b. 10 September 1955, Willenhall, Staffordshire, England. Wilson began playing guitar at the age of 15 and by 1974 was performing professionally. He studied at Humberside College for a degree in Food Science and Microbiology, later teaching food hygiene/microbiology. He continued to play guitar and, influenced by contemporary electric blues players, he formed his own blues-based band, the Mighty Houserockers in 1981. Wilson developed a good local following in the Midlands region and over subsequent years played at numerous UK and European blues festivals, including Colne, Luxembourg, Cork, Geithoorn and Oudenaarde. He has performed extensively on the blues circuits in the UK, Belgium and the Netherlands. A strikingly effective slide guitarist, Wilson’s live performances are exciting affairs. Among his influences are George Thorogood and Son Seals, heard live, and, heard on records, Jimi Hendrix, Hound Dog Taylor, Elmore James, B.B. King, Albert King and Buddy Guy.

Wilson’s sidemen over the years have included Chris Lomas (bass), Dave Sutherland (bass, percussion, vocals), Fred Skidmore (keyboards), and Tony Baylis, Phil Guest and Micky Barker (drums), some of whom have been around since the early days. In the early 00s, Wilson was composing a large part of his current repertoire. Although rooted in traditional blues, much of his latter-day composing displays manifold musical influences that have shaped his career and his off-stage life; since 1997 he has lived in the far west of Eire. Among Wilson’s compositions are ‘Guitar Man’, ‘Fuelled Up’, ‘She’s My Baby’, ‘I’m A Fool’, ‘Blue Light’ and ‘Don’t Leave Me’. /Biography by AllMusic

Les Wilson & The Mighty Houserockers - Blue Highway

Year: 2009
Bitrate: MP3@320K/s
Time: 56:59

Scans: Front

1. Ready, Willing And Able (3:31)

3. The Sun Is Shining (4:12)
4. Heard It Through The Grapevine (5:25)
5. Tulsa Time (3:15)

7. I Can See Clearly (5:26)

11. Since I Met You Baby (4:06)
12. Ain't Got No Money (4:19)
13. What'd I Say (2:59)

Les Wilson is without doubt one of the UK's best blues guitarists, and a fine singer too. Having established the Houserockers in 1981, the band is well known in the UK and Europe, and has enjoyed 3 headline spots at the British Blues Festival at Colne. The Houserockers perform frequently in Holland and Belgium - for example headlining the Drijf-In blues festival - Giethoorn in Holland August 2005 & the Luxembourg Jazz & Blues festival 2004 and the t'Eiland Blues Festival at Oudenaarde/Belgium July 2006. 2007 saw the UK Banbury Blues festival in March. In 2008 there were 4 visits to Belgium/Holland with a blues festival at Zelzate, Belgium in August and the Koekelare Lettens Blues festival for October in Belgium.

Les is one of the great slide guitarists in the high-energy style of George Thorogood/Hound Dog Taylor/Elmore James/Sonny Landreth - without the slide it's Buddy Guy/Son Seals/B.B. King/Albert King/The Fabulous Thunderbirds and much more. Les also prides himself on excellent and wide-ranging choice of material - this is definitely not your average blues band.

Personnel:
Les Wilson - guitar, vocals
Micky Barker - drums
Chris Lomas - bass
Fred Skidmore - keyboard
