Michael Wayne Avery is a fresh face on the Blues/Carolina Blues/Beach Music scene. The man understands that energetic and captivating performances mixed with great lyrics, memorable melodies, and uplifting tempos are a recipe for a surf side success!
Fans have already recognized him from the hit “Candy’s Coming Back to Town” which was included on both his Greetings from Myrtle Beach CD and the SISBRO Records’ Carolina Shag IV compilation CD. As a teen, Michael took guitar lessons from Red Fenton, the man who once sold George Harrison his first Rickenbacker electric guitar the year before Beatlemania swept through American by storm. After a few chords and being amazed at how long Red could keep the ash on his cigarette before it fell off during guitar lessons, Michael hung out with a local family that played nothing but bluegrass. That foundation of clean acoustic playing taught him to listen judiciously to other players and to think in terms each instrument playing different parts. That sense of respect for the music above the notion of show-boating, stayed with him during his early development and throughout his body of work which has encompassed many genres. Hearing the arrangements of Stephen Stills on the first Crosby, Stills & Nash album, help Michael Wayne to understand that, above all, every single note that is played serves the song itself. That journey has led him to his latest release, his second in the Carolina Blues/Beach Music style.
