Peter Green is a legend, hardly any British blues guitarist has influenced subsequent generations of guitarists with his subtle style like the founder of the Fleetwood Mac blues line-up. This includes Gregor Hilden, who since his debut album Guitar Deluxe (1994) now has an enormous back catalogue of his own albums. In addition to his own compositions, there is at least one adaptation of a Green title on each of his albums.

After the Gregor Hilden Organ Trio's first two highly acclaimed CDs/LPs, "New Boogaloo" is now their third album which contains subtle, intimate, blues-jazz sounds, funky grooves and a host of carefully and elaborately produced tracks! Studio technology was used intensively to refine the sound spectrum with various guitar tracks. Bandleader and producer Gregor Hilden demonstrates a fine knack for delicate arrangements, using electric and acoustic guitars with elegant solos as well as rougher riffs on various vintage instruments.

Half of the tracks are written by Hilden himself - mostly co-compositions by Hilden and organist Wolfgang Roggenkamp, who can also be heard singing on two of the songs. Guest musicians such as saxophonist Volker Winck, trumpeter Christian Kappe and the famous vocalist Soleil Niklasson add color and variety to the exciting mix of blues, R&B, funk - and a good dose of rock.

Gregor Hilden, Hans D. Riesop & The Tone Company - Compared To What...?

Album: Compared To What...?
Size: 104,5 MB
Time: 45:06
File: MP3 @ 320K/s
Released: 1996
Styles: Blues/Jazz/Soul mix
Art: Full

1. Body And Fender Man (4:11)
2. I Wouldn't Tread A Dog (4:34)
3. Compared To What (5:05)
4. I Wonder Why (3:20)
5. The Rain Blues (3:32)
6. The Blues Is Still Around (6:24)
7. Harlem Stomp (2:42)
8. I Feel Alright (3:08)
9. Second Hand Blues (2:58)
10. This Is The Way (3:48)
11. Alabama Blues (5:19)

Blues, soul, rocky interludes and groovy jazz are on the program of the Münster guitarist Gregor Hilden. With countless performances and a total of 12 CDs and a live DVD under his own name, he has been active in the scene for a long time and has now become internationally known. The trade magazine "Guitar and Bass" dedicated several features to him, pointing out influences from Peter Green and Larry Carlton and giving his playing ratings such as "economical, flexible and elegant". This characterizes Hilden's music - a melange of blues, jazz and soul - very accurately.

Hilden's playing is not dependent on attributes such as "better", "faster" or "more spectacular", but rather impresses with a soulful style that is not characterized by pigeonholed thinking, but rather has highly individual notes. The musician makes this clear on his last CDs “Blue In Red”, “In Phase” (2015) and “First Take” (2018). The electric guitar is the "voice" of the primarily self-written tracks, all of which reflect the protagonist's diverse stylistic interests: blues, funk, jazz, soulful pop and R&B. But the musical arc that Hilden draws is comprehensive: springy, singing guitar lines meet crisp funk rhythms, swinging phrasings meet atmospheric ballads and rousing grooves.

Special attention is also paid to his own compositions - 50 to 80% of the titles per CD are written by Hilden, and own arrangements of well-known and lesser-known pearls of music history complement each other perfectly. A varied mix is to be expected in any case.

14. All Your Guitars Sound The Same (2:29)

The late 1950s and early 60s were the golden era of organ trios, when virtuosos such as Jimmy Smith or Larry Young and earthy, blues-based Hammond masters such as Brother Jack McDuff or Big John Patton recorded legendary albums and rocked smoky clubs with guitarists such as Kenny Burrell or Grant Green. The Gregor Hilden Organ Trio celebrates those times on their vintage instruments – on the present album with original compositions in the old style such as the title song “Vintage Wax”, as well as a classic of the genre, Jimmy McGriff’s “All About My Girl”. But the trio of the guitarist from Münster, Germany goes far beyond that and broadens the stylistic range with soul power, funk grooves, mellow moods and – just like they did on their “First Take” album – with a surprising instrumental version of a hit melody.

Gregor Hilden once again underpins his renown as an extremely versatile guitarist with deep blues roots who makes every note count instead of wasting too many. He has by now become an institution on his instrument with an immediately identifiable own style – which is also appreciated by almost 90,000 followers and millions of listeners on his YouTube Channel. As before, the outstanding organist (and on two tracks singer) Wolfgang Roggenkamp is equally featured with his fluid solos, rhythmic chording and bass pedal work – perfect command of the Hammond vocabulary paired with creative inspiration. Hilden and Roggenkamp have also penned over half of the songs on this album together. Groovemeister Dirk Brand is also on board again, providing rock-solid beats and tasty breaks. /Klaus Kilian

Blues, soul, elements of rock and groovy jazz are on the program of the guitarist Gregor Hilden. With countless appearances and a total of 12 CDs and a live DVD under his own name, he has been active on the scene for a long time and has now become internationally known. The specialist magazine "Guitar and Bass" has dedicated several features to him, highlighting the influences of Peter Green and Larry Carlton and confirming his playing with predicates such as "economical, flexible and elegant". This characterizes Hilden's music - a blend of blues, jazz and soul - because it is also extremely applicable.

Hildens playing does not depend on attributes such as "better", "faster" or "spectacular", but rather convinces with a soulful style, which is not characterized by a drawer thinking, but has highly individual notes. The musician makes this clear on his last CDs "Blue In Red", "In Phase" (2015) and "First Take" (2018). The electric guitar is the "voice" of the primarily self-written titles, all of which reflect the perfomer's diverse stylistic interests: blues, funk, jazz, soulful pop and R&B. The musical arch that is stretched by Hilden is extensive: springy, singing guitar lines meet crisp funk rhythms, swingy phrasing on atmospheric ballads and rousing grooves.

Gregor Hilden & Richie Arndt - Moments 'Electric'

Size: 117,6 MB
Time: 50:04
File: MP3 @ 320K/s
Released: 2019
Styles: Electric Blues, Blues Rock
Art: Full

01. You Don't Love Me (5:14)
02. Born Under A Bad Sign (4:35)
03. Congo Square (5:19)
04. Straight Ahead (4:22)
05. Hear My Train A Coming (6:37)
06. Coming Your Way (4:33)
07. Stop (5:14)
08. Fool No More (5:44)
09. Rock 'n' Roll Junkie (3:16)
10. Oh Well (5:07)

In addition to the two protagonists, "Moments Electric" also includes bass player Sascha Oeing and Peter Weissbarth (drums). They are known from Richie Arndt & Band , who published Back To Bad in early autumn 2018 .
Three other people complete the line-up of this record. Kellie Rucker uses the harmonica,Wolfgang Roggenkamp plays the Hammond B-3 organ and Tine Vonhoegen sings the backing vocals.

The unknown pearls mentioned are probably not Peter Greens / Fleetwood Macs "Oh Well".
Neither would "Hear My Train A Coming" by Jimi Hendrix or the "Born Under A Bad Sign" known from Albert King from his Stax album of the same name come into question.
A piece of jewelry that may not be as well known is "Congo Square", which is on Sonny Landreth's record "South Of I-10". Then we will immediately listen to this number. Peter Weissbarth and Sascha Oeing guide us on the track, accompanies the piece with wonderful keyboard colors. Even if we are currently dealing with the third track on the disc, it becomes clear what independence the two guitarists and the other musicians represent. With this personal interpretation, the Bottleneck has been completely dispensed with. Great how the song gets a completely different focus through this move. The accentuated rhythm is reflected in the six-string solos. Great!

The composer Peter Green or Danny Kirwan and Fleetwood Mac form something like a focus on "Moments Electric".
"Coming Your Way" is developing into a fabulous guitar competition, which the rhythm duo pushes mightily forward. The eardrums are sensitized to another track from the corner.
"Fool No More" is on Peter Green's "In The Skies". "Moments Electric" is correspondingly relaxed in slow driving. You seduce the listener to dream. There are plenty of guitar excursions by both bluesers and they are captivatingly fascinating. The album is followed by one treat after another.
What you do with the classic "Oh Well" catchy tune is an unexpected gift that gives you a lot of joy after unpacking. No more is to be revealed at this point.

In the first song Gregor Hilden & Richie Arndt devote themselves to the Allman Brothers Band and their "You Don't Love Me". When interpreting with a well- behaved harp player Kellie Rucker , you want to change the song title to positive. Excellent!
The "Kanzellen-artist" is once again part of "Hear My Train A Coming". Hey, this number is from Jimi Hendrix and in a good six and a half minutes the protagonists & Co. transform the piece into a slide dramaturgy that makes you lose your grip. In the sensual intermezzo with wah wah sound, gravity is disabled with respect to the jaw. Highlight!

"Rock'n'Roll Junkie" by the Dutch eccentric Herman Brood should also be unexpected . A choice with foresight. It is not only here that Tine Vonhoegen's choral singing is well received. The piece has groove, of course rock'n'roll à la Gregor Hilden & Richie Arndt and is becoming a first-class dance number.
For the guitar freaks, the equipment of the two guitarists is listed and also specified who you hear in which channel. We hear Richie Arndt's guitar inserts in the left speaker and Gregor Hildens on the right.

From the remarkable "You Don't Love Me" to the terrific "Oh Well", Gregor Hilden & Richie Arndt are at the forefront of the high art of interpretation.

Gregor Hilden: guitar, vocals; Wolfgang Roggenkamp: B-3 organ, vocals, percussion; Dirk Brand: drums. Funky, bluesy, jazzy – when three confirmed and famous musicians from Germany’s R&B scene release a CD featuring an organ trio, it’s bound to be a musical highlight.

Everything sounds spirited, blues-and groove-focused, and that is what makes it special, since one normally associates classic organ trios with traditional jazz music. The debut long-playing album, “First Take”, features seventy-four minutes of music, which become eighty minutes on the double LP thanks to two bonus tracks. Most of the cuts on this album were written by guitarist Gregor Hilden – who was also the initiator of this project. They are rounded off with a few classic gems. This is music that wanders along the edge of blues, soul, jazz, and is steeped in the technical moods and spontaneity of the three protagonists. Improvisation, groove, and upbeat spirit: This concept delivers a bewitching and diverse listening experience with a high level of musicality and fun.

Playing with his 1959 Les Paul, Hilden brings to fore jazz-laden phrasing, concise and economical noting, and a need for classical renderings within the blues. One of the most beautifully sounding guitarists around, Hilden also has dynamite support from a high quality team of German and American musicians. Sounding like seasoned accomplices, Hilden and crew lay out some tight ass music on this biscuit. Instead, you'll discover in Hilden, a seemingly trained guitarist in love with jazz and doing the blues. Pure and powerful with every note wrung for its own weighty and artistic worth. Instrumentals with super backing, wonderful jazz inflections, and a brooding blues fever, Gregor Hilden puts out a strong set of jazzed-fused blues to wet your appetite. When it's done, I'll bet you shake your head and play it over! This young lion has created a sensation with the European Jazz and Blues fans.
