Well done Lenny, this is another feather to put in your multi-talented cap. You've made it into my dedicated computer's big juke box, between (alphabetically) Lene Lovich (remember her?) and Leon Redbone. The dude from Dudley can certainly sing the Blues like the best. The title track has a Gil Scott Heron feel to it, then we get treated to another and yet another good track, all the way through to the end, mixing RnB politics side by side with Blues classics. Lenny's rendition of 'Back Door Man' can hold it's head up next to Howlin Wolf's powerful version any day, and that is no small achievement. 'The Stealer' is treated to a more funked up approach than the Paul Rodgers original with 'Free', but sounds just as stonkingly good. The album has a very appealing competence to it with excellent backing vocals and instrumentation. Mind you, the harp player could have blown a bit harder in places. As an aside, I think Hugh Laurie could do with some help with his ropy vocals. Maybe Lenny could turn up to lend him a hand sometime, releasing Hugh to his talent of tinkling the ivories like a demon. I hope we get more albums from Lenny. He has a real musical talent and is not just a celebrity chancing his luck for a quick buck. ~Eamonn Kelly
