Frank Robinson was born in the red clay country of Crockett on June 24, 1932. Frank was a nephew of Lightnin' Hopkins and his wife Katie Mae. As a boy, he carried Lightnin's and Frankie Lee's guitars to their respective performances. The two Texas Blues giants patiently taught young Frank their tricks and he began seconding them at country suppers, fairs and piney woods juke joints. Mr. Robinson's style reflects his mentors, along with the music of other Texas Blues innovators such as Little Son Jackson and Smokey Hogg. One of Frank Robinson's most vivid memories is of relatives playing Blind Lemon Jefferson records until they wore out.

"Guitar" Curtis Colter was also born in Crockett, Texas on August 12, 1940. He grew up with the blues. His father, Charlie Colter and his uncle Raymond Colter were both accomplished blues guitarists. Raymond Colter, is now in his 80's and resides in Houston, Texas. He spent many years working with Lightnin' Hopkins in Houston (Fourth Ward). He now performs in his local church in Houston Sunnyside District. However, Guitar Curtis' main mentor and musical associate has been Frank Robinson. They regularly performed at local functions during the late 50's and early 60's.
