Belgian blues pride Guy Verlinde is back with a new blues album. We proudly present Promised Land Blues, the acoustic blues album he recorded with Tom Eylenbosch. Over the years, they have developed a unique sound with their narrative blues songs, which resonates deeply with blues audiences in Belgium and beyond. In 2024, they were awarded the Belgian Blues Award for Best Duo.
Every song on this album reflects their shared passion for the blues. In Guy’s guitar and vocals you can hear the spirit of the blues greats, while he also introduces fresh, contemporary elements. Tom’s piano and banjo form the perfect counterpoint with which he musically colors each song.
You’ll hear a mix of new socially critical songs, such as “Tears Over Gaza” and “World Goin’ Wrong”, alongside traditional blues gems such as “You Gotta Move” and “A Worried Man Blues”. Some songs, such as “Heaven Inside My Head”, “Do That Boogie”, “Reckonin’ Blues”, “Gotta Let Go”, “I’ve Got You” and “Pursuit of Happiness”, became crowd favourites during the concerts. Although they were released earlier, they were given a new acoustic arrangement on this album.
In true blues tradition, reworking songs is a hallmark of the genre, allowing artists to breathe new life into their music over time. No album would be complete without a Tiny Legs Tim song, and “Hard to Admit” is a heartfelt tribute to their dear friend, who passed away some time ago. Promised Land Blues is an acoustic blues album that is deeply rooted in tradition, but not afraid to explore new horizons. /Blues Magazine
