Christy Howard is originally from the small town of Clifton, Tennessee. Part Native American (Cherokee), and a child prodigy, Christy was singing and playing piano by age 6. Today, she is a Blues vocalist and songwriter based in Detroit, Michigan. her music is Chicago-Style Blues and Blues-Rock, but often with a distinct Outlaw Country or Southern-Rock flavor. Christy Howard is Johnny Cash reincarnated as a woman. Her voice is sultry and smooth, unlike the typical growling or raspy Blues singer. She sings with the soul of the Gospel, the harmonies of Bluegrass, the rowdiness of a Mississippi juke-joint, and the finesse of an Austin Blues Club. She sounds like June Carter Cash meets Bonnie Raitt. The instrumentation is that of a typical electrified Chicago-Style Blues band (two guitars, bass, drums, and keyboards), but occasionally upright bass, harmonica, dobro, banjo, lap steel, or fiddle are added. The music generally sounds like Buddy Guy meets Lynyrd Skynrd or Hank III. Christy's lyrics are usually inspired by Christy’s amazing life story, which reads like a tragic and bizarre Hollywood B-movie, and her long career in the seedy music business. Her lyrics tend to be packed full of vivid images of the human condition, and deal with cheating, mistreating, gambling, drinking and other debauchery familiar in the Blues.
