Following the success of his critically acclaimed album Remembering Now - which soared into the Top 10 and earned widespread praise - Van Morrison is back with a bold new release. His upcoming album, Somebody Tried To Sell Me A Bridge, marks a confident return to the sounds and traditions that shaped much of his musical identity, paying homage to the legends who defined the blues genre with fresh interpretations of classics made famous by B.B. King, Buddy Guy, Leadbelly and more. Somebody Tried To Sell Me A Bridge delivers a spirited, unfiltered blues experience from an artist whose connection to the genre runs deep. The album blends Morrison’s trademark grit and lyricism with the unmistakable emotional weight of classic blues, resulting in a collection that feels both timeless and fiercely alive.

A standout feature of the album is its extraordinary roster of collaborators. Morrison is joined by some of the most respected figures in modern blues, including Taj Mahal, Buddy Guy, Elvin Bishop, and long-time musical collaborator John Allair, along with other long-standing collaborators, David Hayes, Bobby Ruggerio, “Friends Along The Way” associate Mitch Woods, Anthony Paule, leader of the Anthony Paule Soul Orchestra and the renowned Larry Vann on drums. Their combined contributions bring depth, character and authenticity to the record, each adding their own distinctive twist to Morrison’s vision. Recorded at Studio D in Sausalito, California, and engineered by long term associate Jim Stern with Ben McAuley.

16. Dealer (Live Acoustic) ( 5:49)

After two studio albums in as many years, the beautiful Burried Alive is now a recording of the many tours available, a confirmation for some and an excellent way for others to get to know the young guitarist from Ireland. When you can go on the road with an album like Burried In The Hail in your back pocket, which would be rated Album of the Year at the UK Blues Awards, it is not surprising that there was a great demand among his fans for a new live album. The album contains no less than sixteen songs, a reflection of the various styles and influences that have shaped Dom, with the last eight being performed acoustically. Fans of the electric set will be more than satisfied with a song like Lefty 2 Guns in terms of guitar violence on a slow blues, while on Government there is a lot of attention for the beautifully subdued arrangement. Where 12 Gauge picks up the pace a bit, we end up more on the jamming side of the blues with veteran Dixie Black Hand. The dark tones that many people from the north of Belfast grow up with are sublimely extracted from the soul by Dom Martin and entrusted to the listener. During the acoustic numbers, the extent to which Dom masters his instrument is perhaps even more prominent, the way in which Here Comes The River is connected to 12 Gauge, which we heard earlier electrically, is particularly beautiful. The slightly more than ten-minute Hell For You, Mercy is one of the absolute highlights. The sense of timing and phrasing on his guitar seems almost self-evident, which normally goes hand in hand with the more experienced hands in the business. It is an experience that you would wish on the audience when it comes to etiquette, because the buzz from the hall sometimes detracts from the beauty of the recordings. In any case, it can't audibly bother the best man because Dom Martin once again shows why he has received one award and hymn of praise, Buried Alive is a beautiful overview of his abilities. An album that will only make his star travel higher.

The BBC Collection’ is an all-encompassing collection of the many recorded performances of Rory Gallagher at the BBC.

These releases celebrate the importance of the artist Rory Gallagher, who was possibly the most recorded musician of the 1970s by the BBC.

“(‘Tore Down’) That was the first song I ever heard played…It’s a BBC recording of Rory Gallagher playing at the Paris Theatre in London in July 1972. And I was in the audience, aged 15, and those opening bars were enough to make me realise that this was something I wanted to do again and again… ‘Tore Down’ was my introduction to live, loud, amplified blues and when Gallagher had finished, my 15-year-old self could not contain his excitement. He ran down to the front to shake Rory’s hand…When the BBC did eventually broadcast the concert, I taped it by leaning the microphone from my clunky cassette recorder against the speaker of our old transistor radio and I listened to that tape over and over again” ~Nick Hornby

Absorbing life’s trials and tribulations, the ecstasy and the glory days, giving voice to the accompanying feelings. Seldom was this credibility more present in a contemporary bluesman than in Irishman Dermot Byrne”. In 2002 Dermot released his second album “Lonesome to the Bone”, followed in 2004 with “Live at the Mermaid Theatre”.

"New Arrangements And Duets" is just a small portion of the vast unreleased material that Van Morrison plans to release in the near future, ensuring it doesn't simply gather dust in the archives. The big band tracks on the album were recorded in 2014, with Paul Moran and Chris White individually selecting the songs they wanted to arrange for a big band. The duets, recorded between 2018 and 2019, feature an impressive lineup of vocalists including Kurt Elling, Curtis Stigers, Joss Stone, and Willie Nelson. The duets with Willie Nelson – "What’s Wrong With This Picture" and "Steal My Heart Away" also highlight the guitar skills of Lukas Nelson, Willie's son.

The first single "Choppin' Wood" showcases Van Morrison’s distinctive vocal style leading a dynamic big band performance. This song pays homage to his late father, with references to Belfast, the Harland & Wolff shipyard, and his father’s love for jazz legends like Sidney Bechet, Louis Armstrong, and Jelly Roll Morton. The original version of the song appeared on Van Morrison’s 2002 album "Down The Road". /James Daykin, Entertainment Focus

Irish singer/songwriter Foy Vance spent the past few years laying low, taking a break from touring for the first time in 20 years. Born out of the quiet is his transformative new album, ‘Signs of Life.’ Writing “Sapling” opened Vance’s eyes, the track showing him a way forward. Finding time to look internally into himself for the first time in a long time, “Sapling” brought the artist clarity, forging an open pathway for his next record. Released as one of the first singles off the album, “Sapling” is a slow yet stunning, almost cathartic track with a quiet piano and pulsing beat to guide its themes of birth, rebirth, and renewal along, but it’s Vance’s voice that provides the song its bloodline. The song’s lyrics, chords, and ideas came to Vance during a moment when he realized it was time to fight – and immediately end – all his addictions. Once he discovered it, Signs of Life was born.

“Rock ’n’ roll is about simplicity, sincerity and expressive power and there’s no way you can get away from that,” Van Morrison says about his new album of old classics. “That’s why it’s good and that’s why it’s lasted. It’s spirit music.”

Accentuate The Positive is a welcome recording from Morrison for a number of reasons. Firstly, his recent albums have, if anything, tended to accentuate the negative, with their occasional diversions into the world of conspiracy theory. Musically, too, they’ve avoided the long, passionate workouts of his best records, leaning heavily on his R&B roots (although those are pretty good roots to lean on). For some it’s a long way from the poetry and mysticism of Morrison’s best work (even if it is still away with the fairies). Still, things in Morrison’s world have always had a tendency to slouch towards Bethlehem in one form or another.

Either way, it’s something of a relief that Accentuate The Positive is, purely and simply, a covers album, a collection of songs taken mostly from the middle of the 20th century, arranged in the style of whichever R&B, country or rock’n’roll version means the most to him, and performed with the majestic casualness that only Van Morrison can bring to a song. It’s to his credit – and entirely unsurprising as well – that at no point does Morrison do what most artists do with a record comprised entirely of cover versions, namely to bugger about with them until they are bloated and horrible. Instead he sticks closely to his favourite arrangements, but, being one of the great geniuses of popular music, also manages to make these hairy old oldies his own.

There’s a lot of material here, enough to fill a small jukebox, from a gorgeous take on You Are My Sunshine to a fantastic, knee-trembling Shakin’ All Over, and it all works. Morrison is like a guest on a musical chat show, turning these songs into musical anecdotes, perfectly illustrating the music that made him and that inspired him. And the sense of fun which only rarely comes over in his work – songs like The Days Before Rock’n’Roll and Cleaning Windows – is still here in covers of Big Joe Turner’s Flip, Flop And Fly and, perhaps most surprisingly, Chuck Berry’s Bye Bye Johnny. Throughout, Morrison makes old songs sound new and brings the enthusiasm of a teenager to an old man’s record. /David Quantick, Louder

Rory Gallagher ‘All Around Man – Live In London’ is a 23-track live album of unreleased material taken from a previously undocumented period of one of the greatest guitarists of all time.

To be released on July as double-CD and triple-LP sets, this exhilarating album is pulled from two nights at the Town & Country Club (now the The O2 Forum) in London in December 1990.

‘All Around Man – Live In London’ was recorded from the shows that supported Gallagher’s eleventh, and sadly, last studio album ‘Fresh Evidence’ that was released in May 1990. This album features captivating live versions of tracks from that album as well as songs from the 1987 ‘Defender’ album plus other career favourites.

This new album has been mixed from the recently found multi tracks and mastered at Abbey Road Studios, and the album’s cover is a painting by Irish graffiti artist Vincent Zara who has stencilled Rory’s image across his home country.

Grainne Duffy - Dirt Woman Blues

Size: 82.3 MB
Time: 35:08
File: MP3 @ 320K/s
Released: 2023
Styles: Blues Rock
Art: Full

01. Well Well Well (4:07)
02. Dirt Woman Blues (3:49)
03. What's It Going To Be? (3:12)
04. Running Back To You (3:22)
05. Rise Above (3:38)
06. Sweet Liberation (4:55)
07. Hold On To You (4:15)
08. Yes I Am (4:16)
09. Killycrum (3:31)

For her fifth studio album, Dirt Woman Blues, Irish roots phenom singer, songwriter, and guitarist Gráinne Duffy ventured far from the Emerald Isle to sunny Southern California to find a bigger, bolder sound. The three-time Blues Matters Writers’ Poll winner, partnered with American blues-rock guitarist Marc Ford, best known as a former member of The Black Crowes, creating a tandem guitar sound with her husband Paul Sherry, also in her band. They enlisted Gary Clark Jr.’s Austin, TX rhythm section; drummer/percussionist JJ Johnson and bass/keyboard player Elijah Ford (Marc’s son) along with Grammy-winning producer Chris Goldsmith, Jimmy Hoyson, Sam Goldsmith, John Ginty and Peter Levin. The sessions yielded a collection of nine original tracks, composed by Duffy and Sherry, centering around Duffy’s haunting alto and a mash up of songwriting styles from Celtic storytelling to Delta Blues poetry and Laurel Canyon 70’s Rock.

Guitar driven rocker, “Well Well Well,” opens as a celebration of self-discovery and empowerment. The title track, “Dirt Woman Blues,” is a mournful yet surprising composition as it uses the classic elements of heavy blues in a fresh and unconventional way. The breezy “What’s It Going To Be?” speaks of the unbridled joy that love can produce. Duffy keeps the romance going on “Running Back To You,” a swinging girl group styled R&B number with modern muscle. JJ Johnson drives the tribal beat for the Celtic tone poem “Rise Above,” while Duffy’s fiery vocals channel her namesake Gráinne, the daughter of Cormac Mac Airt in the Fenian Cycle of Irish mythology.

Ford delivers one of those engaging guitar riffs from southern harmony as the base for the grooving “Sweet Liberation,” a great singalong that starts out smooth and builds to blazing boogie jam. The easy sway of “Hold On To You” has a Beatles-meets-Bonnie-Raitt feel with big piano chords, Ringo styled drumming and soulful vocals. American Blue Scene named Duffy as the successor to Rory Gallagher, demonstrated in the rousing and defiant track “Yes I Am,” which finds her boldly carrying the torch of the Irish blues legend’s legacy. A smooth, strumming acoustic guitar leads the album closer “Killycrum,” written in tribute to her home in County Monaghan and feelings inspired by its green pastures and drumlin-dotted landscape, which also influenced the poems of Patrick Kavanagh.

On this ground-breaking release Gráinne Duffy supplies a unique mix of Irish mysticism, soulful vocals, an amazing groove, an extraordinary band, and beautifully crafted lyrics. ~Rick J Bowen

After two albums where Van Morrison spent a great deal of time griping about the modern world, it's hard not to interpret the title of Moving On Skiffle as "moving on from the political unpleasantness of the last few years to skiffle, the music of my childhood." Morrison has returned to skiffle before, cutting a dynamite live album with Chris Barber and Lonnie Donegan at the tail-end of the 2000s, but Moving On Skiffle is a different beast. Where The Skiffle Sessions: Live in Belfast 1998 benefitted from its live setting, Moving On Skiffle is clearly a studio album, a record so relaxed and unhurried it takes over 90 minutes to reach its conclusion.

That's not to say it doesn't have its share of sprightly tempos: the band often kick up dust to a train-track rhythm, yet they never seem on the verge of descending into a frenzied rave-up or hoedown. The music's easy touch allows Morrison to be a bit playful, juxtaposing familiar melodies and lyrics in a surprising fashion; for instance, "Worried Man Blues" has him riffing upon words from "Mystery Train." This same attitude leads Morrison to reworking "Mama Don't Allow" into "Gov Don't Allow," giving him a place to grouse about how the government is shutting down free speech and skiffle. It's the one time on Moving On Skiffle where Van Morrison allows his inner curmudgeon to take the reins; otherwise, Moving On Skiffle is light and lively, an easy record to enjoy. /Stephen Thomas Erlewine, AllMusic

Rory Gallagher - Jinx

09. Ride On Red, Ride On (4:36)
10. Lonely Mile (Bonus) (4:39)
11. Loose Talk (4:08)

Rory Gallagher sounds inspired throughout JInx, gamely leading new drummer Brendan O'Neill and keyboardist Bob Andrews through the blues-rock paces, even though the guitarist's personal fortunes were on a downslide from which they would never recover. "Big Guns" and "Bourbon," the album's opening selections find Rory in full fiery form, tossing out muscular guitar lines and fiery solos with descriptive lyrics catering to his infatuation with American gangsters. The album also features two of his best, and least known, songs in the spooky, paranoid title track, complete with simmering sax section, boiling tom-tom drums as well as his own stealthy harmonica, and "Easy Come Easy Go," a beautiful, bluesy ballad where Rory double tracks his acoustic and electric guitars. Gallagher's tough vocals take on a new emotional depth not previously heard, and are particularly poignant throughout. Diving into the blues, Lightnin' Slims' "Nothin' but the Devil," one of the two songs added for this reissue, is an acoustic solo showpiece revealing Gallagher's delta roots and substantial slide abilities. Louisiana Red's "Ride On Red, Ride On" is a crackling double-time burner with Rory charging through with an appropriately whisky-soaked approach and a shimmering electric slide solo. Another extra track, "Lonely Mile," a finished tune previously omitted due to the time restrictions of vinyl, is a worthy addition to Gallagher's mid-tempo grinding rocker catalog. Although not his best album, Jinx is a tough and confident release, and it's 2000 reappearance after being difficult to find for almost 20 years, especially in this pristine edition, is reason to rejoice for Rory Gallagher fans. ~Hal Horowitz

With his band of fellow Irishmen Marty McCloskey (drums) and Dave Marks (bass) Simon delivers his own distinctive songs (“Hugely accomplished” MOJO) along with crowd-pleasers from the likes of Hendrix and Free.
His guitar skills (“Among the best blues-rock players anywhere in the world” GUITARIST) have made him a go-to guitarist on the British Blues-rock scene, admired among professionals, followed by enthusiasts, and endorsed by some of the biggest brands on the guitar scene. He is a long time endorsee of PRS Guitars and a personal pick of Paul Reed Smith.
Former Young Guitarist of The Year and now fully-fledged blues-rock virtuoso, Irishman McBride Is at the start of what many industry pundits are predicting will be a glittering career. He has toured with Joe Satriani and opened in the UK and Ireland for Jeff Beck, Joe Bonamassa, and US slide maestro and Grammy nominee Derek Trucks.
A few months after his sixteenth birthday Simon was recruited by the Belfast-based pioneering metal band Sweet Savage, who reformed in 1994 without their founding guitarist, Vivian Campbell (Dio, Def Leppard), whom Simon replaced. Simon toured with the band and recorded two albums, Killing Time 1996 and Rune 1998.

Then, after six years touring with fellow Irishman Andrew Strong, who made his name in the 1991 cult film The Commitments, Simon came off the road to pursue the idea of a solo career.

William Rory Gallagher (2 March 1948 – 14 June 1995) was an Irish blues and rock guitarist, singer, songwriter, and producer. 06. The King Of Zydeco (Remastered 2017) (3:43)

Since Rory Gallagher’s death, aged 47 on June 14 1995, his true stature has become ever more clear. This soft spoken Irishman, characterised by his flowing locks and trademark working man stage clothes, was far from ordinary. Gallagher was a self taught virtuoso who forged a musical revolution in his native land, shunned the traps of fame and stardom yet became a universally acclaimed international folk hero.

Rory’s rock solid devotion to his calling never wavered and the respect of his musical peers was universal. Eric Clapton credited Gallagher with “getting me back into the blues”, The Rolling Stones tried to get him to replace Mick Taylor.

Rory’s influence spread through the generations – from Slash to Johnny Marr, from U2’s The Edge to Queen’s Brian May, and onto The Manics’ James Dean Bradfield – any aspiring player who encountered him was bound to be energised or transformed.

Of all the guitar greats who emerged in the post war era Rory Gallagher was predestined to become a Celtic Warrior King. He shared his name with Ireland’s last native monarch, was born (to rock) at Rock Hospital in Ballyshannon, Donegal (March 2nd 1948) while his father was employed constructing a hydro electric power plant on the nearby Erne river.

In due course, whether using electric firepower or acoustic mastery, the unassuming Gallagher would be transformed into a musical giant, yet he always maintained the most human feeling, eschewing extraneous FX and gizmos in favour of his own raw, primitive, string-bending genius. Acknowledged as ‘the people’s guitarist’ Rory would amass 20 million sales but the emotive connection he made with audiences across the globe was greater than statistics could show. Gallagher’s fire in the fingertips feel was the thrilling result of hard work and dexterity, tireless energy and dynamic drive.
