12. Life Is A Wonderful Gift (3:05)
13. As I Look Into Your Eyes (Feat. Mariano Morbioli) (4:15)

In Italy, singer/guitarist Roberto Morbioli has already become a major blues name. He is active on many fronts, such as with his band Morblus. With Morblus, he has released a new album, ‘Make It Right’, the successor to the 2018 album ‘From The Scratch’. On this album, Morblus proves to be a very versatile band that does not focus solely on the blues. In fact, there is also plenty of room for soulful and funky music.

Down In Mississippi opens the album in a pumping and funky manner with Roberto’s burning, biting slide guitar and his matching venomous vocals. I Don’t Wanna Be A Star is subsequently more relaxed and heads in the grooving soul-blues direction with scorching guitar work once again. No Gettin’ Over You sounds, despite the title, upbeat and has a light, funky groove. Then the blues returns in the languidly driving shuffle Blind Love, with Roberto’s lazily piercing guitar playing a key role. Music Is My Rainbow follows as an angular, funky, grooving blues number with fierce guitar work.

Mariano Morbioli, Roberto's son, provides the vocals on two songs. The first is When You Love Somebody, an intimate, warm ballad, and the second, As I Look Into Your Eyes, an intimate, grooving soul-blues number. Mariano turns out to have a lovely, soulful voice. Wonderful Time heads in the swaying, soulful Bill Withers direction with nice jazzy guitar playing. Funk features prominently, such as in the loosely funky Groovin’ Up with clear Tower of Power and James Brown influences. The instrumental Kathmandu is also funky, but much rawer and bluesier. Roberto doesn't shy away from Southern Rock either. Alabama Soul Brothers is, in fact, a sultry rocker with a swampy atmosphere. A wonderfully versatile album from a great Italian blues talent! /Peter Marinus, Bluestown Music

Morblues is an authentic live band, without doubt the most American among the European funky blues bands, gifted with an irrepressive energy that cannot but transmit during its concerts.

The best introduction for Morblus is its bursting impact on the stage, the immense adrenalinic charge that flows onto the public, never compromising the high technical level of the band. Since the beginning Morblus has searched for a technical merging with the funky, R&B horns section called Boomer Horns, even exploiting occasionally the groove of a talented harpist.

Williboy Taxi - Down the Road

Size: 216 MB

11. S.U.R.T. (Sardinia-Usa Round Trip) (3:12)

William Rossi, also known as Williboy Taxi, lives in Sardinia, Italy. But, to listen to his latest album, Down the Road, you’d imagine he’d be right at home in the center of Clarksdale, Mississippi. Inspired by the music of John Lee Hooker, Leadbelly, Robert Johnson and many more, this guitarist, harmonica player, songwriter, (and taxi driver), has released an excellent album of acoustic blues. All the tracks are original songs (with the exception of a brief sampling at the beginning of the album of an acapella version of “C.C. Rider”). Rossi is joined on nearly every song by Vittorio Pitzalis, who contributes resonator guitar, acoustic guitar and a little electric guitar. And, the second song, “Baby Don’t Cry” features a beautiful and tasteful addition of the violin, played by Anna Maria Viani. There is no fault to be found in the musicianship of these artists, and at times Rossi’s playing appears to show a John Hammond influence. Rossi also has some beautifully poetic lyrics in his songs, often powerfully portraying the experience of melancholy. For example, in “Hurt and Pain” he states “All my life is a train that gives off hurt and pain. When I look at the time it always seems too late. In the morning I feel alright. In the night I take everything with me in a grave.” And, in “Possession of You” he notes, “You threw it all away because you were tired. It’s a kind of depression that brings tears to my eyes, but that all keeps me moving and makes me stronger.” The only downfall of this album is that in a few of the songs the lyrics can be a bit repetitive and fall short of a complete story. But, overall, fans of acoustic blues will find this album very enjoyable and will want to add it to their collection

Jimi Barbiani Band - Still In Love

Album: Still In Love
Size: 102,2 MB
Time: 44:15
File: MP3 @ 320K/s
Released: 2026
Styles: Blues-rock
Art: Front

1. I Miss The Rock'n Roll (3:23)
2. We Must Dream (4:27)
3. Spend Me Your Light (5:59)
4. Going Lazy (6:21)
5. Little Martha (2:16)
6. Purple Rain (7:50)
7. Mr. White (4:30)
8. Silent Pool (5:00)
9. As The Crow Flies (4:24)

The Jimi Barbiani Band is the current project of Italian blues rock slide guitarist Jimi Barbiani, who is considered one of the best in his field in Europe. His style is influenced by Jimi Hendrix, Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Beck, Free, and Gov't Mule. The band's unique sound is created by the interaction of its members' different personalities. A driving rhythm section lays the foundation for the maestro's brilliant and impressive guitar playing.

The band's three albums ("Back On The Tracks", "Blue Side", and "Boogie Down The Road – Live!") not only sold very well in his home country, but also found fans in the US. Videos by Jimi Barbiani sometimes reach over 500,000 views. Before heading back on tour through Europe in winter/spring 2026 – there are also a few festivals lined up – the new LP "Still In Love" will be released on CD, vinyl, and of course digitally.

The centerpiece of the album is the almost eight-minute version of Prince's "Purple Rain". Here, Barbiani pulls out all the stops – the genius from Minnesota would have loved it. But the JBB also masters quieter and gentler tones, as the dreamy acoustic instrumental track "Little Martha" shows. The initially slightly sluggish "Spend Me Your Light", on the other hand, exudes plenty of Southern feeling, while "We Must Dream" pays homage to boogie – somewhere between Canned Heat and ZZ Top. If you like down-to-earth, catchy blues rock, this is the place for you.

Personnel: Jimi Barbiani (guitar, vocals); Andrea Tavian (bass); Ian Zavan (drums).

Her powerful voice and her exceptional, sometimes raunchy stage presence, her professionalism and her determination have earned Sandra Hall the nickname of “the Empress of the blues". A native of Atlanta, Sandra Hall grew up nearby in a small town where her grandfather was a pastor. Along with her sister Barbara, she began singing gospel at the age of four, with their grandmother at the piano while their mother was on tour, also singing gospel. Eight years later, the two sisters set up the Soul Sisters and began to sing in clubs. From 1965, Sandra Hall was a singer and dancer in the Exotics, a female group that occasionally opened for artists whose tour passed through Atlanta. This allowed her to rub shoulders with big names in soul and blues, such as B.B. King, Otis Redding, Bo Diddley and Etta James.

After about ten years, her career takes on another dimension and it is now under her name that she sings, tours and records. However, she could not always lead a full-time musical career and was sometimes required to work as a nurse, dancer or stripper. She also makes the choice to take the time to raise her daughter. Despite these intermittences, her career is rich in numerous American but also European tours (Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Netherlands, France). She has shared the stage with legendary artists such as James Brown, B.B. King, Johnny Taylor, Otis Redding, Bo Diddley, The Temptations, The O'Jays, Etta James, Mavis Staples and Jimi Hendrix.

Sandra Hall recorded the excellent “Showin' Off” (1995) and “One Drop Will Do You” (1997) for Ichiban Records, a major label based in Atlanta. “American Roots: Blues” (Ichiban, 2002) compiles tracks from these albums while “Miss Red Riding Hood” is self-produced from 2001. In the summer 2003, Sandra Hall met with members of Gnola Blues Band starting an intense collaboration that continues today with a series of concerts to major festivals in Italy and Europe. It also resulted in the the release of the album "Red Bone Woman" (2007), eleven tracks of which nine are signed by Roger Mugnaini and Maurizio "Gnola" Glielmo.

Personnel: Sandra Hall (vocals); Maurizio "Gnola" Glielmo (guitar, background vocals); Roger Mugnaini (piano, Hammond organ, background vocals); Tix Cimaschi (bass); Max Bertagna (drums); Max Negri (saxophone); Lilian Stoimenov (trumpet); Sugar Blue (harmonica tracks 1 & 9).

Eva Carboni - In the Name of the Blues

Size: 127 MB

3. In the Name of the Blues (3:46)
4. That Devil Man (3:14)
5. Independence Street (2:48)
6. We Come Alive (3:56)

Eva Carboni is a singer from the Italian town of Sassari, Sardinia. She studied at the Vocal Power Academy in Los Angeles under the guidance of her vocal coach Elisabeth Howard (who coached Sting and Lionel Richie, among others). Besides her musical adventures, she is also the co-founder of the Birdland Jazz Club in Sardinia. In 2019, she debuted with the album "Italia Square" and is now working on her third album, produced by Andy Littlewood (also on guitar, bass, and keyboards) and featuring Andrius Linsdell (guitar, dobro, resonator guitar), Pete Nelson (drums), and Mick Simpson (guitar). Eva Carboni's musical style is rock, infused with bluesy influences. It's a style that sometimes evokes the work of Alannah Myles or Pat Benatar. The Alannah Myles sound is immediately apparent in the opening track, "South Wind Blow." A sultry, undulating track, gently propelling with Eva's powerful vocals and Andrius Linsdell's biting acoustic guitar. This is followed by the vicious, angular rocking "Stony Ground" featuring Mick Simpson's fiery guitar. "In The Name Of The Blues" is electrifying with Andrius Linsdell's warm dobro. "That Devil Man" is then a biting, pumping bluesy rock number, followed by the sultry, abrasive "Independence Street." Eva closes with the power ballad "We Come Alive," in which Mick Simpson's screeching guitar plays a starring role. Eva Carboni is a powerful singer from whom we'll be hearing a lot more. A great album indeed!

Every now and then we get completely absorbed in compiling our own playlists—well, I certainly do. In all that enthusiasm, I sometimes seem to overlook a beautiful, artist-curated compilation…as is the case with The Blues Archives by Italian Eva Carboni. Previously unreleased tracks, deep cuts, and remixes together on one album can sometimes result in a disjointed whole, but that's not the case here at all. The term "eclectic" does provide a nice umbrella for the eleven tracks; Eva Carboni switches effortlessly between different styles, supported by a select group of more than excellent musicians. "Someone Else's Life" opens the album, and its pleasant slow blues approach perfectly complements Carboni's nightclub-like vocals. It's tempting to draw comparisons with other contemporary singers in the blues and related genres, and here and there, they do appear. However, it may be a testament to Eva’s qualities that any comparison made is inapplicable as she has simply found her own sound and voice. Turning My Back On The Blues transports you to a late-night nightclub, complete with billowing smoke and clinking cocktail glasses, while the singer playfully and sultrily provides the audience with warming entertainment. The following track, "Bad Blood," is dirtier and rawer, a stark yet enjoyable contrast to the song before it, and certainly the one that follows. On the more soulful/jazz-influenced "Something's Gotta Give," she perhaps sounds most radio-friendly without being overly polished. On the keyboard-driven "Unfinished Business," or the relaxed "River of Life," which relies more on a repetitive guitar riff and organ, Eva Carboni absorbs it, makes it her own, and makes the result sound effortlessly natural. The closing track, "Wrong Turn," further emphasizes that she deserves all the attention she's received and is rightfully gaining popularity. A "compiler" so early in her career is a bold move, especially considering the intent, but in the case of The Blues Archives, it proves to be a successful one. It puts Carboni and all her talent where she belongs, in the spotlight.

11. Missing A Flight In Da Lou (4:30)

Slam, the new album by Marco Pandolfi and Umberto Porcaro, is an intimate and inspired project, entirely acoustic, featuring 11 original tracks. Slam is the result of the artistic meeting between two musicians with a long history in the blues scene, here exploring a more essential and profound sound. The result is a musical journey that blends the storytelling of folk with the soulful roots of blues, offering stripped-down yet emotionally rich ballads immersed in evocative, almost cinematic atmospheres.

Recorded with artisanal care and attention to detail, Slam tells stories and evokes feelings through voice, guitars, and harmonica, striking a perfect balance between expressive power and delicacy. /Bluestown Music

Paolo Bonfanti (guitar and vocals) and Roberto Bongianino (accordion) play acoustic versions of the songs from Paolo Bonfanti's latest CD, Exile on backstreets. The title of the CD is a double homage to the Rolling Stones and Bruce Springsteen; the songs, all original, are inspired by the Blues as well as the American singer-songwriter tradition. The CD is the most oriented towards "black music" in all its possible nuances of the entire production and the songs speak of gray areas, of existences on the margins, of those who often feel excluded and are always forced to fight to live, but they are also the vindication of a lifestyle outside of trends and fashions and a space of concrete resistance to resignation and passivity.

Sugarpie & The Candymen - Waiting For The One

Picture Duke Ellington jamming with Prince, the Beatles with Django Reinhardt on guitar, or Louis Armstrong playing with Beyonce: this is a good starting point to define Sugarpie and the Candymen – Lara Ferrari (vocals), Jacopo Delfini (manouche guitar and harmonies), Renato Podestà (electric guitar and harmonies), Roberto Lupo (drums), and Alessandro Cassani (double bass).

Their trademark, since the beginning, has been to rework rock and pop anthems in a retro style that evokes jazz manouche, big band swing, and early rock and roll, with vocal and instrumental arrangements that are both virtuosic and humorous. They haven’t only gained the admiration of their concert audiences: their take on Bohemian Rhapsody has been publicly lauded by none other than Queen’s guitarist himself, Brian May.

Sugarpie and the Candymen have also been writing original material, and with each album the band’s sonic palette has expanded, becoming less and less philological and more and more open to other musical influences. This path has led them to perform at some of the most renowned festivals in Europe and beyond, such as Umbria Jazz, Montreux Jazz Festival, Madrid Jazz Festival, New Orleans Jazz in Tel Aviv, Jazz and Wine in Georgia, and countless others.

In 2014 they met Renzo Arbore, Italian TV and radio legend – and a jazz musician as well – who fell in love with their sound, and a fruitful collaboration was born. With him, the band participated in several national radio and TV broadcasts, such as Che Tempo Che Fa and Celebration, as well as in the album Arbore Plus (2017).

After nearly fifteen years together and six released albums, Sugarpie and the Candymen continue to defy expectations and blend their eclectic influences into an infectious mix, which has brought them on stages from Berlin to Dubai, from Paris to New Orleans, in more than 1,000 concerts.

Sugarpie & the Candymen began in 2008, when five musicians from Piacenza and Cremona – small towns in Northern Italy – decided to share their passion for swing, manouche jazz, blues, soul, pop, and vocal close harmonies. A band was born, with the challenge to marry all these musical styles.

The band is made up of singer Miss Sugarpie, aka Lara Ferrari, and her Candymen: Jacopo Delfini (gipsy guitar and harmonies), Renato Podestà (electric guitar, banjo and harmonies), Roberto Lupo (drums) and Jacopo Sgarzi (double bass). From 2008 to early 2016, the lead vocal chair was held by Georgia Ciavatta. Very soon the band became a full-time commitment, starting an intense tour in hundreds of jazz clubs around Italy and Europe.

This first period allowed Sugarpie and the Candymen to work out both their sound and their repertoire: their musical caleidoscope has the most diverse artists one close to the other, such as Led Zeppelin and Django Reinhardt, The Beatles and Bessie Smith, Van Halen and Benny Goodman, Guns 'n' Roses and Ray Charles, Queen and Peggy Lee and so on. In 2010 the band kept evolving and started writing and performing their original songs, both in Italian and English. They started playing the bigger stages of prestigious festivals all around Europe, and they even did a brief US tour.

Sugarpie and the Candymen have released three albums under the IRMA Records label: the first, eponymous, "Sugarpie And The Candymen" in 2009, the second one "Swing'n'Roll" in 2011 and the third "Waiting For The One" in 2014. To further enhance their sound, the band had the opportunity to collaborate both live and in the studio with some brilliant Italian and American musicians, such as Michael Supnick, Dean Zucchero, Paolo Tomelleri, Rudy Migliardi, Gregory Agid, Davide Ghidoni, Gianni Di Benedetto and Mattia Cigalini.
