Guitarist, harp man, and singer Robert Lighthouse puts together a smart collection of Delta-inspired blues. There is a very logical development in song structures from the beginning of the disc to the end. Lighthouse brings John Lee Hooker and the less flamboyant side of Jimi Hendrix together in creating his own blues voice. The singing and strumming in the beginning of the disc resembles The Healer, smoothly progressing toward how Hendrix might sound today -- a steady rock beat with plenty of lyrical leads but no unnecessary show. The disc is evenly split into a dozen covers and originals. In order, Lighthouse interprets "Going to the River" and "Going Back South" (Isaiah Ross), "Voodoo Child," (Hendrix), "Talk to Me Baby" (Elmore James), "Shake for Me" (Willie Dixon), and "Crossroads" (Robert Johnson). ~Tom Schulte
