Musician. Born James Norman Scott, he was an old school musician songwriter, known for combining the best of soul, R&B, along with country, blues and Rock n' Roll. In the 1950s, he began his career as a touring musician throughout the Midwest and southern regions of the United States before settling in New York. In New York, he performed, wrote music for Broadway and released the hit single, "I Don't Love You No More" (1962), which reached number 21 on the Billboard pop charts. During the 1960s, he gained much acclaim for his song writing and session work. In 1964, he wrote the additional lyrics to the song "Time Is on My Side", which became a hit for The Rolling Stones. By 1966, Norman recorded several tracks with Jimi Hendrix in sessions at Abtone Studio New York, to include "You're Only Hurting Yourself", "Little Groovemaker" and "On You Girlie It Looks so Good". He also composed a number of songs performed by musicians Johnny Nash, Peter Tosh, Byron Lee and Bob Marley. In 1969, he became involved with doo-wop band The Coasters, first as a producer and then as a member, touring with them until forced to retire by ill-health in 1998. That same year, he released his solo his album "Tobacco Road" (1998). Among his other collective works are the singles "Love is Wonderful" (1963), "Can You Blame Me" (1966), albums "Harlem River Drive" (1971), Marley compilation album "Soul Almighty" (1974), "Little Pieces" (2004) and "The Way I See It" (2011). His last public appearance was at the Loft Party for the Jazz Foundation of America, New York, where he performed his song "Time is On My Side" on October 29, 2011. ~By John "J-Cat" Griffith
