Since that first night, Connie decided she never wanted to leave. Together they have shared that stage since.

Connie burst onto the blues scene making her debut at the “Great British R&B Festival at Colne and never looked back.

And of course singing at BB Kings Club, Beale Street, not to mention singing on Hollywood Boulevard.......Then there was Glastonbury. But most of all for Connie has to be touring UK with the late, great BB king, culminating in a show at the world famous Royal Albert Hall London. Connie herself said “Nervous? I was both nervous and ecstatic at the same time! Not only was I on stage at the Albert Hall, but BB King was listening backstage!”

Connie is also known as a songwriter, DJ and unforgettable performer. Connie continues her love affair with audiences everywhere, bringing her enormous gusto for life and music wherever she goes! Blues is her business and business is good!

and is dedicated to Dave.

The Fabulous Ripcords can be heard most weekends in CNY rippin’ through Roots, Rock-a-Billy, Country, Blues, Swing, and music influenced by both New Orleans, Bakersfield and more. The Ripcords have performed across the northeast to crowds in New York City and Boston as well as their home in Central New York. Some of the many stages they've graced include: the New York State Blues Festival, Taste of Syracuse, Central New York Jazz Fest, the Inner Harbor Block Party, Performance Harlee Davidson, Stage of Nations Blue Rain ECOfest and the Ganondagan Native American Festival. Outside of New York The Ripcords have played Saratoga Race Track, Brockton Blues Festival - MA & EarthDance - Napa Valley, CA. Within a rehearsal day, the Bluesman from Alabama and the band from the Rhineland are developing a program with which they will give a concert the following evening: Live in Haus Eifgen, Wermelskirchen.

"Ride with Mule 5" brings together 12 songs of this outstanding Blues encounter. Including blues classics, which Tommie has heard as a little boy in the Juke joints of the American South, as well as newer original compositions that his "funky state of mind" account.

One of the highlights is the title track of the CD: a homage to Tommie Harris, who Till Brandt composed especially for the concert: If the Blues hits your life, ride mule 5!

Wildmen Bluesband was founded by flamboyant guitarist Jos de Wilde. As a guitar teacher, he has inspired many students to pursue a professional or non-professional career. In 2011 he started with Wildmen Bluesband and after a few changes the band now stands as a house.

In Saskia de Nijs (vocals) Rob Meijran (drums) Mark van Lieshout (bass) and Ruud Vuijk (Hammond) he has found an ideal group of people to play the BLUES!

There is an energetic band on stage, from which sparks fly during a spectacular performance!

The mighty blows of Saskia, the challenging guitar solos of Jos, supported by the solid rhythm section of Rob and Mark, leave no one untouched.

Each member has extensive experience in other blues bands, which guarantees a broad base in the blues.

Wildmen Bluesband plays their own blues, from ballad to up-tempo blues. The coming third CD will mainly consist of these own compositions. On stage this is interspersed with blues by, among others, Elmore James, Freddie King, Buddy Guy, Koko Taylor, Peter Green and many others. The band gives those songs their own twist and given the reactions of the audience this is greatly appreciated.

Inga Rumpf was one of the best-known German R&B singers. Her voice often drew comparisons to Janis Joplin, but Rumpf was able to develop her own unique vocal style. Catapulted to stardom in the ‘70s with her band Frumpy, she released a number of highly acclaimed solo works in the ‘80s and ‘90s and came to be regarded as the grand old lady of German R&B. Whereas other German female vocalists such as Nina Hagen faded away over time, Rumpf consequently followed her path and never compromised herself artistically.

Jaye Hammer, the southern soul singer who went blind from a detached retina at the age of twenty-six, has quietly amassed an impressive resume over the course of a half-dozen albums. His 2005 debut was followed by a fallow period during which the blindness descended, a seemingly more cruel fate (having seen the world and lost it in adulthood) than singers like Clarence Carter, blind from birth, or Ray Charles, whose blindness became complete by the age of seven.

Delta producer Aaron Weddington, who had discovered Hammer as a gospel-singing child prodigy, introduced him to Ecko Records' John Ward during this perilous transitional period, and Jaye's five albums for the Memphis label between 2012 and 2017 have positioned Hammer as a solid if second-tier contemporary southern soul performer, lacking only a significant "breakthrough" single in his quest for wider popularity.

The original Bluesman with a Minivan, Tom "T-Buck" Buckmiller enlisted Matt Woods as producer and primary guitarist. Together they created a blues record for the blues fan! This record features several of the blues styles that influenced Tom in his development as a blues man.

Tom Buckmiller grew up in south-central South Dakota and in high school worked as a radio DJ for KWYR am/fm where he developed a love for music. Tom learned to play guitar so he could play in church, but quickly found other uses for his guitar...including entertaining crowds with rock and roll and the blues.

As a bluesman in Des Moines, Tom plays with Jimmy the Weasel and fronts Tom Buckmiller and the Tone Tailors, who recently took 2nd place in the Iowa Blues Challenge Finals.

This record features Iowa Blues Hall of Famers: Dwight Dario, Bob Pace, Scot Sutherland, Heath Alan Pattschull and others.

Tom teaches a blues class at Drake University. In that class Tom brings in some of the best local blues players (including Bob Pace, Matt Woods, Rob Lumbard, Dwight Dario and others) and takes the class to a local blues club and a recording studio.
The purpose of the class is to connect college students with the local blues community to "help keep the blues alive."

When producer Bob Thiele launched Flying Dutchman Records in 1969, he also introduced two other imprints to give his new company depth and breadth: Amsterdam for pop material and Bluestime to concentrate on the developing blues boom. Thiele had been in charge of ABC’s Bluesway label, where he had made records with many vintage blues artists. He opened Bluestime with albums by three of those performers: “The Real Boss Of The Blues” by Joe Turner, “Sweet Giant Of The Blues” by Otis Spann and “Every Day I Have The Blues” by T-Bone Walker.

Genial piano player Otis Spann had been a key member of Muddy Waters’ band. Born in Jackson, Mississippi, Spann moved to Chicago in the mid-40s, working as a plasterer by day and immersing himself in the city’s vibrant music scene by night. Muddy Waters wasn’t looking for a piano player but liked Spann so much he agreed to take him on. Over the next few years Spann played on some of Waters’ best-loved records, including ‘Got My Mojo Working’ and ‘I Just Want To Make Love To You’, also adding his unique style to recordings by Sonny Boy Williamson, Little Walter and Chuck Berry.

It was this heritage which made Spann a respected figure amongst blues revivalists. Leaving Waters’ group in 1968, he made a flurry of recordings, including an album with Fleetwood Mac as his backing band. It was at this point Bob Thiele invited him to record for Bluestime. In addition to a version of ‘Got My Mojo Working’, his “Sweet Giant Of The Blues” album was largely made up of Spann’s own songs. His playing was as fine as ever and his voice was in good form. Unfortunately, his health had been compromised by years of alcohol abuse and he died a few months later aged just 40. /Dean Rudland

13. Tennessee Waltz (3:39)

The official blues party band of Martha's Vineyard steps up to the plate with this debut disc featuring 13 tunes from the band's voluminous set list, including four originals from the pen of bandleader/harmonica man Johnny Hoy. Johnny's wife Barbara plays a rock-solid, nuthin'-fancy bass that drives the rhythm section, even with no less than three different players occupying the drum stool during the recording of this session. Jeremy Berlin's boogie piano is exceptionally fine, and he just may be the secret weapon on this album.

Co-producer Danny Kortchmar contributes great guitar on six tracks, while Buck Shank provides a twangier approach on "Little Upsetter," "Johnny McEldoo," "Young and Restless," "Hidden Charms" and a duet between the Hoys on Willie Dixon's "Howlin' for My Darling." The originals stand up nicely against the set staples, and the singing is fresh and invigorating (particularly compelling is Hoy's chromatic turn on "Tennessee Waltz"), making this one potent party album. /Cub Koda, AllMusic

Blues vocalist/harmonica player Gary Primich has crafted a righteously rollicking effort with "Dog House Music." He channels the ghosts of rockabilly and jump on the energetic opener, "Mr. Lucky," then launches into the expansive, good-time blues-rock of "Dog House" (which contains echoes of the Band's rocking Americana). On the slower side, Primich settles into the wrenching ballad "That's What Love Was Made For" like an old comfortable shoe, his heartworn pipes spilling all over the track. "Elizabeth Lee," one of the highlights here, is a searing, sinister blues rocker that tears the doors off the roadhouse and features Primich's Elmore James-influenced singing and blistering harmonica leads. Gary Primich is a grand, vibrato-laden belter and this is top-notch modern blues that contains all the right echoes of the past. ~Erik Hage

A big city blues/r&b revue with strong vocals and tough horns -- plus Larry Burton's guitar. The grooves run deep and the feel is that of a live show.

Over a span of thirty years, "Chicago" Carl Snyder worked with more than sixty of the Windy City's blues artists, most extensively with Junior Wells, Otis Rush, Son Seals and Jimmy Johnson. He played on two albums that won the Handy Award, two more that were nominated for Grammies, and appeared in a film, "Blues Highway," that was nominated for an Academy Award. At one time he was also the pianist at Chicago's famed Second City Theater. He has performed in over 40 states and eleven foreign countries.

Since moving to Pennsylvania in 1996 he has continued to play blues, jazz and cocktail music in a variety of settings while operating his own record label, Lost World Music, and hosting radio shows on college and public stations.

He has played on over 40 albums so far, and is still adding to the list. In 2014 shortly after his 70th birthday, he was honored for Lifetime Achievement at the Lehigh Valley Music Awards ceremony.

With the passing of frontman Joseph "Smokey'' Holman in October of 2017 due to complications from multiple myeloma cancer, the band has brought in Gervis Myles as the lead singer and now performs under the moniker of Tweed Featuring Gervis Myles.

13. You Gotta Move (Feat. Lucky Peterson, Corey Harris & Jean-Jacques Milteau) (4:56)

Like some giants of the Blues, this pure product from Chicago has made things big and good, just to leave his mark on the blues year 2006: a beautiful cover BD style, thirteen titles for almost 70 minutes zik full speakers, and a bunch of talented guests including Jean Jacques Milteau, Martha High, Corey Harris, Lucky Peterson, Fred Wesley and others whose name will grow over the coming months, like the great Mike Armoogum on the bass, where the dazzling Hervé Samb on six strings.

Faithful to his wild fishing and exceptional showman side, Boney Fields fires your turn with titles that smack of funky blues and soul, like Get up and stand out, Never fall on your face, and of course I wanna get funky. The brass makes you pitch, in perfect harmony with the Boney singer and trumpet-maestro, training you in a blues overflowing with energy (positive) and joy (to live). Notable, the excellent We play the Blues (stamped Boney Fields), the punchy Your good thing is about to run out, signed Lucky Peterson / Jim Payne, with Lucky Peterson himself on guitar solo, and the slow steam of this galette Do not let it get you down, on which Boney will make you shiver in his crooner's voice; Guaranteed emotion if you can climb a little the sound, the night fell, with these gleaming brass and a superb Jerry Leonide keyboards. But the title that closes the album is for me THE title of this super CD, the version not to be missed of this standard that is got to move, and on which, excuse the master of the place, you find in his company Lucky Peterson, Corey Harris and Jean Jacques Milteau.

A title interpreted by a quartet of hell that alone is worth the immediate purchase of this album, one of the essentials of this mid-year. ~Frankie Bluesy Pfeiffer

I first picked up a harp back in 1973, I think it was July of that year.
I'm out in the back getting busy, when a homeboy stopped by to see what I had, that he could share. He brought this guy with him, nothing unusual about that, except the guy didn't quite fit in -- looked like a Black Panther. I just showed my hospitality by passing the doobie. After about an hour, the guy pulled out a harmonica. It looked like it had been in a fight and lost. It was missing teeth and had some stuck reeds, but he was still trying to play it with some success. He must have been very bad, cause he decided he would throw it into my garbage can. I said, "Hey wait a minute let me see that thing, I want it".
That began my love affair with the harmonica and the hypnotic effect that this little tiny instrument still has on every aspect of my being.
In 1975 I was in a band called Fresh. It was an Earth, Wind, and Fire clone. I played tambourine and also did some backup singing. So I was really in the Band for the girls… One tune by War: that is what I played on my harmonica. I had only been playing for a couple of years at this time.
I really wanted to make my harmonica work for me, so I started playing by myself; making different kinds of sounds and annoying everyone around me until 1981.
I started playing with the house band at the restaurant where I worked.
One night I was entertaining this young lady after dinner with my interpretation of Larry Adler playing "Summertime" with the Chromonica in my right hand and playing piano chords with my other hand. She said, "I know a band at the Hacienda Club in Reno that you could sit in with." That began my association with some people who were playing the Blues. I began sitting-in all over town.
I had other major interests: body-building and acting. I taught weight-training at the YMCA-Reno for eight years. In my spare time I was bodybuilding for competitions. I got some bit parts in TV commercials -- mostly parodies of Mr. T.
In August of 1985, I left my job, friends, everything. I put my belongings in storage and hit the road for Venice Beach. ~ Big Bones

It’s february 2013. A group of 4 friends, with a mutual love for Rhythm & Blues decide to accept the invitation to do a 1 time performance at their local bar. Not only did that first gig led to more requests. It was the vibe, the energy and the synergy that made the guys decide, this shouldn’t be a one time thing only. The Dynamite Blues Band is officially been formed. They play quite a few shows, finding their own energetic, raw sound. That first year of playing, writing and jamming, together as a band was the foundation of their first album: Shakedown & Boogie. Their first release, containing 13 original songs, was very well received and praised for it’s refreshing and versatile sound. The band gained notonly regional, but national attention and played some of the best festivals in the Netherlands, like Ribs ’n Blues, Zwarte Cross and Kwadendamme Blues. They showed on populair national TV & Radio shows like “De Wereld Draait Door” & Radio Veronica. Their second album: Kill Me With Your Love was released soon after. With an even more mature and developed sound. The band build a growing reputation for high energy live performances. Meanwhile their fanbase grew bigger and bigger. The end of 2018 proved to be the start of a great year for the Dynamites. After winning the Dutch Blues Challenge and taking 3rd place in the European Blues Challenge, the band played in Poland, the USA, the Azores and had one of the best days of their lives when they played a sold out show, specially held for all their loyal fans.Propelling on that amazing time, the band now releases their 3rd, highly anticipated album, containing 12 original songs: Medicine. The new album by the Dynamite Blues Band is stimulant, painkilling and extremely addictive. Influenced by the most diverse genres, the band stays true to their blues roots. The recipe is a dangerous mix of raw power, high energy and old skool songwriting. The Dynamite Blues Band made a musical prescription for every emotion. Making Medicine the only drug you need.

“Real music by real musicians” as Prince used to say. Just like Prince, the trumpet player Boney Fields is part of this generation of African-American musicians born to tame the stage.

So it is no coincidence that his playing partners are named Lucky Peterson, Luther Allison, James Cotton, Buddy Guy, Liz Mc Comb, as well as George Clinton, Maceo Parker, Fred Wesley or Bootsy Collins.

Boney Fields faithfully merges Funk and Blues, the two sides of the same Great Black Music, and he does so with the skills acquired during a career spent playing on stages all over the world.

When this child of a Chicago-based large family started his career, he realized that he could have turned bad. But growing up both to ghetto songs and Gospel songs praised by his parents, Boney Fields chose a unique voice, his own, that he enhanced with the practice of an instrument, the trumpet. The two-fold talent of this singer/trumpet player propelled him from one session to the next alongside those legends. He accompanies them in studio sessions or on stage and additionally composes – during his “spare” time- complex arrangements for brass sections like those of Tower of Power or Earth Wind and Fire.

Far from Tinseltown glitz and glam, it is on stage that Boney Fields learned the profession and enriched his artistry. The tours are long, the roads not always paved with gold. No matter the lack of sleep or number of miles traveled, being on stage is the only thing Boney Fields lives for.

And the stage is where he finally carved his own style, a retro-futuristic mix of Blues and Brass Funk. A genuine aesthetics that he deploys on records as well as on stages with his own band, an explosive septet who mastered the magical formula of the groove of the origins long ago. Everywhere they go Boney Fields & his Band leave like a highly energetic and exhilarating streak of powder.

A relentless showman, Boney Fields makes his music travel in each and every corner of the planet when invited to prestigious festivals such as Jazz à Vienne, Jazz in Marciac, Madajazzcar, Tabarka Jazz Festival… It is during these shows that he perfected the vibrant repertoire of his 6th album, a record made with the help of a renewed collective of musicians.

And it is on those same stages that one will have to come and see him play his new collection of “real“ songs performed, as Prince used to say, “by real musicians”.

Chris Bergson and Ellis Hooks’ new CD and DVD Live in Normandy - recorded in May 2018 at the BackStage Association’s Nuit du Blues festival - captures the magic of Bergson and Hooks, two modern soul powerhouses, in front of a stadium crowd. Bergson, "one of the most inventive songwriters in modern blues music," (All Music Guide) and Hooks, a singer whose gravel and honey voice “blends the soul croon and blues growl,” (All Music Guide) are in top form on this release, which is the result of almost a decade of collaboration and touring.

Elmore Magazine hails the Chris Bergson Band as, "one of the most talented bands playing today...From blazing rock to funk to soul to Delta blues and all that's in between." Live in Normandy captures Bergson and Hooks in concert backed by their longtime working European band. The dynamic performances reflect a synergy honed over years of touring together in Europe. Bergson estimates he’s played over 100 concerts with the top-notch rhythm team he refers to as “The French Connection” with Philippe Billoin on keyboards, Philippe Dandrimont on bass and Pat Machenaud on drums. “I’m so happy this document exists,” says Bergson as “it really captures the grooves we get into live and the joy we experience in playing together!”

The 12-track CD and DVD includes a new Bergson and Hooks original, “55 Miles from Bromley,” a swampy, funky groove where Hooks looks back at the small farm town where he grew up in Alabama. Live in Normandy also includes crackling live versions of Bergson and Hooks originals such as “Knuckles & Bones” and “Bitter Midnight” along with a searing, extended version of “Heavenly Grass.” The genesis of this song was a Tennessee Williams poem Bergson set to a Delta blues groove. It’s a standout performance from Bergson, where he clearly pays tribute to two of his biggest guitar influences - Hubert Sumlin, with whom Bergson performed in his later years, and the great Freddie King. Live in Normandy also features blazing versions of Bergson originals “Greyhound Station” and “Float Your Mind,” and Bergson and Hooks put their indelible stamp on covers of Sam Cooke’s “Somewhere There’s a Girl,” Little Milton’s “Grits Ain’t Groceries,” and Otis Redding’s “Nobody’s Fault But Mine.”

The Duke Meets the Earl seems like an obvious album, pairing two of New England's finest contemporary blues guitarists, Duke Robillard and Ronnie Earl, who both share the same sort of hard, clear tone in their playing (Earl actually replaced Robillard in Roomful of Blues when the latter left the group for a solo career). For Earl, who has been working in a kind of jazz blues hybrid style in recent years, it marks a return to straight blues, and with guests like Jimmy McGriff and Mighty Sam McClain aboard on select tracks, The Duke Meets the Earl has the feel of a super session. Throughout, Earl's guitar is featured in the left channel and Robillard's in the right, leading to some wonderful guitar dialogues, particularly on an epic, nearly 16-minute-long version of Walter Price's "My Tears." Another extended workout occurs on "A Soul That's Been Abused," an Earl original, which features McClain on vocals and stretches out to just over 13 minutes. McGriff brings his Hammond B-3 magic to two cuts, Eddie Taylor's "Lookin' for Trouble" and B.B. King's "I Need You So Bad," while the B-3 part on "A Soul That's Been Abused" is handled by Dave Limina. Other highlights include covers of T-Bone Walker's "Two Bones and a Pick," Magic Sam's "What Have I Done Wrong," and Earl's smooth, clear slide style on another original, "Zeb's Thing." With only eight tracks, but clocking in at over 70 minutes, The Duke Meets the Earl gives these two fine guitarists plenty of room to talk to each other, and the result is a classy set of no-frills contemporary blues, with just the slightest hint of jazz to keep it all smooth. ~Steve Leggett.

ROXY ROCA is a powerhouse of southern soul, stirring up your spirit with a gritty and infectious sound influenced as much by soul and funk legends of the late 60s like James Brown, Joe Tex, and Al Green as by early rock ‘n’ roll pioneers like Chubby Checker and Little Richard and early 70’s psychedelic funk rockers like War and Sly and the Family Stone. Formed in late 2010, the band quickly developed a reputation for getting a room on its feet and in motion with a sound that has been described as Dynamite Texas Soul — driving, horn-powered southern soul with a certain explosiveness and swagger that is distinctly Texas..

When one of the oldest continuously running blues societies in the world says you're the "real deal", that has to mean something. When blues forums toss your name around with the likes of harmonica masters like Little Walter, Jr. Wells & Sonny Boy...that has to mean something. Of course, there will always be skeptics; but to blues fans throughout the country, there is no doubt that at just 32 years old, Mikey Junior is chasing the masters at a pace that’s frightening. Growing up on the tough streets of Trenton, New Jersey, and now residing in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Mikey Junior is a self-taught prodigy. With his impressivecollection of vintage, records, tapes, CD’s and videos, Mikey spent the better part of his youth immersing himself in the world of blues music. By the time he was twenty-one he was already a road-tested player making even ardent blues purists take notice. Since that time, Mikey Junior has released an impressive eight CD releases as well as a documentary DVD. He’s been praised by blues societies as well as players for his original take on ‘old school’ styles and his latest release, ‘It Ain’t Hard To Tell’ is being hailed as a watershed effort by the blues community. Mikey Junior never set out to re-write the pages of blues history, but through his true love of the music and his undying dedication to the masters that came before him, it seems all but certain that Mikey Junior will scribe his name in the annals of blues history - right alongside the very masters that influence his every performance.

The Gales Brothers, all born and raised in the same house in Memphis, have all forged their own musical paths in the blues world, but when the three get together for a live performance or a studio outing, a treat is in store for the blues guitar aficionado. Eric and Eugene formed the Eric Gales Band, while Manuel (b. Dec. 4, 1968) took the stage name Little Jimmy King (after Jimi Hendrix and Albert King).

King has recorded two albums for the Bullseye Blues/Rounder label, Little Jimmy King and the Memphis Soul Survivors and Something Inside of Me. Eric, however, was the first family member to break out; at age 15, he signed his first recording contract and released two albums, The Eric Gales Band and Picture of a Thousand Faces. By 1991, the critics were calling him the next guitar prodigy; Gales won a poll in Guitar World magazine as "Best New Talent," appeared several times on The Arsenio Hall Show, and found some prominent fans in Eric Clapton, Keith Richards and Mick Jagger.

As a unit, the Gales Brothers released one album, Left Hand Brand, on the House of Blues/Private Music label in March, 1995. Although House of Blues has since formed an alliance with another label and Private Music was consolidated into another unit of BMG, the record should still be available. While the Gales brothers have played together all of their lives, this remains the first time they've ever recorded together in a good studio. Recorded at House of Blues Studios in Memphis, it was produced by David Z., who has also worked with Prince, the Fine Young Cannibals and Big Head Todd and the Monsters. /Biography by Richard Skelly, AllMusic

James Harman - Lonesome Moon Trance

A new James Harman album is always something worth waiting for. Rather than just getting a band into the studio and fulfilling another contractual obligation, Harman carefully crafts a collection of short stories based on his observations of what is going on around him and in the wider world. Then he records them using his vision of the sound he wants to achieve. This approach does not work for everybody, but on his latest album, "Lonesome Moon Trance," Harman shows just how effective it can be.

The album opens in stunning style with "Double Hogback Growler" where Harman serves up some excellent SBWII style harp licks, and has excellent support from Kid Ramos on guitar. Then it is all change (apart from the main man and James Michael Tempo on percussion) to set things rocking on "Lowdown Grown Up Jive." By the time you have cruised through the funky instrumental "Skeet-a-little Taste," and the highly perceptive "Piecework Politicians" - "Strictly on commission/Getting paid only when the job gets done" - you are starting to wonder when the quality is going to tail off.

The good news is... it never does. Shuffle ("Time will tell"), low and slow ("Miss Bessie Mae" - about Harman's late lamented dog, whose picture appears on the cover), whatever, it is all right out of the top drawer. Harman even offers advice on how to listen to the closer "Lonesome Moon Trance," which hints at ju-ju, although I have not followed his prescription yet.

"Lonesome Moon Trance" is the best blues album of 2003, no ifs, buts or maybes. Harman remains as keen eyed and sharp witted as ever, and his harp playing and singing are both bang on form. Add in a bunch of high class musicians, and you end up with something that comes pretty close to the perfect album. If you only buy one blues album this year, "Lonesome Moon Trance" should be it. Terrific stuff. /Gordon Baxter
