The Chicago Blue Stars were Charlie Musselwhite's road and recording band. Musselwhite was signed to a solo contract by Vanguard records, and Blue Thumb signed the band. Because of the contractual split, Musselwhite does not sing as a member of the Chicago Blue Stars, leaving those duties up to the rest of the band members.
The band was comprised of a mix of blues legends (Jack Myers, Fred Below) and promising newcomers (Freddie Roulette, Skip Rose) who, in concert, provided a perfect setting for Musselwhite's vigorous harp playing and vocals.
The group recorded only one LP for Blue Thumb before dissolving as a unit in 1973 as Musselwhite began changing his band personnel with every subsequent recording.
