Singer, harmonica player and songwriter San Pedro Slim (a.k.a David Kiefer), hails from the Los Angeles port town of San Pedro, California. His first professional gig took place at the seedy San Pedro tavern Between Rounds on Pacific Avenue in early 1991. It was from that moment on that playing blues became a driving force in his life.
Slim would go see William Clarke, Johnny Dyer with Rick Holmstrom, James Harman, Smokey Wilson and Rod Piazza at local clubs where he would soak up live lessons nightly. Slim recalls the time fondly. “It was electric, there was a lot of blues happening. There were so many great musicians playing out at that time, you’d be out every night.”
In November 1997 San Pedro Slim’s debut CD “Another Night On The Town” was released on the Dutch label, Tramp Records. The CD featured 12 original songs by Slim and featured the guitars of Rick Holmstrom and Henry Carvajal along with stellar backing by some of Los Angeles finest blues musicians.
