Slim Harpo brought a good bit of the Louisiana swamp vibe with him when he recorded these immortal singles for Jay Miller's Nashville-based Excello Records in the early '60s, and the rustic, laconic way these recordings unfold, aided and abetted by Miller's trademark echo-laden production, makes them singular even inside the Excello stable.

This two-disc set has everything essential that Harpo released, including his biggest songs "I'm a King Bee" (and its many variations like "Buzzin'"), the gorgeous "Rainin' in My Heart," "Baby Scratch My Back," the two-part "Tip on In," and "Te-Ni-Nee-Ni-Nu," as well as various B-sides and other ephemera that all add up to a complete look at this unique musician. By rolling country and swamp blues together up into a completely new place, then sprinkling in just a touch of Jimmy Reed, Harpo created a body of work that has been as impossible to re-create as it has been influential. All the proof is here. /Steve Leggett, AllMusic

Robert Finley - Black Bayou

11. Alligator Bait (6:10)

From the depths of the Louisiana swamp rises the latest album from Robert Finley, the 69-year-old critically acclaimed blues artist who began breaking through over the last several years after decades of singing blues and gospel in small clubs and churches. Black Bayou fits so seamlessly into the wider blues cannon that it’ll be hard for listeners to remember being without it. Finley has said this new album is a tribute of sorts to Louisiana, where he has lived most of his life. As a whole, Black Bayou’s lush melodies are as satisfying as a warm meal after a long day of grueling work. The album feels well planned and well executed, which makes it almost surprising to learn that the material largely came together on the fly in Easy Eye Sound’s Nashville studio.

The musicians who supported Finley on Black Bayou created the parts they contributed “spontaneously” and often worked quickly enough to capture what they needed in a single take, according to the album’s press materials. In addition to Auerbach’s production work, Finley is supported on Black Bayou by his daughter and granddaughter, Christy Johnson and LaQuindrelyn McMahon, both of whom provide vocal support. He’s also joined by drummers Patrick Carney of The Black Keys and Jeffrey Clemens, Eric Deaton on bass and Kenny Brown on guitar. The album’s polish impresses on the first listen, with the knowledge of its recording process only compounding its success.

Part of what makes Black Bayou so timeless is its dedication to traditional blues themes. The album opens with “Livin’ Out a Suitcase,” a song about the pros and cons of a nomadic lifestyle. Finley confronts betrayal on “Sneakin’ Around,” lust on “Can’t Blame Me for Trying,” loneliness on “Nobody Wants to be Lonely” and longing on “You Got It (And I Need It).” Finley also explores classic blues styles, with “Sneakin’ Around” calling back to a quickly recognizable rhythm structure embraced by countless artists and “Waste of Time” deploying jangling keys to compliment guttural guitar in a roadhouse blues-style track.

Perhaps most refreshing about Black Bayou is its wide tonal variety. While “What Goes Around (Comes Around)” steadily gains momentum until it reaches its rumbling chorus, “Miss Kitty” is slow and methodical, with its likely Black Keys influence coming across through its haunting vocals and echo effects. Album closer “Alligator Bait” stands far apart from the other 10 tracks due to its talking blues style, with Finley sharing a story of the distrust passed down through generations after his grandfather used a young Finley to entice alligators. At just over 6 minutes, “Alligator Bait” is the longest song on the album and its most unique, with Finley’s deep voice building suspense in that old blues storytelling style, ending the album on a strong note.

While Finley’s 2021 album Sharecropper’s Son was primarily an autobiographical project, Black Bayou brings to the surface the elements of Finley’s time in Louisiana that most impacted him as an artist. The album is a humble exploration of the swampy sounds and rhythm & blues storylines that Finley has been immersed in for decades, with these elements shining all the brighter for Finley’s spotlight. /Riley Hollon, Blues Rock Review

Since he released Lie to Me in 1997 at the age of 15, Jonny Lang has been marked as the next great blues guitarist. Sure enough, with Wander This World Lang, still at the tender age of 17, has managed to present a classic blues/rock album that avoids simply rehashing the sounds of guitarists like Eric Clapton and B. B. King. Lang's bluesy rock guitar comes roaring in strong with "Still Rainin'," which meshes strong riffs, piano and Lang's heartfelt and earthy voice with some incendiary solos. "Still Rainin'" is the perfect introduction to a new, more mature Jonny Lang - although no one would accuse Lang of having a "traditional" voice, his husky tenor gives otherwise standard blues lyrics a bit of heart. "Second Guessing" slows the pace a bit, with a fairly traditional but still affecting blues ballad. More impressive guitar work carries this uplifting tribute to a shy, withdrawn object of affection.

Canadian born Johnny Rae Lee from Toronto, is a blues artist, singer songwriter and crafty guitarist, quoted at Etna in Blues Festival as having “ the right combination for stardom a warm enchanting voice and a style in playing and composing that is worth listening to, a combination of the past and contemporary blues, both electric and acoustic styles are present in this artist’s songs, his blues is easy listening, he is a genuine story teller who is able to capture moods and incorporate authentic feelings in all his songs” Coming from a family of musicians has certainly encouraged an inner growth in regards to performing and communication through music. A bit of the Past Johnny Rae Lee discography includes “Stories” (June 2016), a collection of acoustic and electric blues, which touches various life stories and experiences lived both by the artist and stories of everyday people seen through his eyes. With great affection “Dreaming” was written just after the 2015 terrorist attacks in Paris and is dedicated to France and its people as a message of hope and change. “I got the blues on my mind” quoted from the track Blues On My Mind, the artist starts to understand that blues is what he wants to do at a very young age and so decides to go on a music study trip to Mississippi and New Orleans to hang out and play the blues with the musicians of the area. When he returns to Toronto he continues to play blues in various bands. In 2000 he is invited by Eco Art to participate in “Young International Talents” which takes him on a small tour in Sicily and Italy during which he meets Corrado Della Luna a blues drummer who he will play with during the tour and become great friends and music partners, He then is called to sing and play with the Rolling Papers Blues Band (2005 -2010) where they become very active in the Blues festival scene and playing at the Alcamo Blues & Etna In Blues Festivals and opened up concerts for great blues artists like Eric Bibb, Popa Chubby and Daniela Cotton just to name a few.

Born December 6, 1953, North Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada. Sherman’s natural ear for music began developing at an early age. There were many musical nights of singing and dancing at the Doucette’s home when he was a young boy. Family, friends and neighbours would come to join in the fun. His father played the fiddle and the banjo, his brother played the guitar and his grandfather played the harmonica. His mother, sisters and aunts all sang and danced. Sherman left home at fifteen with a harmonica and a twenty dollar bill in his pocket bound for the west coast to Vancouver, British Columbia. It was there that he discovered the Chicago blues style on an album featuring Muddy Waters, Junior Wells and James Cotton. He soon began singing and playing in a series of local blues and rock bands. By the age of seventeen, he had developed a style of playing greatly influenced by the late great Paul Butterfield. It wasn’t long before he was performing with the best bands in Vancouver. On numerous occasions he had the great privilege of sharing the stage with such greats as legendary players as John Lee Hooker, Albert Collins, Sony Land Slim, Pinetop Perkins, Jim Byrnes and Long John Baldry. In 1977, he amazingly survived a massive explosion in a lumber mill which left him in the hospital for six months recovering from burns to over 50% of his body. Sherman really earned the name “Tank” after this fight for life. Now more determined than ever, he embraced his true calling and began focusing all of his time and energy on his music. Three years later, Tank formed his own blues band, “Incognito”. The band was at the forefront of the Vancouver music scene. They released three independent CD recordings toured extensively across Canada. Sherman also began making guest appearances with other groups, composing and recording jingles in the recording studio, and collecting harmonicas.

Big George And The Business - The Alleged Album

Big George and the Business are a four piece Blues Rock Band from Glasgow, Scotland. Over the years the band has developed from a 3 piece to even a 7 piece band at one time. At the present the band is in it’s most successful and talented line-up, Consisting of Big George (George Ross Watt) on Guitar and Vocals, Shifty (Tam McLucas) on Bass, Tommy (Fingers) McIntyre on Piano and Keyboards and Gregg (Orbit) Orr on Drums. With 3 studio albums, 2 live albums and 20+ years of experience of touring the western world, BGB have rock ‘n’ rolled their audiences, leaving them with memories of being blown away by the sheer intensity and passion of the show. George Ross Watt (Big George) was born in Glasgow, Scotland in 1958 and brought up in the slums which housed the shipyard and engineering workers. It was a beginning that gave him a lust for life and made him uncompromising on the music he loved and composed, and as the years have rolled on has shown that he has a god given talent to write and entertain. After playing in the typical local band circuit for many years, he was hired by one of his all time heroes, James Dewar. James Dewar was another Scot with a god given talent of performance and musical ability and played with such bands as "Stone the Crows" and the "Robin Trower band". Unfortunately after four years the partnership came to an end, when James Dewar was forced to retire through ill health. When this situation arose Big George knew the time was ripe to form his own band and as a consequence of these events, we now have "Big George and the Business". In the initial stages Big George tried a number of different formats and local musicians until he found himself with a three piece band. He was joined by Greg Orr on Drums and Tam McLucas (Shifty) on Bass, Shifty also took over the management of the band and his organisational skills propelled the band onto the next level. This version was rapidly acclaimed for their raw, gutsy, uncompromising style of Blues, and it was only a short time before they were nationally recognised. Releasing their first album "The Alleged Album" only further enhanced their growing reputation for a rockin' style of Blues, which no other UK band could match. With a good management structure and the release of the Alleged album the band hit the touring circuit travelling extensively throughout the UK, Europe and Scandinavia. When time permitted the band eventually managed to return home long enough to write and record their second album, "All Fools' Day". By this time their reputation had spread across the Atlantic and they were invited to appear in the Montreal Jazz festival, hard rock café, Theatre St Denis and other venues in Quebec and Ontario in 1992. Since those days the band have made frequent returns to Canada and America and have graced many a stage with the likes of Buddy Guy, Larry Davis, John Campbell, Bo Diddley, Mick Taylor, to drop only a few names. While in Canada in the late 1990's the band recorded half of their next album, "Home of the Wolf", in Montreal. The title track of which was inspired by Big George being made an honorary member of the Mohawk nation following a gig at the Kahnawake reservation. While the first album was gutsy and raw and the second saw the band expanding with piano and other instruments, the Home of the Wolf album explodes with the potential shown in the first two. It has now shown George graduating from an accomplished guitarist to one of the finest guitarists, singers, writers and Producers that was ever to grace a stage in the world of the Blues. In addition to his work in the Blues world he has also worked widely in the world of television penning and performing for many highly acclaimed UK television programmes. In recent years in between touring George also involves himself with the local community, in the teaching of many kids in music and in particular guitar tuition. He has also now produced and recorded a large number of young up and coming bands from all over Scotland in his custom built studio. His patience and diligence in this field has earned him great praise from the local community in which he lives. With smoky tones that would make Joe Cocker jealous and a style of guitar playing that would have had Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan nodding in approval, Big George is an unforgettable performer who has thrilled crowds all over the world for several years. Wherever this band travel, they take no prisoners and leave no one in any doubt………….that they are………..The Business.

The late great Lazy Lester was a singer, songwriter, harp blower, band leader, educator and innovator. The Louisiana legend created a legacy of eclectic music that drew many disciples from all over the world. Two accolades, Spaniard harp master Emilio Arsuaga and Austin based Blues legend Greg Izor have created a fittingly joyous homage to their friend in Lazy Lester Forever. Pulling together a group of “Friends of Lazy Lester,” Arsuaga and Izor have put together a collection of tunes, most of which written by Lester, that memorialize the diverse aspects of the master’s career. This record is a family affair. Recorded in Austin, TX at Izor’s home studio this record is live and in the moment and has the ebullient feel of absolute monster players having fun. Guitarist Eve Monsees and her husband drummer Mike Buck were part of Lester’s band. Lester sang the song “Real Combination For Love,” which Izor absolutely slays on vocals here, at the couple’s wedding. Lester six stringer and Austin transplant Grady Pinkerton locks in with his former band-mates. Austin mainstays Emily Gimble on keys and vocals and Randy Glines on bass along with percussion work from Carlos Arsuaga, from Emilio’s band the Mad Reeds, round out the session.

And with Europe’s fastest-rising young vocalist and Louisiana’s hottest R&,B crack-squad running the show, resistance is useless. If you’ve not yet met Ghalia Vauthier, prepare to fall hard for an artist on the cusp of big things. Rewind to 2013 and Ghalia’s rise began with an apprenticeship busking on the streets of her native Brussels and double-duty in her two early bands, The Naphtalines and Voodoo Casino...

The Belgian singer Ghalia Volt moved to the USA years ago to search for her blues roots. And as evidenced by this second album, released under the name Ghalia, that has been an excellent success. The album was recorded at the Zebra Ranch studio, owned by legendary producer Jim Dickinson and Ghalia is assisted on this album by Cody Dickinson (drums, known from The North Mississippi Allstars), Cedric Burnside (drums, yes, the son of), Lightnin' Malcolm (guitar, also known from The North Mississippi Allstars), Watermelon Slim (harmonica), Dean Zucchero (bass) and Smokehouse Brown (guitar). The sound on this album can be described as very unpolished. Blues in which you experience the roughness of, for example, R.L. Burnside can be found in the searing guitar work. And then Ghalia's singing... One moment she sounds seductive, the next moment bitter and fierce, but always bluesy!!! You can hear her in her seductive role in the quite sultry, almost swampy, Gypsy Lady, in which you can also hear the vicious cutting guitar work. The atmosphere remains sultry in Meet You Down The Road. A lazy blues shuffle with cutting and buzzing (slide) guitar and howling harmonica. And of course Ghalia's subdued and therefore seductive vocals. She sounds naughty in Squeeze. A hopping shuffle with a stiff, fuzzing guitar that produces both a loud screeching and piercing solo. Ghalia also goes on a “decorating tour” in Shake & Repeat. This song sounds like a very dirty version of “Shake Your Money Maker”. A sultry hard boogie with Ghalia as a true blues vamp. First Time I Died is a heavy funky blues rock song with a mean cutting sound and grim vocals from Ghalia. Lucky Number also has a funky drive. A loose, uptempo, grooving song with pumping harmonica and burning guitar work. Together with Lightnin' Malcolm, Ghalia sings a lazy cover of the gospel classic Wade In The Water. The sultry funky Release Me has an irresistible driving groove with yearning vocals and dirty bluesy guitar work. Why Don't You Sell Your Children is a Canned Heat-like boogie, lazy and tedious, which changes into a flaming tempo acceleration halfway through. Ghalia takes a fiercely rocking farewell in her own unique way with I Thought I Told You Not To Tell Them. So seductive but with an ever-present fierceness. With this more than excellent blues album, the name of Ghalia (Volt) seems to me to be definitively established in the blues scene!

The album was recorded at the Rancho de la Luna studio by David Catching in the desert near Joshua Tree Park. “After all my travels, I was looking for a quiet, secluded place to record the CD. It is so quiet, a very unique atmosphere and it would have sounded different if it had been recorded somewhere else, especially because local top studio musicians participated. My previous albums are more based on country and traditional blues and now I have something more psychedelic, a bit of rock from the seventies." There are twelve songs on the album and a lyric booklet is included. They open rhythmically with 'Every Cloud' and that has a catchy beat, organ solo and beautiful voice changes. In 'Changes' the vocals are strongly reminiscent of the seventies singers, such as those of the B52's and with tearing guitar riffs and excellent guitar solos. Then it becomes uptempo rockabilly with suitably pointed guitar work in 'Can't afford to die' and excellent rhythm section work. Sitting still is not possible here! Acoustic dobro intro, beautiful vocals, slow, languid psychedelic sounds through the guitar sound characterize 'Insomnia'. The combination of music and voice is fantastic. Then follows the title track 'Shout sister shout' and the lyrics stand up for women's rights. Gospel choir and a wonderful lowndown rhythm with wah wah guitar complete it. 'Happy Home' is nice and up-tempo again with nice drum rhythms and here the slide guitar appears. Nice song. There is a wonderful shuffle in 'She's holdin' you back' with a lot of slide guitar playing. Intro with some distorting guitar playing and heavy rhythm playing give 'Can't have it all' a somewhat chaotic character, a slightly weaker song than the rest, but a nice groove. This is followed by the uptempo, rocking 'Hell is not gonna deal with you'. It has nice breaks, vicious vocals and a Ray Manzarek The Doors organ sound and rhythm. The cheerful 'Hop on a ride' was written with Eddy V. and is followed by 'Dog Ya around', which has a quiet beginning, slow groove and is wonderfully laidback. Very well sung with choirs and a screeching guitar solo. The album closes with the vibrant, cheerful rock and roll-like 'Po'boy John' with nice piano as it should be with rock and roll. Great ending to a great album Conclusion: Shout sister shout is not an everyday blues or blues rock album. It has its own style due to the variety and singing in the songs. Very different from her previous CD, but that is also Ghalia Volt's intention. Definitely worth a listen.

The 1980's found Frank pursuing a solo career as a soul singer. Besides numerous club gigs, one of his singles even found its way into Billboard's "Top Singles Picks" - in the category "Black Music"! But Frank Biner's love for the blues never faltered, and within the last couple of years he has again been able to earn a living by playing his favorite music. And Frank's blues are not soft or souly, as one might expect from his past career. No, he sings'em dynamic, down and dirty. He shouts his mostly self-written lyrics out with the fervor of a TV preacher, and when the lights turn low, his voice still has the raspiness of years of tears …

Born in Oakland, California, Brenda Boykin has made a career out of her love for jazz, blues, big band, early rock 'n' roll, and honky-tonk music. Her refreshingly diverse repertoire shows no racial barriers, and she is just as likely to sing a song by Buck Owens as one by Muddy Waters. (One of the descriptions of the music played by Boykin and her band, Home Cookin' is 'afrobilly.') Her reworking of T For Texas, is Jimmie Rodgers meets B. B. King, with Boykin all but obscuring Rodgers' melody, changing the key from major to minor, and creating an entirely new song out of the original lyrics.

The Fieldstones are still revered in Memphis for providing some quality live blues in the 1980s, when such music was almost unknown in the city. Their 1983 album is reasonably fun, but not exceptional, modern electric blues with a more spontaneous feel than most of the discs coming out on higher-profile indie labels of the time; the guitar playing especially has a higher and lighter feel than the norm. /Richie Unterberger, AllMusic

One of today’s most electrifying guitarists of the genre, Stevie Cochran epitomizes the sound of modern Blues-Rock. Poignant guitar solos emphasize his soulful melodies; the evocative lyrics culled from self-effacing personal experiences or reflecting on daily-life occurrences. Achieving greatness through simplicity, this is 21st Century Blues from a larger-than-life persona. Stevie Cochran is a strong vocalist, a gifted songwriter, and an ace guitarist. He started playing guitar in 1966, at the tender age of eight. Born into a musical family he was first taught Jazz, but as a youngster soon succumbed to Beatlemania and the British Invasion of Blues Rock. At this point an electric guitar became an essential tool. By 1968 Stevie was listening nonstop to the music of Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton, developing his very own serious lead guitar chops around 1973. Since the mid-nineties Stevie has regularly been touring Japan and Europe, and the electrifying Blues-Rock guitarist has played the Montreux Jazz Festival five times.

Blinddog Smokin' - High Steppin'

6. If I Died Today (5:43)
7. Big Behind (3:54)
8. Lady's Playin' (4:42)
9. Tell 'Em Reprise (3:04)

Based in Southern California, Blinddog Smokin' are a thoroughly modern 21st century blues band - a good-time party band as indebted to the sleazy, slippery rhythms of funk as they are to slow-burning soul and juke joint blues. Blinddog Smokin' first formed in 1994 but they didn't find their way into the national spotlight until 2014, when they backed Bobby Rush on the Grammy-nominated Decisions, a project that helped push their 2015 album, High Steppin', to a greater audience.

Blinddog Smokin' had been gigging regularly for a full two decades prior to that mid-2010s breakthrough. Singer/harpist Carl Gustafson formed the first incarnation of Blinddog Smokin' with drummer/vocalist Chicago Chuck Gullens back in 1994, when they were both in Laramie, Wyoming. Over the years, the group has been more of a collective than a band, with Gustafson being the mainstay and other players rotating in and out. Junior Bacon - born Roland Pritzker - is another more recent mainstay, joining the band in 2003, and keyboardist Mo Beeks became a regular in 2009; guitarist Chalo Ortiz came aboard in 2013, by which time the band also had Chris White and Linda Gustafson as backing vocalists.

During this time, recordings came at a steady pace, all showing up on Crying Tone Records, and Carl Gustafson also blogged about his experiences leading the band, writing that helped form the basis of his 2010 memoir, Ain't Just Blues It's Showtime: Hard Times, Heartache and Glory Along Blues Highway. This book, combined with the ever-increasing crowds Blinddog Smokin' attracted, helped the band switch to Silver Talon Records in 2011, a move that helped increase their profile.

Up from the Tracks was their first album for the label, showing up in 2011, and then in 2014 they supported Bobby Rush on Decisions. The record turned into a hit, earning a Grammy nomination for Best Blues Album, and Blinddog Smokin' capitalized on the success with their 2015 full-length, High Steppin'. /Biography by Stephen Thomas Erlewine, AllMusic

You can’t unshake the feeling. “I’m Not Free” is a bit slower paced, so we have a great variety of tracks. Jon Wong’s saxophone shines in “Trouble” and “Jack, Jim, Johnny, and Me.” Everyone’s talents pool together creating a great blend in “I Will,” specifically the opening.

Felix Cabrera can shout the blues and blow a mean harp. But the Cuban-born bandleader also has a knack for rolling with the punches. The day before this Friday night gig, Phil Butler, Cabrera’s bass player for the past 11 years, was injured in a car accident. Then Guitar ace Jimmy Vivino, a frequent and popular addition to the band, was called out of town with Conan O’Brien. But Cabrera was undeterred. He contacted bassist Ritt Henn, who played in his band twenty years ago and has filled in before. Fiery blues guitarist Jason Green, one of several local players who have rotated through Cabrera’s band, answered the call too. With longtime drummer Bill Schroeder and keyboardist Eddy Bishai, the subs rocked this small basement club and solidly showcased Cabrera’s Latin blues style. The self-taught Cabrera, who left Cuba as a child and came to New York by way of Miami and Union City, NJ, calls Paul Butterfield his first influence. He saw the original Butterfield Blues Band at a New York City club in 1966 and almost always starts his show with their songs. “Driftin’ and Driftin’” featured Cabrera’s emotional vocals, crying guitar from Green and jazzy organ from Bishai. The band likes to stretch out and jam, and as they took turns riding the groove, the warm-up caught fire. The intensity on the bandstand continued to build until Cabrera took it down with a small hand gesture. Even with little or no rehearsal, he seemed to be in complete control.

Quiet The Dog is a blues solo artist from the American south. Writing, playing, recording, and producing from the small town of Elkmont, Alabama, Quiet The Dog creates a guitar centric mix of several styles of blues inspired music, from the raw, riff-based guitar sounds of “Justified” to the acoustic melancholy of “Leaving Something Behind”. While the music meanders from rock into dark instrumentals, it is heavily based in the 12 bars and the three chords of the blues. Quiet The Dog has released three albums and is currently recording a yet untitled fourth album.

Formed in 1991, the group debuted in 1994 with the Icehouse label release It Ain't Easy, a showcase for their clear affection for the gritty sound of giants including Howlin' Wolf, Little Walter and Slim Harpo; Live at B.B. King's followed a year later, and in 1998, the Radio Kings returned with Money Road. /Biography by Jason Ankeny, AllMusic

Formed out of veterans of the Detroit music scene, the Smokin' 45s are bringing fans their special blend of Rock and Blues. Their live show takes the music up a notch, taking cues from the American electrified Chicago Blues sounds and adding their own zeal to the sounds in a nod to the British Blues and British Invasion movements homages to the established master. The Smokin' 45s borrow from the catalogs of those from which they've drawn their inspriation in their live shows and add their own music which stands tall next to that of their well-established influences. There's no room in these sets for long, drawn-out, self-indulgent solos. These sets are packed with heart-pumping, foot-stomping rock and blues with a distinctive Detroit drive.

Slidin' Charlie & Boo Shake - Slidin' Charlie & Boo Shake

Styles: Swampy Blues

1. Try Me (3:29)
2. Bourgeois Blues (3:03)
3. Between You and Me (4:16)
4. Driving (4:22)

7. A Long Time Ago (3:19)
8. Once I Had a Girl (2:59)
9. When You Got a Good Girl (3:56)
10. Bad Thoughts (6:12)

Sitting on the front porch of a shack overlooking the Mississippi , or under the veranda of a typical farmhouse in our beautiful Sicily , little changes except the view. What remains - and this is the important thing - is the sound that comes out of this, finally, first album by the couple Slidin' Charlie & Boo Shake , which smells of that swampy blues that comes from the great American river and which resonates wonderfully to any latitude. Carlo Pipitone and Giuseppe Buscemi have been pursuing their music for years, made up of a deep love for the Stars and Stripes blues but - also - of much other music, whether of African-American or white origin . Here lies the difference with many "purists" who, although good, have not been able to escape from useless musical boundaries but, on the contrary, the duo in question can boast plays that range from bluegrass typically from the Appalachian hills, to jazz, rock and punk , which if we then think about the blues of the origins owe a lot. There are two of them but they seem like a complete band, with Slidin' Charlie playing the guitars and singing it for us, while Boo Shake bangs on his drums which is a pleasure and you can't keep your foot still even if you put the best putty on it. this world.

11. Just a Fool (7:16)
12. Tears Fell Down Like Rain (3:47)

This is the bands first release from 1999 and is a great example of contemporary blues sounds. A first rate, soulful singer and harp player, Racky has an excess of talent in the songwriting department along with collaborator & bassist Todd Carson. After a decade of playing around the Boston area, the band has been building an audience along the east coast and developing into a fine traditional band. Once again, Nick Adams adds tasty string bending to the proceedings with shades of TINY GRIMES and HOLLYWOOD FATS evidenced. This is excellent modern blues...........
