogie woogie and zydeco multi-instrumentalist and singer from Austria, now based in the Dallas/Fort Worth (Texas) area. He plays piano, harmonica, accordion and organ, and writes most of his recorded material. He has been nicknamed "Vienna Slim"

Dozzler took classical piano lessons from the age of 5. He started teaching himself to play blues and boogie woogie on the piano after he heard this music on the radio at age 14. Eventually, he also learned playing the harmonica and guitar, and formed the 'Backyard Bluesband' in 1976, while still in high school. In 1984 he got called to co-front Austria's 'Mojo Blues Band', and toured and recorded with them until 1993. From 1993 until 2000, he led his own band 'Christian Dozzler & The Blues Wave'. In 2000 he relocated to the United States and was keyboardist for the Larry Garner band from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, for two years. He settled in the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, area in 2002 and continued his solo career. As of 2010, he performs mostly solo piano blues in North America and Europe, but also plays with Texas blues bands like Anson Funderburgh & The Rockets, Mike Morgan and the Crawl or 'Hash Brown & The Browntones' on a regular basis. ~Wikipedia

Christian Dozzler & The Blues Wave - 2 albums: Smile Awhile / Take It Easy

Christian Dozzler was born into a musical family in Vienna, Austria on September 22, 1958. He started getting classical piano training when he was five years old. At age 14 he fell in love with the blues and has continued this romantic relationship ever since. Solo piano blues and boogie woogie were the starting point and are until now a major part in Christian’s work. In 1976 he formed his first group, the "Backyard Bluesband", where he also played harmonica and guitar. 1981 was the year when he decided to make a profession out of his musical addiction, he also picked up the accordion after discovering Zydeco-music.

The years from 1984 till 1993 Christian spent as the co-frontman of Austria’s "Mojo Blues Band", and started recording and extensive touring throughout Europe. Frequently working with American blues artists on their European tours widened his musical horizon and made him an experienced player in many different styles of blues music.

From 1993 till 2000, he had his own band again, "Christian Dozzler & The Blues Wave", where he could finally bring the whole diversity of his talent into play. The program was a musical journey from Chicago Blues, Boogie Woogie, Rhythm & Blues to Swamp Blues and Zydeco, and anything in between. Especially the Louisiana music would soon become a trademark of this band. Four CDs resulted from these years.

Boogie-Woogie is more than just a strange name, it is an American Icon. Get ready for time travel! Otmar Binder, an Austrian piano player who served as accompanist for many singers and actors, holds on to memories of his favorite music from childhood - boogie-woogie - and here joins with BJ Cole and Christian Dozzler who form the Otto Binder Trio. This album is completely devoted to boogie-woogie music and it not only stirs memories on another time, it also stirs the soul.

For those who are unfamiliar with the history of boogie-woogie, the following is offered to instruct: `Boogie-woogie is a style of piano-based blues that became popular in the late 1930s and early 1940s, but originated much earlier, and was extended from piano, to three pianos at once, guitar, big band, and country and western music, and even gospel. While the blues traditionally depicts a variety of emotions, boogie-woogie is mainly associated with dancing. The lyrics of one of the earliest hits, "Pinetop's Boogie Woogie", consist entirely of instructions to dancers:

`Now, when I tell you to hold yourself, don't you move a peg. And when I tell you to get it, I want you to Boogie Woogie!'

Boogie-Woogie is characterized by a regular bass figure, in the left hand. The bass figure is transposed according to the chord changes. The earliest documented inquiries into the geographical origin of boogie-woogie occurred in the late 1930s when oral histories from the oldest living Americans of both African and European descent, revealed a broad consensus that boogie-woogie piano was first played in Texas in the early 1870s. Additional citations place the origins of boogie-woogie in the Piney Woods of northeast Texas. "The first Negroes who played what is called boogie-woogie, or house-rent music, and attracted attention in city slums where other Negroes held jam sessions, were from Texas. And all the Old-time Texans, black or white, are agreed that boogie piano players were first heard in the lumber and turpentine camps, where nobody was at home at all. The style dates from the early 1870s."

Now, history lesson complete, settle back and be dazzled by the artistry displayed by these phenomenal musicians. There are 17 tracks, variously penned by Binder, Cole and Dozzler and there isn't a weak track among them. Hearing the piano played in this manner brings a new appreciation to the technical skills this music form demands. This is a classy recording with some of history's greatest proponents of a style of music that, thanks to them, will never be forgotten. ~Grady Harp

Christian Dozzler multi-instrumentalist from Vienna, Austria has been performing all over the world for over 30 years, can be heard on some 30 blues CDs, and has made the US his home in 2000. It all began, when he heard boogie woogie on the radio for the first time at age 13. He immediately quit his classical piano lessons and dove head-on into the world of blues and boogie woogie. In his first band a few years later, he also played guitar and harmonica besides piano and vocals. Later, he added the accordion in the cajun/zydeco style.

For nearly 10 years, Christian was the co-frontman of Vienna’s Mojo Blues Band. Working with a long list of US-blues artists on their European tours has widened his musical horizon and made him an experienced player in several different styles of blues music. From 1993 till 2000 he took his own band Blues Wave on the road all over Europe, and released 4 CDs that received international critical acclaim. He won awards in Austria for “Blues Artist of the Year” and “Best Blues CD of the Year”, and was nominated as “Best European Blues Artist” and “Best European Blues Singer” at the Trophees Blues France awards.

These days, he performs mostly solo on both sides of the Atlantic, as well as with Texas blues-legends like Anson Funderburgh, Mike Morgan & The Crawl or Hash Brown & The Browntones.
