Twenty-four years after it was founded, British band The Cadillac Kings are still active, giving their attractive and hot blues all over United Kingdom and all European corners. The group has undergone some changes, but they still keep the punch and groove that only experienced musicians can have, as well as a personal sound that makes them unique and makes always people get up from their seats and start to dance.

With this sixth album, band founder Mike Thomas wants to pay tribute to all the great musicians who, over the years, have been in his band. That’s why the album back cover details all the band different line-ups, since its beginning until reaching the one from 2018 and up to date, which includes Mike Thomas on vocals, harmonica and slide, Mal Barclay on guitar and vocals, Jason Reay on drums, Paul Cuff on bass and double bass and Timm Penn on piano, accordion and vocals.

Twelve songs give shape to this excellent album full of groove, houserockin’ blues, Zydeco, jump blues, Texas and Chicago blues. This is a multivitamin recording that overflows strength, intensity, joy and hot rhythm, as all the musicians show and communicate the terrific rhythm and vitality of a music that will catch listeners from the beginning to the end. Fifty-five minutes of a fantastic mixture of sounds can be found in this impressive recording which has been mixed at the Ealing Central studios by Richard Manwaring (Talking Heads, Eric Clapton, Van Morison, John Lee Hooker, Tina Turner, Status Quo or Chick Corea among others).

This is certainly one of the best UK blues bands you should really not miss, because if you do not pay attention to The Cadillac Kings you will always regret it.

The Cadillac Kings new album "The Secret of My Success" is their fifth album and coincides with the band's fifteenth anniversary as one of the UK's top blues & roots acts. The new 14 track album maintains the high standard of its predecessors "Lou Ann" (2001), "Highway 17" (2004), "Trouble in Store" (2008) and the live "Gonna Tell Your Momma" (2012). Only frontman Mike Thomas remains from the first release, and his wry and ofter dark lyrics are well to the fore here, with a whopping ten self-penned songs, joined in the current excellent line-up by Mal Barclay (guitar), Tim Penn (piano, accordion), Paul Cuff (bass) and Roy Webber (drums). The Cadillac Kings truly excel as a live band and you can hear their on-stage fun and musical prowess on the album. They create a five-man blues party with a mix of West Coast flavours, Louisiana Swamp, New Orleans rhumbas, some rockin' R&B and accordion rockers, by way of a health dose of Bo Diddley and Jimmy Reed.

Cadillac Kings recent album, Gonna Tell Your Momma, has the clear sound essential in a quality live recording. The show was recorded live in Norway, featuring some of the UK's top blues and roots musicians, the Cadillac Kings are probably the favourite band on the UK and European Jump Jive scene. Their sound is inspired by the styles of the 1940s & 1950’s and perhaps some early 1960’s Rock ‘n’ Roll, the kind of thing that suits bryl cream and energetic jiving, and which tips its hat to Muddy Waters, Bo Diddley, Louis Jordan, and others. This is a band with a reputation for wowing their audiences, from intimate clubs to major festivals, from theatres to dance-halls, the length and breadth of the UK and Europe. Along the way the band has picked up numerous awards including The Times' best blues CD of the year 2004 for 'Highway 17' and Canada's Real Blues Magazine's award for best UK blues act and CD 2009 for 'Trouble in Store'. If you like their music – and the more contemporary, twangy, but equally bright Big Boy Bloater – you’ll really enjoy this. Ding Dong Daddy stands out for Mike Adcock’s bursts of lively accordion. Mike Thomas’s strident vocals are a great listen on songs like the opener, Gonna Tell Your Momma, while Gary Potts contributes vocals reminiscent of Jerry Lee Lewis and cool amplified harmonica on Somebody, a very fine song also featuring some memorable guitar licks. Just a Matter of Time is a song about the arrival of old age. Pleasingly, the tune is as bright and bubbly as its lyrics, such as “The girls ignore you at the bar/ the last time you got lucky was when you found your car/ old age is coming.” Finally, the album features some top boogie woogie piano – this time like Jerry Lee Lewis on keys – from Henri Herbert. Henri also includes a stunning original tune, Boogie Hamar. Often, you can hear the audience having a fine time.
