Legend has it that when the original flame of blues-infused hard rock began to dim during the latter half of the 1970s, an ember was salvaged and spirited away to the land of Sverige. There, in the caves of Umeå, it was nurtured by acolytes of the cult of the supreme riff until its virtue had been revived. Occam's razor notwithstanding, it's as likely a rationale as any for the dominion of modern Swedish hard rock and Old Man's Will are one of the brightest feats of that rekindled virtuosity. Dan brought his slide-based delta blues and Lennart his roots in the heavier Chicago blues and white British 60s blues. They let their influences merge into an exciting decoction. The result was the cult blues band Doctor Blues. A decisive milestone in the band's history was when the blues singer Karin Rudefelt entered the scene in 1996, and the vocal part of the music gained a new dimension. Nowadays, the band therefore calls themself "Karin Rudefelt & Doctor Blues".

Karin Rudefelt & Doctor Blues have toured around Sweden and performed in most blues-profile places, like the biggest blues festivals and most important clubs that Sweden has to offer. The band is regarded as innovators of blues as a genre and likes to experiment and push the boundaries of the blues into new dimensions. Yet always with both feet deeply rooted in the traditional mould.

Recorded live at the famous Mosebacke in Stockholm, Sweden, friends, family and fans of Jenny's crowded the room, but you could still sense the common sadness that this person who was loved so dearly was stricken with cancer. Then Jenny took to the stage and all that sadness melted away like dewdrops in the morning sun. The night of this concert that was recorded is a document and testament of Jenny's strength and tremendous talent. It was more than just a show, it was a victory in the face of tragedy and every soul in the house that night watched her in delight. Containing 8 tracks including live versions of her previously recorded songs "The Party is Over", "Waste" and "Coming Home".

For almost 20 years Jenny Bohman was a full time professional musician. Over the years she played with established and well respected bands like "Monaco Blues Band"and "Little Jenny & The Blue Beans". Jenny was a terrific vocalist and an extraordinary harmonica player, and during her last few years she's also worked hard on her songwriting and released her first solo album "Coming Home" in 2009. Jenny Bohman passed away in November 2010.

November 15, 2020 marked 10 years since Sweden's Blues Queen Jenny Bohman passed away. Jenny was one of Sweden's foremost blues artists and during her career touched thousands of listeners with her natural voice, harmonica and guitar playing. She participated in the Monaco Blues Band, Little Jenny And The Blue Beans and also her own band that played songs from her solo albums.

Jenny Bohman Roots Revue is a tribute to Jenny and her amazing song collection. We simply want to highlight her music and continue to keep it alive. Nisse Hellberg attended Östra Grevie folk high school, and is, together with Jalle Lorensson, the only member of Wilmer X who has been involved since the start. Hellberg also made, together with Clas Rosenberg, the comic Herman Frid, which was published in Svenska Serier in 1981.

Hellberg released the studio album Röster från Södern together with Peps Persson in 1994, and in 1995 Hellberg recorded the album The Lonely Boys together with Per Gessle, which was first released as a soundtrack to Mats Olsson's book "The Lonely Boys", which was about a Swedish pop band in the 1960s.

Hellberg began his solo career with the album Xtrem, which was released in 2001. The album contained blues where Hellberg played all instruments, except for the drums played by Stefan "Stoffe" Sundlöf. Wilmer X took a longer break, and Hellberg's solo album Snackbar blues from 2006 was on the Swedish album chart for six months, got a gold record, and the song "Tufft jobb" ended up on Svensktoppen. The album was produced by Chips Kiesbye, who would continue the collaboration with Hellberg on several upcoming albums.

BC & The Heartkeys is a distinctive live band with its roots in the blues, and who always get the pulse of their audience up. They have played for over 25 years on the Swedish club and festival scenes and are led by guitarist Björn Clern. Janne "Loffe" Carlsson, who is best known as an actor, sits on the drum chair. Before his acting career, he was one half of the legendary sixties band Hansson & Carlsson, and has, among other things, played with Jimi Hendrix.

The band also includes blues legend Bill Öhrström on vocals and harmonica. Bill Öhrström made his record debut 50 years ago with "Slim's Blues Gang" when hardly any Swedes knew what blues was, and has been an anchor on the Swedish music scene for decades in everything from jazz, progressive and blues to pop.

In '96 Bo Carlsson launched Mr Bo & The Voodooers. Lars Mellqvist remained steady by his side but was also a member of The Al Tehler Blues Band. Jim Ingvarsson went to play with The Instigators, Bluebirds and Paul & The Blue Delivery. And Lasse Olsson concentrated on his own projects.

The swedish band The Kokomo Kings has gained a reputation of playing an uncompromising, no-nonsence brew on a variety of low-down rocking roots-music, grounded deep in the blues. They have been described as being "more rock'n'roll than rock'n'roll" and having "energy level 11". They got together in the spring of 2012, aiming to play nothing but primitive, groovy Saturday-night music made for dancing.

In October 2013 they released the full length album "Artificial Natural" that received great rewievs. Many blues and rock'n'roll fans claimed that it was the first time for many years that they listened to a blues album from the first song to the last, and just loved every second of it. In the spring of 2017 the german label Rhythm Bomb Records released their second album "Too Good to Stay Away From".

The Ameripolitan Music Awards in Memphis nominated the Kokomo Kings to best rockabilly band 2018, and the band won the "Band of the Year 2018" and the "Entertainers of the Year 2021" award from The Blues Lounge Radio Show in the U.K. In 2022 they won both the "Entertainers of the Year" and "Artist of the Year" from The Blues Lounge Radio Awards.

In the summer of 2019 Rhythm Bomb Records released their third album "Fighting Fire with Gasoline", and in 2021 their fourth album "A Drive-By Love Affair". Since the start, they've performed at clubs and festivals in Sweden, Denmark, United Kingdom, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Norway, France, Austria, Switzerland, Estonia, The Czech Republic and Spain.

While most people associate the blues with the steamy bayous of Louisiana and the cotton fields of Mississippi there is also a thriving blues scene in Scandinavia. In the heart of this Nordic blues explosion is the Wentus Blues Band from the town of Kokkola in central Finland. And while the pine studded wilderness of their homeland is about as far as you can get from the juke joints of the Deep South, there’s no doubt about their musical credentials.

Established in 1986, the band has acquired a reputation as the hardest working blues band in Scandinavia and they have played over 2.000 gigs around Europe. Wentus Blues Band has toured in fourteen countries, released seven albums, done several TV-shows, headlined festivals and toured with many great bluesmen like Duke Robillard, Mick Taylor, Carey Bell and Louisiana Red, just to mention a few.

In 1993, Wentus Blues Band met Swedish blues and folk musician Pelle Lindström from Leksand, Sweden, at a gig in Sundsvall. Three years later they invited Pelle to Finland for week-long tour as a special guest with the band. Since then, Pelle has performed occasionally with the band and done tours in Finland, Sweden, Denmark and Germany. Due to the big success live, they went to the Church Garden Studios in Örnsköldsvik and recorded live some of the favourite rhythm 'n' blues songs from their repertoaire.

The swedish band The Kokomo Kings has gained a reputation of playing an uncompromising, no-nonsence brew on a variety of low-down rocking roots-music, grounded deep in the blues. They have been described as being "more rock'n'roll than rock'n'roll" and having "energy level 11". They got together in the spring of 2012, aiming to play nothing but primitive, groovy Saturday-night music made for dancing.

In October 2013 they released the full length album "Artificial Natural" that received great rewievs. Many blues and rock'n'roll fans claimed that it was the first time for many years that they listened to a blues album from the first song to the last, and just loved every second of it. In the spring of 2017 the german label Rhythm Bomb Records released their second album "Too Good to Stay Away From".

The Ameripolitan Music Awards in Memphis nominated the Kokomo Kings to best rockabilly band 2018, and the band won the "Band of the Year 2018" and the "Entertainers of the Year 2021" award from The Blues Lounge Radio Show in the U.K. In 2022 they won both the "Entertainers of the Year" and "Artist of the Year" from The Blues Lounge Radio Awards.

In the summer of 2019 Rhythm Bomb Records released their third album "Fighting Fire with Gasoline", and in 2021 their fourth album "A Drive-By Love Affair". Since the start, they've performed at clubs and festivals in Sweden, Denmark, United Kingdom, Germany, The Netherlands, Belgium, Finland, Norway, France, Austria, Switzerland, Estonia, The Czech Republic and Spain.

Jacob & The Jackals is a good blues band to get acquainted with. Both of their previous releases have been solid, swinging CDs, with Jakob Steinwall's characteristic guitar as a trademark. In the past, their records have weaved their way through the southerna states of USA, but “Breaking The Spell" takes the trip to New Orleans on occasion. (Not Dr. John, but rather swinging New Orleans R&B as it was played in the 50s.)

“Breaking The Spell” is an honest slice of blues that promises a full party and is delivered under a full moon. Steinwall is a hard-working guitarist who knows his music, and he is a good singer as well. This CD features great authority and it’s ready to rock.

Vocalist Tommy Moberg established Trickbag in 1994, setting the stage for a now 31-year run as one of the best “live” and studio outfits in Europe. Founded in Sweden, this Scandinavian group is equally adept at bringing the goods in a variety of styles including blues, old-time rock-n-roll, roots music, soul, timeless Americana, and swing. To say that the band creates a pandemonium wherever they play is a gross understatement. The same seems to also be the case with their recorded output.

Trickbag’s status as a powerhouse performing unit has resulted in them ascending to the summit of the Scandinavian blues landscape. One just gets the feeling that no matter what this band sets its mind upon, it is always strongly focused on the ultimate celebration to be experienced. Trickbag is also well-regarded for its sterling reputation as one of the premier backing bands around, having provided stellar support for, and recording music with, some of the biggest names in the blues-related fields including harmonica giant James Harman, guitar titan Junior Watson, guitar phenom Kid Ramos, soulful vocalist John Németh, Chicago piano colossus Barrelhouse Chuck, and superb guitarist Rusty Zinn, among many others.

Here indeed we find the band’s celebration of “30 years of excellence” as the “full-service blues band since 1994.” And undeniably, these 20 cuts (with two previously unreleased selections) wholly satisfy and firmly highlight why Trickbag’s brand of music is absolutely infectious.
