Admired since his boyhood by Buddy Guy, Carlos Santana and Eric Clapton, 22-year-old Quinn Sullivan has grown into a complete artist. Modern though his music is, Sullivan retains his strong foundation in the blues and rock that inspire him.

First known as a guitar prodigy, the Massachusetts-based singer, songwriter and guitarist emerges as a potential pop star with Wide Awake. Recorded in Los Angeles with producer and co-writer Oliver Leiber, the album’s deftly conceived songs have pop potential. Sullivan mines multiple genres, confidently spinning Beatles-esque melody and pop-flavored soul and rock.

“She’s So Irresistible” finds Sullivan doing Lenny Kravitz riff rock that has pop appeal. His rhythm and blues and British pop influences align in “How Many Tears,” a mid-tempo acoustic number containing the tunefulness of Paul McCartney, Squeeze and Peter Frampton. The song’s melodic guitar solo shows Sullivan’s knack for melody that’s played, as well as sung. Riffing guitar returns in “In a World Without You,” featuring the innovative Sullivan’s unexpected voice-and-guitar dialogues in an upbeat song in the mold of Michael McDonald-era Doobie Brothers.

Wide Awake’s pop-oriented material includes “She’s Gone (& She Ain’t Coming Back),” a torch song with another of Sullivan’s passionate vocal performances plus bell-like guitar tones. “We made love to Marvin singing ‘Girl, let’s get it on,’” he sings. “But, baby, I’ve heard it through the grapevine that we’re done.”
Sullivan puts layers of bright guitars in “Real Thing,” a throwback to ’80s arena and alternative rock. His penchant for referencing classics reappears in the buoyant love song “You’re the One:” “And I know where, exactly where we were when you stole my heart,” he sings. “The radio was playing ‘Dancing in the Dark.’ You said, ‘Trust me boy, your life is just about to start.’”

Sullivan’s latest album and his talent, experience and star endorsements suggest he’s on the cusp of a major career. ~John Wirt

Provogue is home to some of the worlds’ finest modern Blues artists and the Label are thrilled to announce their first Rockin’ The Blues 2018 Tour featuring the exceptional talents of Eric Gales, Quinn Sullivan, Gary Hoey and now added to the bill as a special end of show guest is Texan guitar slinger Lance Lopez guitar hero extravaganza. The tour will be calling through Germany, The Netherlands and the UK in March next year.

To celebrate this, Rockin’ The Blues, the album features 14 stellar performances from Eric Gales, Quinn Sullivan, Gary Hoey, Black Stone Cherry, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Beth Hart, Walter Trout, SIMO, Supersonic Blues Machine, Thomas Wynn & The Believers, Jonny Lang, Lance Lopez, Sonny Landreth and Ronnie Baker Brooks.
Guitar whirlwind Eric Gales’ Been So Long is taken from his critically acclaimed new album Middle of the Road which was released early 2017, Eric Gales is a man on form and on fire right now. His fourth album on Provogue/Mascot Label Group (15th album in total) sees him at his most expressive yet, his rebirth in fact; it is a deeply personal and reflective record that echoes where he is in his life right now and he allows himself to open up and really flourish. The who’s who of guitarists are declaring their admiration for him; Dave Navarro (Jane’s Addiction) exclaimed that “How Eric Gales isn’t the hugest name in rock guitar is a total mystery”, modern blues icon Joe Bonamassa said he is “One of the best, if not the best guitar player in the world”, whilst Mark Tremonti (Alter Bridge) said ‘this guy could be the best player on Earth” not to mention an admirer in the shape of Carlos Santana.

18 year old guitar prodigy and Buddy Guy protégé Quinn Sullivan has been a music professional for more than 75 percent of his life. He’s shared the stage with Buddy Guy aged eight, Eric Clapton, Los Lobos, The Roots, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi and Joe Bonamassa, and he opened for B.B. King, who later invited him to play his treasured “Lucille” guitar. He’s also appeared on national TV, with guest appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Oprah, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Conan with Jeff Bridges and twice on The Ellen DeGeneres show aged six and fourteen. Sullivan has packed some extraordinary experience into his decade-long career, Midnight Highway is taken from the his new album of the same name which was produced by multi GRAMMY® winner Tom Hambridge (Buddy Guy, Susan Tedeschi, Johnny Winter).

It’s just so right-with-the-universe that Gary Hoey’s 20th album, Dust & Bones is an exuberant fusion of blues and rock. After all, this accomplished and diverse guitarist has explored several styles in his career—hard rock, rock, surf, and prog, to name a few. The title track is a bonafide Hoey classic. In 1987, the Boston-born guitarist caught the ear of Ozzy Osbourne—no slouch at picking great guitar players—and almost ended up in his band (The gig ultimately went to Zakk Wylde.) Hoey scored a major-label record deal where his version of Focus’ “Hocus Pocus” brought him huge success.

There’s no doubt about it, the state of Texas is well known worldwide for its fiery blues guitar players, and Lance Lopez (also singer/guitarist for Supersonic Blues Machine) perfectly encapsulates that fire on Mr Lucky with some furious piece of fretboard mastery.

The album is awash with some of the finest blues artists in modern times; powerhouse Beth Hart is unstoppable on Love is A Lie, the Grammy-nominated singer/songwriter is riding a creative tidal wave, firing out acclaimed albums, hooking up with the biggest names in music and rocking the house each night with that celebrated burnt-honey voice. Arena rockers Black Stone Cherry returned to their roots in September releasing a blues cover record Black to Blues, here they explode in BSC style on Muddy Waters, Champagne & Reefer. Louisiana’s Kenny Wayne Shepherd prowls on Diamonds & Gold saying; Diamonds & Gold is a wink-wink kinda thing about how materialistic our society has become. It’s like, we should be living for bigger things than how much we can accumulate. If you look at the mainstream and what young people are led to believe they should work towards – it’s all just stuff. And stuff doesn’t have much substance. So that song is just to kinda inspire people to look for more in life.”

Nashville trio SIMO get funky on People Say, slide guitar maestro Sonny Landreth demonstrates his chops on this live version of Blues Attack taken from Recorded Live In Lafayette. Blues warrior Walter Trout shows why he is at the peak of his career with the formidable We’re All In This Together ft. Joe Bonamasssa. Jonny Lang returned with his first new album, Signs in 4 years in 2017 and Stronger Together is a soul crossover highlight. Chicago blues man Ronnie Baker Brooks, son of the late great Lonnie Brooks, delivers some fine blues, soul and funk with Times Have Changed ft. Al Kapone. Orlando’s favourite band Thomas Wynn & The Believers deliver an exquisite performance on Wade Waist Deep whilst Supersonic Blues Machine go from strength to strength and reach for the sky on the festival favourite, the hypnotic L.O.V.E.

Quinn Sullivan has been a music professional for more than 75 percent of his life. He’s shared the stage with Buddy Guy, Eric Clapton, Los Lobos, The Roots, Derek Trucks & Susan Tedeschi and Joe Bonamassa, and he opened for B.B. King, who later invited him to play his treasured “Lucille” guitar. He has performed on concert and festival dates throughout the United States – including at storied venues like Hollywood Bowl, RFK Stadium and Madison Square Garden – traveled overseas – performing at both the Montreux Jazz Festival and India’s Mahindra Blues Festival – and played several editions of the Experience Hendrix Tour, backed by Jimi’s original bassist Billy Cox. He’s also appeared on national TV, with guest appearances on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Oprah, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, Conan and twice on The Ellen DeGeneres show.

Yes, Sullivan has packed some extraordinary experience into his decade-long career, and that’s even more remarkable when you consider that he’s only 17. His third studio album, Midnight Highway, was produced by multi GRAMMY® winner Tom Hambridge – who also does double duty as Quinn’s studio and road drummer – and will be released on January 27th in North America, and on March 24th in the rest of the world. The album is yet another milestone in Quinn’s extraordinary journey, which began with him jamming with the kids music combo Toe Jam Puppet Band at age three, appearing on Ellen when he was six, and being taken under the wing of blues legend Buddy Guy at age eight, whose protégé he remains to this day.

Quinn’s age and enduring relationship with Buddy Guy is certainly notable, but so too is his total dedication to his craft. “I wanted to see how far we could get musically on this album. I had a lot more creative input on this one and was more active in writing, so it’s something of a mixture. I didn’t want to completely break away from the blues – that’ll always be my home ground – but I just wanted to stretch out. Mastering the vocals was important too and was the result of a lot of playing and touring, and studying with a vocal coach. I’ll admit I hit an awkward stage with my voice when it was changing a few years ago, but I like the way things have worked out so far.”

Quinn Sullivan, guitar boy wonder, has been on tour most recently with guitar legend Buddy Guy, and even appeared on Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Guitar Festival. Needless to say, Eric Clapton has spoken. Buddy and Eric must have been drawn to this kid’s visceral, raw talent rooted so deeply in the blues, taking him on an experience in which many much older would give and arm and a leg to partake. With the guiding hand of Grammy winning producer Tom Hambridge, Getting There is certainly an album wise beyond its years, granting glimpse on a bright outlook for the industry.

Quinn’s fender acts as a beacon of his expression, as one bluesy riff flows from the last. “Catch a Groove,” a hit on the album, features distorted echo and flanger effects, boasting a strong build up to a high-octane chorus, driven by heavy bass and a wah wah pedal. These soon to be signature styles give Quinn a certain gusto and thus much deserved notoriety. “Getting There,” the album’s title track, delivers a soulful and fitting ode to a young career on the rise. Quinn then strips it down a bit on some powerfully soulful ballads on “World in Change” and “I Know I Know.” “Mr. Gloom” features a funky organ that carries the groove throughout. “Rock Hard” keeps that organ rolling, for a toe-tapping sing-along reminiscent of an early Beatles track.

Getting There is a wide-eyed glimpse into the mind of a soulful, sophisticated, not yet jaded young man, whose short time on this earth, with guiding influence through the grapevine of blues greats, has proven ample basis to crank out some stellar tunes. Quinn’s vocals, in step with his electrifying ability on the axe, offer the complete package for this rising star. Catch him on the way up.
